There are some esteem issues that come with the assault of being colonized and being dominated and being marginalized. But we have to push through those and embrace and immerse ourselves in the stunningness that is of us. You have to get on that one man boat and go out into the raging storm until you get to the break of a new day. You have to get to the point where it’s like this is not truth, and consequently it is no longer going to be my truth. And now I’m going to embrace the power of who I am and where I’m from.

In all seriousness, I HIGHLY reccommend Bleach. It’s like, the best rep for Black characters in anime that isn’t Mitchiko To Hatchin or Samurai Champloo or Afro-Samurai (I see those as, like, Afro-Anime, like their own sub-genre specifically for Black fans). Black people of multiple skintones and hairstyles all portrayed as complex and varied characters. Check it out if you can get past the crazy plot, and maybe look up the Hidden Cloud Village from the last season of Naruto (their Jinchuriki is a complete stereorype, but every other Black character from the village is okay, so I’m thinking either the artist realized his mistake or it was never his intention to make the one character like that in the first place).
