Taekook’s New Year’s Greetings! (Tae’s usage of the 🌈 emoji🥺)

Poly, who tattooed the “7” on the BTS members, confirms (again) he tattooed Tae. He also explains in his IG story why he didn’t get Tae’s signature. Based on his comment, the implication is Tae did go with Jk, as he said he would, and that Poly tattooed Jk first, uploaded it, then got distracted by the notifications and forgot to ask Tae for his autograph.

Remember on June 13, 2022, Tae had gone on live and said he’d get his tattoo with Jk.

This happened two days later but I’m going to add this moment to this post. Something cute to archive is within a couple minutes of Jk’s Feb 3, 2023 live, he imitated his Taehyungie Hyung’s “Gidaryeo gidaryeo” -

Tae shared some fantastic photos on his Instagram stories, including two with Jungkook. According to Tae's post, he was missing Jungkook so much that he reached out to him and asked him to join him in Hawaii. Not surprisingly, Jungkook immediately took a 9-hour flight from Korea to be with Tae. This shows the depth of their romantic relationship and gives us a glimpse into their private lives, which we don't often get to see. This private trip would have remained unknown to us if they hadn't chosen to share it. It's fascinating to see this side of their relationship beyond what is publicly advertised or documented. The first photo Tae posted showed him writing, "Jungkook-ah, I'm in Hawaii right now, come here / come quickly, I miss you. This guy kekeke he took the plane / got on the plane and came right away." It's really heartwarming to see Jungkook's immediate response to Tae's longing as he hopped on a 9-hour flight to be with Tae privately. This is such a beautiful and genuine display of their affection for each other.

I’m not a native Korean speaker, so unfortunately, I may miss some of the language’s nuances. However, a few people on SM have said that Tae’s phrase “so pretty I could die” carries specific connotations, specifically a strong declaration, “I love him so much/ I love him to death,” and it’s not typically used in common settings. Essentially, what he wrote can simultaneously mean that JK’s beauty overwhelms him and that he loves him deeply, without boundaries.

However, with that being said, I also want to acknowledge some Korean speakers have cautioned this is a stretch to read too much into this. I hesitated but decided to share the below perspective because I know some will wonder why I didn’t include it. Ultimately, you can decide how to interpret what Tae wrote. For me, personally, I’m going to defer to the translation given by those translator accounts I trust, which is “so pretty I could die.” I don’t think it needs to be interpreted more heavily. It’s a beautiful, candid moment that Taekook chose to share with us, which I’m so grateful for. At the end of the day, the photos themselves make a powerful statement, and that’s what truly matters.

Remember, on July 6, 2022 (released), BTS played the game “do you know me?” Tae states he has beer in his fridge. Jk quickly says “yes” multiple times. Tae and Jk share eye contact before giggling and smiling. As of March 2023, Jk’s come on live multiple times to interact with us, while singing, chatting, eating and drinking beer, so it could be speculated, based on his enthusiastic response to Tae’s question, the look shared and the laughter that followed, that the beer is in Tae’s fridge for Jk (but of course, decide as you like).

Tae mentions “Jungkookie” a second time on his short live, once again glancing up to his left with a fond smile as he does. Right after he says his name, around 10:27, you can hear what, to me, sounds like two thumps in rapid succession. But as a quick recap, he was one of the first Hong Kong actors who was willing to play gay characters onscreen. His partner was childhood friend Daffy Tong, and he would signal to Daffy at concerts with a 👌🏽, which Daffy did at Leslie’s funeral, and which we’ve seen Taekook replicate.

April 8, 2023: Tae, Hobi and Jk go live at Jk’s home at 5:30am in Korea! 

Tae tells an off camera Jungkook, in his “soft, coo voice” that the live has started. Jk answers back in his deep voice that he knows. I’ve, personally, only heard Jk use this deeper register with Tae, and I’ve only heard Tae use this softer, cooing tone with Jk. Even though only a few words were exchanged in this instance, I found it sweet how they spoke to each other.

It should come as no surprise that the company has, once again, inaccurately translated. The below screenshots are from people familiar with the nuances of the language. Also, my friend is studying Korean and said Tae said - 지금 - meaning he had been drinking at home, just now or in the present time (which correlates with the below screenshots). 

