The cold mercilessly bit through his skin as he fought against a shiver.

She’s late.

Taking another glance at his watch, he squinted at the tiny numbers, with only the dim fluorescent lights to aid him.

11.37 PM

She’s very late.

He took a deep breath, inhaling the sharp wintry night, before sighing and silently watched as his breath materialises into a swirling mist in front of him, swimming further away before fading off into the deep purple-blue sky.

Fading.

Jae scoffed humourlessly to himself, running his cold fingers through his blond hair. Not too long ago, she too started to fade.

It began with the little things, as it always did with break u- with breaks. Weeks went by and gradually the laundry got easier to do.  Shelves started emptying out. Walls became bare. A missing toothbrush. A bigger bed. Until finally, only the sounds of their last argument still rung in the too-big apartment:

”Tell me to just leave” he begged through clenched teeth, “tell me honestly”. ”Jae, you know I can’t-“ ”Say it!”

Her scent took a lot longer to fade than she did.

He wanted to be mad - god knows he wanted to be mad - if she wanted to leave why couldn’t she just go? What kind of sorry-ass excuse was “I think we need a break” anyway? Was it so hard to cut the stupid invisible string of fate or whatever? Was it so hard to say “look, I just don’t think this is gonna work”? Was it so hard to just leave, to just let him hurt instead of holding on to whatever it is they have left? Was it so damn hard to-

11.45 PM

But her leaving felt like not taking care of himself. It felt like sleeping too much or forgetting to shave or never eating or sleeping in between intense songwriting sessions. It felt like not wearing enough layers in winter, forgetting to pay the bills or never calling back home.

He wants to be selfish with her. He knew she deserved a better lover; a softer lover. Who offered roses for words and azaleas for touch. Who yearns for her like waves courting the shore during high tide, and chases her like the moon to the sun.

He waits.

Hey guys! 

I hope this (short short) drabble was interesting enough :) This is sort of a kick-starter for a series I’m doing, in which I write a (short short) drabble on each of the EveryDay6 songs released this year.

So it would be really helpful if you guys gave me some feedback - what was good, what was bad, what was meh - any suggestions, or prompts on what you want to see for certain songs is also very much welcomed!
