i cannot believe iâm about to defend george lucas as a scriptwriter but at least the prequels had the decency to actually interrogate why anakinâs actions were evil and unconscionable and those stories contended with the horror of the actions themselves as well as their collateral damage
the sequels do none of these for kyle ron
âoh so youâre saying in fiction all evil has to be punished???â absolutely not. anakin won, remember? he went on to build an empire, like he said he was going to. but the story forces us as the audience to contend that he was evil, whatever his Tragic Backstory was.
the sequels do not do that for kyle ron.
anakin killed a room full of children and all other characters are horrified by it. kyle ron blew up a planet on which many children live, and we never, ever talk about it again. the prequels do not defend or uplift anakin, whereas the sequels do a sharp one-eighty and turn kyle ron into the hero/protagonist of a story that was never supposed to be his.
The Prequels were shit, but at least they were GEORGE'S shit.
