yesterday i picked up 2 ruby star charm packs from a new (to me) quilt store in texas. i really fell in love with them, and decided i'm gonna make my first large quilt with them! so far i've only tackled mini quilts and small projects.

i'm going to just use the 5" squares from the charm packs as-is, and add white/cream sashing between them. with 2 packs, i have 84 squares total; i'm going to arrange them in an 8x10 grid with 3" (finished) sashing. i'm also gonna do cornerstones: i'll pick up some assorted colors of the speckled fabric from ruby star at my local quilt shop.

the finished quilt should be 63" x 78". intimidating, but exciting!

most of my pieces are cut:

63 cornerstones, 142 rectangles for sashing.

i ended up going with a nice earthy green solid (bella solids by moda— "avocado") for the sashing, with ruby star goats as cornerstones. i fussy cut all the cornerstones so that the goats are centered.

This bright and playful table runner is 14x39 inches, a great size for hosting a bowl of Halloween treats and then some. I had a lot of fun making this! The quilting is done by machine with black thread. This is so colorful and lively, I didn't want the quilting thread standing out too much.
