so, i disappeared for a while - had to take a break for personal reasons, but i’m back! it seems i’ve missed a lot, but i’ll give a little overview of everything as it stands now surrounding groups and the mga4 finals.

the finals of the mgas was last night and let me tell you all i’m surprised, disappointed, and a little pissed off. but, before i get into that i’ll just say i’m happy for kim doyeon - she was strong throughout the whole show - i liked her and i’m glad she ranked as high as she did. what i’m not happy about was who won. let me tell you this now, in no way do i have anything against kim junmyeon, apart from the fact he seems too cocky, but good god i have no idea why he won.

his singing is alright, his stage presence, i’ll admit, is striking, but you need more than some average vocals and good stage presence to be an idol. his dancing; mediocre, voice: alright, looks: alright, stage presence: great. to me, that doesn’t make a winner, that makes a solid ranker. i’d have given him seventh place. he’s got potential, sure, but he isn’t at the level i’d expect of a winner. 

i also want to point out that that kid, lee minhyung, had bigger balls than pretty much all the other contestants, and i’m baffled as to why he ranked twentieth. he had the skills, he had the flare, he was exciting, and i’m starting to think mnet had something against younger contestants. 

anyway, enough of that, i’m annoyed enough as it is. 

now, luxe debuted finally, and i enjoyed their album immensely - i can’t give an in depth review at this moment in time, as i’d need to look into them more, but for now all i’ll say is i’m proud of those girls, and how hard they’re working. their debut went well and they’ve shown great performances in their promotions this month. 

now, for eclipse - we’ve been introduced to taeyeon, anna, minji and blue. again, as i’m not a big girl group enthusiast, i don’t have a lot to say on them yet, though i do love anna; she looks adorable. other than that, i’m looking forward to see what they’ve got to offer. they seem to have a summery vibe, which will be nice i’m assuming they’ll be debuting in autumn, it’ll bring back that last leg of summer for those who miss the sun!

finally, convex! we’ve met all the boys, and episode one of project convex aired last week, so we’re well on the way to debut, i should think. i’m still somewhat undecided on a bias, it keeps changing! right now i’m really enjoying taeyong and royal (no surprise there), but romeo sure is about to rip off my entire scalp. 

hi again beibeis! let’s get this review of the rappers of CONVEX on a roll quickly as i’m headed out soon! these boys were particularly eye catching, and that’s saying something coming from someone who usually doesn’t pay all that much attention to rappers.

so, without futher ado, here are the convex rappers!

bone structure 👌🏻

as good as his rapping is he didn’t stand out to me all that much - not to any fault of his own, though, he’s just not my type. he seemed a little shaken at the very start of the unit performance, but i think that’s to be expected from a predebut groups first show. he did really well though and showed a lot of charisma towards the middle and end of the performance. sadly, my attention is rarely caught by rappers, but maybe he’ll win me over later, we’ll just have to wait and see.

mr muscle aka yu barom

i’ve definitely seen this guy before - who could forget the man who turned down a contract after winning the mgas in season 2?! he’s still as handsome as he was back then, and i was pleasantly surprised when he appeared, and not just because of his muscular body which was surely enough to earn him a few fans. not only does he have a great body but he’s good at what he does too. i’m not expert when ti comes to rapping but he surely sounded good to me. good to see you again, mr muscle, i hope i’ll be seeing a whole lot more of you!

if any of the rappers caught my eye it was this guy. he’s got some very distinct features, and i’m more than sure he managed to accumulate a significant amount of fans already, maybe even more than mr muscle, despite the distinct difference in total body mass - in comparison to yu barom, this guys pretty slender (though could for sure be hiding a chiselled figure for all we know). his rapping, to my non-rapper ears, sounded good; he had nice flow, and has a very suitable voice that’s nice to listen to.

so, this pretty boy seems like the type to come off as scary at first glance, from his icey gaze, but his smile can really brighten up and deflect that conclusion - he seems pretty soft if you ask me! something about his smile and seemingly boundless energy really seemed to carry the whole performance. i’d chance it to say he might be the youngest of the rappers - that or he’s just super energetic and charismatic. his voice is really distinct from the other rappers, and he manages to stand out well with his unique voice, so i’d say, for one, i’m really looking forward to seeing more of a rapper! 

SO THAT’S IT FOR THE RAPPERS! i’m obviously not as invested in rappers as i am singers and dancers, so sorry if this is a rather wishy washy post, i don’t want to give criticism if i don’t know what i’m talking about, but i dd think they all sounded very good, and they do a good job as rap line for the group.

boys, boys and more boys! anyone who knows me knows i’m a big fan of boy groups (mostly), so, when i heard of a showcase on the 30th of june for a new sphere boy group, called CONVEX, consisting of no less than 13 boys, well, it’s safe to say my ass was at that performance hall even before the doors opened. i couldn’t keep myself away! i simply had to see the hot new talent one of my favourite companies was releasing into the world, and let me tell you, it was worth every minute spent on the packed subway. i enjoyed myself so much during the afternoon show that i went right back for the evening one, eager to see those beautiful boys a second time.

so, without further ado, i’m going to give you my opinions on these boys and who i think they are - some i know, some i have yet to learn even the names of. 

the group, as some may already have heard, is split into three sub-units, the vocal unit, the performance unit, and the rap unit (which makes recognising each member so much easier - thank you again, baek jiyoung, for you’re truly outstanding intellect ).

