Studying for my final in economics...after today I'll be able to breathe again. I haven't had much time to post due to the heavy load in my classes, two deaths in the family and a shift in the foundation of my world. Hoping to get it all together. I'll be posting my economics notes this weekend. They look awesome, but there's a ton!

Summer semester is finally over. Only 7 weeks, 2 classes, but brutal. I'm still waiting on 3 grades, but Art history is at 99% and ethics and civics is at 100%! So yay!!

I just found an INCREDIBLE youtube channel for learning spanish. Its this guy talking about various topics, slowly and using basic vocabulary. He includes imagery and draws out the story on paper while talking. Itâs called Dreaming Spanish. He has playlists set up based on topic, and another set of playlists based on level (he has three, super beginner, beginner, and intermediate), and I imagine itâs extremly useful for anyone who knows a handful of spanish, but would like to improve vocabulary and grammar.
Getting ready to start the new school year. I have summer classes starting in 10 days. My planner was pretty destroyed from this last year, so, it was time ft or a new one!!! I chose the same vertical layout from personal-planner.com as last year's. I found it really worked well. This year's "Brain" just needs some washi to dress it up!!! Super excited to start my second year of university.
Dope Researching
Categorizing Notes:
No matter what youâre researching, youâre going to need to refer back to your notes. Because of that, it makes sense to organize them based on a common type. For history, SPICE (Society, Politics, Interaction with the Environment, Culture, Economy) is pretty good (imo) if youâre just starting out.
For me, I separate my notes into six categories (which, honestly, may increase):
History:Â
This one is a bit of a no-brainier; anything that has to do with the history of a place/event goes into this category. Formation of nation/events leading up to The Event, what happened during the time of the nation/Event, major turning points, yadaâŚ..
People:Â
This part is for major figures that pop in whatever youâre researching. Government Leaders, Game Changers, Important Leaders, or Cultural Changers go here.Â
Culture:
If it has to do with culture-religion, customs, beliefs, traditions- it goes here. Careful that youâre not just listing everything as culture; make it sure that it actually served a function or a majority of the population did it.
For places like the Ottoman Empire or the Persians under Cyrus the Great, I recommend having Overarching Culture and {groupâs} culture.Â
Myths:
!!!!Depending on what youâre researching, you may or may not have this part.!!!!Â
Anyways, this is where youâll put notes that have to do with myths of a culture/religion. This is more so for quick references, and in a way, you might be able to understand/analyze the culture a bit more by knowing what their stories are.Â
Society:
This is where youâre going to put notes that have to do with how the society was: hierarchically, were there slaves, was there a class system, how was the class system done, who were Lower and who was Higher gender-wise or was it egalitarian, etc.
Government:Â
This is where notes on politics go: what laws were there, who were the allies (and maybe why they were allies), who was in charge, what type of government system was thereâŚ. and, were militaristic things would go: what was the army like, what wars were fought etc.
Smoothing out the rough parts:
This is pretty much the part where youâre going to get down and dirty with our notes.
You need to be real with yourself at this point: Did what you took notes on help you, or was it just a complete waste? If it was a waste where the information you got was pretty shit, take it out. You donât want to keep around information that is essentially useless because, well, itâs unnecessary too.
Also, I suggest rewriting your notes in your own voice; I would assume the majority of us would copy verbatim the source weâre taking notes on. Rewriting it in a way that sounds like you is going to show you whether or not you actually understand what you wrote or if you need to go back to the source and re-read it.
Bias and creditably:
This is another part where you have to be super real with yourself.Â
After reading a source, take a moment and think: did the writer have a super obvious bias, or did you feel there was a lot of favoritism on one side, or was there a lack of information on a topic? If the answer is yes, you might want to note that by your source. Understanding that there is bias to your source is going to help you think of how good your notes are, and whether that information can be trusted. Imo, everything is going to have bias so you want the works that arenât disgustingly bias.
Another thing is creditably. Where the source come from and who wrote it? I have an essay on here about the Perception of the Sex in the Near East. I canât lie and tell you all that it is a creditable resource; it isnât for two reasons. First, I have no degree or training in studying the Near East-all of my work comes from my own personal research. Second, this is not a website where there are editors or people who would check to see if there was an error with my information; there is no consequence for me misinforming someone. Both of these reasons makes my essays low on the creditably scale.Â
How much experience a person has with a topic increases their creditably along with their medium.Â
I would recommend checking the personsâ sources also.Â
Keeping a diary:
Keep a record of your questions and your thinking as you research. This is honestly going to help you decide where you should go and keep you aware of what you are understanding, while also perhaps exposing your own personal bias.Â
Personally, I would even say it helps with making connections.
Talking about it:
Honestly, if you want to know if what youâre saying if making sense talk to your friends about it. Youâre going to see if what you need to figure out more and what youâre missing. Thereâs even a chance your friends are going to point you in a new direction that you havenât thought of.
Making a timeline also helps you keep straight what is happening everywhere in the world at the same time.

4/19/18. Studying for my history final exam. Notes became mind maps, that turned into written thoughts, that were then regurgitated onto lined paper. This mock exam is exactly how I have to proceed during the exam. Made sure I was under the time limit. Itâs crazy, but Iâve got it! Next to prepare my final project and presentation due in 5 days.
4/10/18 Bio notes for exam on a cancer unit tomorrow. Seriously heavy content...at least for my non-scientific brain. Hmmm, I think it's about time for a puppy break!
3/3/18 That's a lot of homework to be done in 4 days. A movie historical analysis, A "field trip" event, with a paper on its historical connections, on Tuesday as well. And an exam next monday to study for....

2/7/18~exam is tomorrow. We got the full scoop on our Exam yesterday and letâs just say, itâs not gonna be easy. From the 20 terms we discussed during this unit, our class voted on 10âŚwhich she tied almost all of the other terms to, so we might as well be testing on all 20. Test consists of the list of terms on the board, copious amounts of paper and multiple writing utensilsâŚ.no questions. We define them, using details and examples that we discussed in class (and only what was discussed in class). So basically, we get to regurgitate every lecture weâve had since the beginning of the semesterâŚ.in one hour and 15 minsâŚ.no notes are allowed. I tried it tonight. Hit most of my points (thatâs the checkmarks). But it took longer than is allowed. Gotta speed it up, and my hand is killing me. Swell, itâs gonna be swellâŚ.
Lots of exam prep going on. Stayed pretty late to ensure some peace and quiet. Trying something new with my flashcards. One side a mind map, the other a response style explanation. Hopefully I'll get more info tomorrow on the exam.