Honestly, the past tense usage that the company translated as his words “I had a drink” doesn’t make any sense, regardless if you believe Taekook are in a romantic relationship or not. For Taehyung to have a drink at his personal home at 5am, take a taxi to Jk’s, then turn on a live for 2 minutes, is completely illogical. 

Based on Tae’s words, people who understand the nuances of the Korean language, and just realistic practicalities of the time of night (him being in pajamas with bed head) is this - he owns his own property, but he considers Jungkook’s home like his own as well, hence why he said he had a drink “at home” (in the present) and was familiar with the lights and offering to turn them off if Hobi preferred. 

As briefly explained above, Tae asks Hobi if he’d like him to turn off the lights, in a way that’s indicative he’s quite familiar and comfortable in the home (as if it’s his home, or he spends quite a bit of time there).

Hobi mentions his taxi is almost there. Tae then comments his is too.

Hobi posts on his IG stories from the cab. Tae didn’t post anything. This is speculative, because he says his taxi is almost there and then didn’t post anything after he supposedly left (which doesn’t necessarily mean anything). To be honest, this reminded me of the chaotic May 2019 live when Tae “left” the hotel room but didn’t. It’s not like he can really say he’s staying, so ultimately you decide as you like if Tae left or not.

Jk goes back on live, this time alone. He mentions he wrote in the group chat he was lonely, asking if anyone wanted to come hang out. He then says Hobi and “Taehyungie hyung” came. This becomes interesting a few days later, explained further below.

In an adorable pout tone, Jk mentions he didn’t plan to eat a late night snack but then “Taehyung hyung” ordered tteokbokki and he ate it.

He adorably pouts again that he shouldn’t be eating late night snacks, but it was so good. The official subs don’t translate him starting to sigh “Taehyungie hyung” but a translator on Twitter did.

I want to circle back to Jk’s comment about texting the group chat. On April 14, 2023 Hobi went live. He mentions that he “had a drink with Taehyung and Jungkook” (not “me and Taehyung had a drink with Jungkook.”) The trio sang karaoke and spent time together before Hobi’s went to military service (🥲) 

It’s speculative, but in my opinion, it seems as though the hangout was the same night Tae, then Jk, went live, considering schedules right after (Jk flying out to Los Angeles and Hobi preparing for service, etc). Hobi says as much when he mentions Jk moved his schedule to accommodate him. 

The trio spending time together, again, shows we only know so much of what goes on behind the scenes. We didn’t know the details of this Vhopekook hangout - as Jk only mentioned he texted the group chat - until Hobi shared it. It could also be presumed this wasn’t as impromptu of a hangout as Jk said on live, since Hobi said Jk moved his schedule for him. Members may say something that someone, later on, contradicts. This could be for many reasons, including privacy or closeting.

Lyrics have been debated, but here’s a version I found. The biggest takeaway, for me, is his mention of being a twin flame. 

Tae mentions Jk a third time, saying Jungkookie showed him the song “oh no oh yes” by Nakamori Akina. He only plays the song for a few seconds, but it’s long enough for listeners to know what song he’s referring to.

The lyrics are so queer coded and telling. It’s a song very fitting for Taekook, and it’s quite profound that Jk shared it with Tae.

A lot of people compared it to Tae’s song “stigma” and even non-Taekookers are pausing, also sensing how profound it is that Jk shared this song with Tae.

Jk has played this song twice during his March 14, 2023, Weverse lives. For him to share it twice is an indicator that he wanted us to understand how much he likes this song. As a musician who finds meaning in lyrics, it’s an indicator the meaning of the song resonates with him.

Taekook are the no space couple as they say goodbye to Hobi, who starts his military service (😭💔).

Taehyung leans into Jungkook, while Jungkook tightly grips Taehyung’s shoulder. Remember, Jungkook just got back to Seoul not even two days ago. Personal observation based on body language - Taekook really missed each other. Their body language here is really sweet, and is a big statement that they’re each other’s safe space. They always have been and they always will be.

When asked how his day was, he mentions he hasn’t done anything in the last week and a half but stay home. This comment is interesting, since this fits the time frame Jk was gone in LA (from  April 8-16).

Realizing the suggestion is “with Jungkook” he softly smiles and says it would be nice to do a karaoke live with him.