LET’S START WITH THE VOCAL UNIT! 

hong jonghyun

here’s a face i’ve seen before - at first i couldn’t put my finger on where from, but then it clicked. i saw a picture back in 2015 of this man kissing one park ‘piper’ eunji, a kt trainee at the time (who i followed casually for a while). not to bring up old, forgotten things, though. since then i’m sure i saw him in a sphere concert before. needless to say this guy’s been floating around for years now, and boy am i glad he’s finally surfaced. the talent this man has is incredible. not to mention he’s painfully attractive. in short, i’m excited to see more of him. the showcase wasn’t nearly enough to sate my hunger. 

lips (kim jinwook??)

this is one i’m unsure on, but lord does it feel like i’ve seen him before, and he could be kim jinwook who was on mga season 3, but i’m not 100% sure. nevertheless, he’s got a beautiful voice. the showcase was enough to prove to me that this boy has what it takes to go far with that voice of his. might not be exactly ‘my type’, but he’s surely talented, and his lips are somethin’ else!

what the heck do i even say about this god-given being?! when he sang my actual insides did about twenty-thousands flips, in the best way. he has such a soulful voice i want to hear just him sing a million ballads. he’s definitely making me feel things! could’ve sworn i saw him somewhere before too, but definitely not at vividly as the last two boys. even so, this guy is gonna go far, i feel it in my soul. he had great stage presence, and a smile that could light up the room. i truly love this guy.

mr eyesmile aka lee jinki

i’ve definitely seen this wonderful man before, and that was in mga season 3 as well; he was a finalist in fact. i knew him the moment i saw him, from the beautiful eyesmile no one could forget. he has this really sweet aura, and his voice, a very pure, clear yet delightful sound really works for his ‘nice guy’ appearance. he seems to know how to hold himself well on stage as well, clearly from being in front of audiences and cameras and judges before. overall, i’m really looking forward to seeing more of him.

anime baby boy

THIS BOY! never before have i seen such a beautiful boy (after my bf of course) who looked like he walked right out of an anime. he had this charming, sort of nervous feel to him, as if he was much newer to performing than, say, lee jinki. i have a feeling he’s a newer trainee, possibly around having been a trainee for around a year? that being said, he was truly a good pick for the boy group. his voice is soft and sweet, seemingly just like him, and though there does seem to be some distinctive personality and depth to his voice that really distinguishable to him. clearly, he’s my type, so this little one is very much in the running to be my bias in convex!

THAT’S IT FOR THE VOCAL UNIT! 5 down, 8 more to go! my next (convex) post will be on the rappers of convex, so keep an eye out for that!

oh gosh, all of them?! right well, i’d better get started then since I’ve got a heckuva lot to say! (thanks for sending questions, beibeis, i love receiving them, and answering them for you!)

i’ll go from my favourite company, to my least favourite then i suppose, so first up it’s… 

SPHERE » i’ve always been a big fan of sphere’s idols, namely chaos and royal pirates, but recently i’ve been exceptionally excited for the newest boys they’re bringing out in convex, which i’ve already figured out my favourite’s in - my favourite convex singer is nam woohyun (who we’ve recently learnt is now called royal!), his voice just makes me feel things, and i’m a sucker for those ballad voices, which he certainly has. my favourite convex rapper is probably choi seungcheol aka prhyme, who at first didn’t stick out to me, but after seeing his teaser video and thinking more about him, i realised he’s got a certain charm to him that’s really catching my attention to more i see him. my favourite dancer was very hard to pick considering all of the dance unit caught my eye in different ways, but kim kibum aka k.i has had my heart for quite a while now, since i’ve been following him since dream high. for the girls, i really like jung soojung, who i’ve had my eye on since mga season 3, and also park sunyoung, because i love a strong woman and she’s definitely got that ‘strong woman aura’!

KT » anyone who knows me knows that kt is probably my favourite company; they’re very much my taste and are constantly producing top notch groups such as chi chi and lc9 (who for years were my only source of happiness) so i’ve been rather excited to see what happens with eclipse! of course, i already have a bias, kim yerim aka anna! my favourite guy in kt is by far lee taemin, a guy i’ve followed right from mga season 1!

ROYAL » i always liked brave girls, but wasn’t ever a hardcore fan, so even though i haven’t been keeping up with luxe as much as i should be, i have looked into them a few times, enough to have a little excitement for their debut. i’m not quite sure who i like the most, possibly nam dawon aka sona, but i’ll wait until their debut, or see more of them, to pick a bias. however, my favourite female trainee, a finalist in royal survival, is lalisa manoban! my favourite male trainee is byun baekhyun, who i’ve had eyes on since mga season 3!

NOVA » despite not being the biggest fan of nova, i do have a soft spot for nell and myname! unlike sphere, kt, and royal, nova has been pretty silent recently, with no whispers of any upcoming groups on the horizon, which is a disappointment in my eyes - they tend to debut very strong groups! nevertheless, i have kept my eye on their trainees! firstly, my love, son seungwan, another person i’ve kept an eye out for since season 3 of the mgas. she stood out a lot to me back then, her amazing vocals catching my attention easily. there’s also my long standing love for lee sunmi, kim seokjin and yoo changhyun!

so i’mma be shortening my posts about the mga contestants considerably since i DO NOT have time to post like 40 reviews, they’ll either be by group now, or simply a lot shorter
