This started when I was inspired by the outfit that Riddle wears in his dream during Malleus's Overblot (Book 7). I wanted to draw my OC in a punk-esque street style since I usually lean toward knightly fantasy in my character concepts.

I also imagined what he would be like as a part of that life. Since I've established him as a guitarist and Riddle has a band with Chenya in his dream, it would be fitting if he joined them. Or maybe if he was their rival across the square? Haha.

But then again, I quickly realized that he wouldn't be happy in a life at ease and full of freedom like dream-Riddle's. So I made a quick design of him as the armored hero he would dream of being — renowned as a warrior yet unknown as a person. Perhaps he is loyal to a sovereign (whose roses he wears on his cloak) or perhaps he follows his own justice — either way, the image is meant to be that of a serious and impressive swordsman. Not just limited to sports, either; he would be the legend that slays dragons and conquers evil, invincible both combatively and emotionally.

And, of course, he's quite a bit taller as well.

His main inspiration would technically be the Red (chess) Knight from the Alice in Wonderland sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, as reflected in his coffin icon & name patch. However, his design reflects a black knight, red and black being supplemented for each other in chess. I just like the black and blue theme. But red makes a good accent.

His Overblot shifts his design to the White Knight with red as the main accent color; the opposite of his typical black and blue.

I imagine his mother was a Red Knight and his father a White Knight, which amuses me.

He is heavily oriented toward principle, even perfection, especially for himself. This trait is derived from the odd rules in Through the Looking-Glass, including the Rules of Battle that the knights obey, and those of the Queen of Hearts in Twisted Wonderland. In addition to being an accomplished martial artist and sportsman, he also has high academics and is courteous in daily interactions. His ideals are chivalry in name but tend to end up as a harsh deliberation of what is right — what worth is.

This, again, largely applies to himself. He believes himself in some way unworthy of his prestige and privilege despite having worked very hard to get to where he is. As a result, he can only live with himself if he works even harder; he is chasing some sort of salvation from what he imagines to be the inherent blight on the world that is his existence — an evil, that which he hates and has turned his blade against.

His personality is very controlled, his demeanor distant, until one gets to know him and his gallant habits of trying to service others. In contrast, he is ruthless in battle and defensive about his skill, both methods of protecting his championship.
