There were many people that Zelda would trust long before she’d trust Ganondorf, but there was little choice.

The castle was burning. Suddenly, unexpectedly, they had been attacked. Darkness had many reaching arms, it seemed, and Zelda had been so focused on the powerful evil residing in Ganondorf that she had not noticed a new, unknown threat heading towards her kingdom. She had, once again, proven herself foolish.. but she could not allow guilt to cloud her mind now. 

Monsters, so many of them, had suddenly attacked, leaving Zelda separated from her father, from Impa. Alone in the chaos, the sounds of screams ringing in her ears, piercing through the crackling of fire and the crashing of stone. Fearfully, she had called out for them, but she heard nothing. Unwilling to linger, she had raced through the castle, desperately praying that they were alright and that she, too, would be able to get out of here alive. Even if she did not deserve to for her folly, it was her duty to remain alive so that she could keep order, could protect Hyrule in the future. 

For some reason, she’d headed up, ending up on the ramparts. Up here, she coudl see fighting taking place all around, on the ramparts themselves and in the courtyard below. Upon seeing her, some of the guards had rallied to her, fighting even harder than before. Unexpectedly, she could see Ganondorf up here as well, fighting back monsters with a powerful, inhuman ease. Her sword sword, a rapier, was clenched her her hand, but it was yet to be stained with blood. Turning back to face the monsters, she realized that the guards who had been around her had been cut down, and she backed off, nearing Ganondorf with each step.

She could hear him speak, and she whipped around, the heat of a fire at her back, hair blown up by the updraft. He was holding a hand out to her, and she furrowed her brows. He wanted her trust. She wasn’t sure where they were going to jump to from up here, but he clearly had a plan, and she doubted it involved them both dying.
