Ooh, BRAVO. I only ever check Reddit, but I haven’t been to the sub lately since my interest in the show itself has waned. But gosh, these are GREAT. I think, if anything, it speaks to the simple, straightforward beauty of their storyline. Their journey has never been weighed down by philosophical overtures and convoluted symbolism of what the gods mean and how they connect to reality or the war of the gods itself. Not that those are necessarily bad things, but I think some felt that some of those elements have made the show feel muddled at times. Sweeney/Laura was simply about a road trip between two characters who needed each other, and this structure really was just a way for them to get to know each other, possibly even fall in love (which really was just a bonus)...sometimes, you can even forget that Sweeney was a god who had a stake in the war because he just felt so human at times. 

Aww, anon...I mean, as I’ve mentioned, I do think Sweeney will be “around” in spirit, and that’s really all I can hope for, I suppose. I do agree that they threw away that potential, especially since their storyline and characters felt more grounded than anything else on the show, but what can we do? At this point, I think it’s up to Pablo, but he seems to have zero interest in returning under that particular management. 

Same. I really, really hope that we get *something* from Sweeney (and yes, not Doyle) at the end of this season, although I’m not sure what. So, I just saw this -- it’s from this Starz preview about Laura and Salim’s team-up from a future ep. And as you can see, Laura is still holding onto Sweeney’s ashes. 

What does this mean? Nothing. LOL. I just find it really endearing that she’s still holding him close to her, protecting him and definitely has plans for him that are deserved for the guy she loves. But let’s say she does do *something*, like scatters them or buries them somewhere that means something to him...I’m not saying I wanna see a ForceGhost Sweeney or anything, but like you said, his voice...or a vision? IDK, something kinda mystical or otherworldly cos, after all, this is a fantasy show about gods and the supernatural. 

Also, and this is totally related, but did you guys notice how, in ep 2.08, Laura is constantly bathed in sunlight throughout the episode? Observe:

It’s almost like the show is trying to tell us something. Hmm...

And how utterly sweet is this idea of them never leaving each others’ side, even when one of them is dead and gone? He shines down on her, watchful, protective...and she keeps him and what remains of him close, protecting him until she knows he’s safe...

So, I’m with you, anon -- I know Sweeney’s spirit is going to be this pervasive presence until the end of season as long as Laura is around, but having something a little extra would be AMAZING. :)

Oh hell yes, they’re canon. Absolutely. I mean, we always knew they were in love (or would fall in love), and even though their story was, due to mitigating circumstances, cut short, that episode only confirmed what we all believed, and that the series would eventually crank them up to canon status, which they did. And I liked the subtlety of how it was done, too...there were no overt proclamations of love, sentimental drama, or even shock from Laura’s end to learn that Sweeney loved her. She already knew...it was more about the struggle of HER (the more staunchly dubious of the two) to admit that she loved him too. So, yeah...it’s canon, baby.
