Before I get into this, I would like to clarify that this is NOT a direct response to recent (semi-recent, forgive me, I’ve had a long work day) drama, though it’s absolutely prompted by it!
PLEASE RESPECT YOUR FELLOW ROLEPLAYERS.
Respect everyone in general, absolutely, but for this particular post we’re referring to roleplayers and the FREE content they provide for THEIR enjoyment - and the generously given enjoyment of OTHERS.
Roleplaying is a hobby; an activity done for entertainment purposes - to escape the stress of a day, to build on stories with others, to practice writing, etc etc. It’s something meant to be enjoyable, and if it’s NOT, what else is it supposed to be for? It’s not paying any bills, and putting so much work and effort into it when it’s not fun is just unnecessarily STRESSFUL and TIME CONSUMING.
Do not get upset if a mun does not draw for you
Do not get upset if a mun does not write for you
Do not get upset if a mun does not interact with you
Do not get upset if a mun does not want to ship with you
Do not get upset if a mun does not answer your ask meme
UNDERSTAND; Roleplaying is something a mun does for their ENJOYMENT. If a mun does not want to draw or write for you, interact or ship with you or your muse, or respond to your ask memes, it’s THEIR CHOICE. It may SUCK to be told no, but they have NO OBLIGATION to do these things for you! If they DO draw or write for you, interact or ship with you and your muse, or respond to the ask memes you send in, it is because THEY want to.
Art or writing made/done by them for you is a GIFT - something you should appreciate when received, and understand/accept if you are refused. Whether they’re too busy with school, have gotten too many other requests, simply don’t want to, or have other reason to prevent them - it is not something they are obliged to get done for you, it is not something you have payed for them to do, and it is NOT something they OWE you.
If you very much want the art or writing of a particular mun but have been unable to get it, consider asking to set up a TRADE, or better yet, COMMISSIONING them.
If a mun does not want to interact or ship with you and your muse, it SUCKS, but you need to SUCK IT UP! It can hurt knowing someone does not want to interact with you, or doesn’t have an interest in shipping with your muse, but it is - again - important to note that they DO NOT OWE IT TO YOU to do these things. If a roleplayer does not think they will enjoy interacting with your blog, that’s their choice, and sending anon hate or being upset about it won’t be doing you or anyone else a lick of good. Think they’re missing out? All good and dandy! But do NOT bother the mun about it.
If a roleplayer does not answer your ask meme(s), IT’S OK! For starters, it’s very possible a mun simply hasn’t gotten around to it. Roleplayers are REAL PEOPLE with REAL LIVES to attend to, and sometimes ask memes can be left in an inbox for months on end. It just happens! It’s also possible that a mun could have received TOO MANY ask memes, and for the sake of time and/or their own energy, decide to drop a few (which may very well have been duplicates anyhow). Mun’s will often times prioritize the ask memes of people they frequently interact with or know they enjoy responding to - if for ANY reason they decide not to answer yours, that’s THEIR prerogative. You may be unhappy with it, but they do NOT deserve you being a dick about it.
ROLEPLAYERS ARE PEOPLE; people have lives to attend to. They have feelings, preferences, illnesses, injuries, work, school, and all sorts of other nonsense to deal with outside of their RP blog. They roleplay because they WANT TO. It’s a HOBBY they do for FUN, and YOU ARE NOT PAYING THEM TO PRODUCE CONTENT FOR YOU.
A roleplayer can absolutely be an asshole about their reasons for not wanting to do things for you/interact with you, but it’s still THEIR choice. Consider simply BLOCKING them if this is the case because, honestly, who wants any content from someone they think is an ass anyway?
RESPECT YOUR FELLOW ROLEPLAYERS - and take care of yourself too. Don’t stress out about it and move on. Things may not have worked out, and that’s fine, just take your activities elsewhere. Sending anonymous hate or being a dick about shit is just…being a dick about shit. Nothing gained but the frustration and bitter feelings of everyone involved.
Roleplay is meant to be fun -
if you’re not having fun, something’s not going quite right.
