“Vergil. Dante. Credo. Sanctus.” he says, perhaps a little too quickly. It’s not untrue - the guy killed Credo. Took Kyrie from him. But it almost feels like a cop-out. Of course he wanted to destroy Sanctus - Kyrie knows that. But... he doesn’t need to admit to the others, does he? He can keep that buried. It’s just... less messy.

“You got some time to kill?” he scoffs, smirking. Sure, he’ll kick back and have a chat with the Prince of Hell. Why not?

“Happened pretty much every day at school. Kids didn’t like me much, so I got shit from them all the time. Got mad, lashed out, got sent home. Or we could talk about the Order. Get sent out on solo missions, do the work of four men, then get blamed for not being ‘tidy’ enough. Or the time Credo blamed me for eating the leftover lasagna....”

He... pauses. For a moment. Watching Vergil closely. This ground is still all so new and untrodden, and he’s aware enough of what might be a sensitive topic to take his time mulling the words over in his head.

“My family,” he says finally, meeting Vergil’s eye. It’s not a challenge, but he’s also not going to shy away from the truth. “Kyrie and the kids. The home we’ve made. What we’ve got. I mean... it’s not a lot, but it’s ours, y’know?”

He’s not sure what to make of the quiet that follows, but he moves on quickly. He’s not a fan of lingering awkward silences.

“As for the second....”

It’s almost funny. The one time he felt the most drained. The one time that clings to his memory like cold, icy fingers...

abraxas: do you believe in any higher power? if so, what?

“No.”

It’s abrupt. Something of a sensitive issue, and not one he’s examined in a long, long time. He remembers the day he shut out the concept of God. Of ‘higher powers’ - and he’s never had any time for people who’ve tried to convince him otherwise.

And everything he’s learned about Sparda since leaving Fortuna has only further cemented his conviction. Sparda was no God. No Angel. He was just another demon. 

“What kind of question is that?”

It instantly rubs him up the wrong way. But then, so does everything doppel says, so really, what’s new? His favorite? Like lying is some sort of game?

... huh...

 He guesses it is for some demons.

“If that’s what you need to tell yourself, old guy.”

He stops. Sighs. This clearly isn’t going to stop on its own, huh? 

“You gonna follow me all day?” he asks, finally addressing he issue. Thankfully he has no jobs he needs to be at.

“I guess this is.... an improvement?”

... of course.

He should have known...

Hey, what the---...??

... oh. Okay. This he can accept. He may be tired and only half-aware of what year it is, but these are his special people and he’s gonna pull them both in for big, groggy hugs.
