Not missing a beat, Sawyer gets out of her seat: strap placed onto a frail shoulder, belongings cleared off the work area.  ❛  You know it!  ❜  The teen chimes in, crossed arms shielding a petite frame from November cold.  ❛  ‘Cause I’m freaking LOADED… Alright. Crispy fries with some extra cheese on Sawyer Kinney– struggling, starving, college student. God, I need my own car. How did you manage?  ❜ 

“ honestly, it’s my dad. i’ve been telling him that’s not it but whatever. they are. and they’re nice to talk to. they can’t talk back either. aww, really? what’s it’s name? since i moved out, i got a black lab. how old are you? ”

       Sawyer was extroversion personified; any opportunity to be with her friends was hard to pass up on. Not only that, but the moral support was beyond needed.  ❛  I need the ride, anyway, so if anything– I’m just using you.  ❜  The older continues, attempting to break the newly-made tension.  ❛  Cheese fries?  ❜  

“ the pit bull is my personal favorite. he’s named bruce. after the shark. honestly, if i could get away with only being surrounded by dogs, i would be living the life. well, it’s nice to meet you. ”

“ i do too! my dad has like three of them. a pit bull, a carolina and the other’s mixed with something. we aren’t sure. i prefer dogs to people actually. i’m sorry. what’s your name again? i’m awful with names. ”

     Brows brought together, Sawyer offered the younger a nod in response; small pout formed on nude lips.  ❛  No, no– that sucks.  ❜  She spoke, beginning to put her belongings back into an already full bag.  ❛  I was gonna head by Smith’s on my way home… But we could, maybe, get something at Benny’s, if you want?  ❜  

       Sawyer shouldn’t worry her friend over something she would rather keep to herself. She was used to being the BIG SISTER in each & every scenario, and the other way around brought discomfort. So, she shakes her head. ❛  No, nothing like that.  ❜  Her tone is lighter this time around, an attempt to deflect from the current mood.  ❛  I’m fine, really, promise. Just– school’s really kicking my ass. And being captain isn’t always a WALK IN THE PARK. I’m good.  ❜  Lips curl in a faux smile; reassuring, fabricated.  ❛  So, enough about me. What were we talking about again?  ❜  

           A hand runs through fine hair, disrupting its untouched nature. Academic challenges weren’t something she feared, let alone studied for in an act of OVERACHIEVEMENT. They weren’t even being graded. It was a distraction, at best, and maybe also at worst.  ❛  Date, I meant … the date.  ❜  The teen breathes out, the clarification being inaudible to almost everyone but herself.  ❛  Yeah! I’ve just been SO BUSY; with soccer, and friends, and school, and–  ❜  Pause. There was no need to reveal hook-ups that are intended to go under the radar.  ❛  Stress makes you… the body… like, not do its thing, you know? That’s it.  ❜

“ yep! that’s me. we are! i have a question though. how do you feel about dogs? ”

          Nose scrunches and fingertips find her forehead, she was usually a better multitasker. But the new semester proved more anxiety-inducing than she could’ve predicted, that; among other things.  ❛  No, just– TIRED. I stayed up all night studying for my sociology quiz.  ❜  It wasn’t a lie, but she definitely had a better track-record with socialisation after lack of sleep. Mind trailed off once more, resulting in the change of topic. ❛  Uh… Do you know what day it is? ❜
