Not That Blonde

“I’m sorry, what?” he said as she announced that she wanted to stake out her birth mother. “You have a birth mother? And you want to stalk her?” he asked. “Why? Is she a serial killer or suspected of being one that you need to stake her out instead of talking to her like a normal human?”

“Yes I do have a birth mother, where do you think I came from? A peach?” she asked, referring to a traditional Japanese children story Momotaru who were born from a peach. “No, I just need to make sure she’s legit, okay?” she said to Zachary, “I thought of all people you’ll be the last one to questioned me,” she admitted, “Also how do you suppose you talk to someone who abandoned you twenty two years ago? Hi mom, I hate you?”

Lydia wasn’t one to poke her nose where it doesn’t belong but to her, it definitely seemed like there was something that either upset Sutton or caused her distress to some extent. What that was, she wasn’t sure and she wasn’t about to ask. From what she could gather it was something to do with her phone or what was on it. Again, she wasn’t in a position to ask but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make sure that she was okay. “Are you sure?” Lydia asked softly. “You just… look a little upset, that’s all. Is there anything I can help with?”

Sutton nod her head before smiling to Lydia, “Yeah I’m fine,” she didn’t really want to talk about it because it’s just too confusing and too difficult for her to talk about it, she felt like if she said it too loud it’s like accepting this strange woman is her birth mother and she has to confront her own feelings, that she had nothing good to feel about her own mother. Sutton shook her head this time, “Just something I’m not sure I walk to talk about yet.”

Marissa nodded her head as Sutton spoke. “That’s what I thought but..” She shrugged her shoulders. She really didn’t know what to think. Sutton was his best friend and if he wouldn’t talk to her … then it must be something. “That’s not what your face is saying…” Marissa sighed as she spoke… pretty sure that what she had feared, was definitely coming true. “He’s left, hasn’t he?” She asked with a sigh. He had done it before hadn’t he? She was sure that he had. It had been mentioned a few times anyway…

Sutton wanted to deny it, she wanted to just think that Isaac went away for work, that soon enough he’ll be back, knocking on her front door with that goofy smile of his demanding their usual movie night. She couldn’t possibly think of any reason why he would leave like this, again, after how hard it took them to fix their broken friendship. “Did anything happened before he disappeared? Did he say anything?” she asked, trying to make sense of everything.

“That is very true.” She agreed with a nod. “Oh wow, that is young for being responsible for quite a bit thing. It’s really interesting though I definitely understand how you feel. Maybe we will have to do some brushing up on our tech to be able to keep up.”

Sutton laughed softly and nod her, “Yeah it’s incredible really. I mean she’s green and barely starting a career and most of the stuff are controlled and vetted by our Communications Director, but yeah, she’s pretty great and very tech savvy,” Sutton praised the girl working with her. “I think we do, us the older generations are the ones who need to catch up.”

It was hard to see why anyone would want to go through all the trouble to make themselves seem like they were Sutton’s biological mother, but Kyle supposed it could still happen. Just because he didn’t see the point didn’t mean someone wouldn’t do it. But this had been bothering Sutton for a while now. And it was still happening. She was still facing it. It wasn’t something that was going to just go away either. While some might argue Kyle was a pessimist, he liked to think of himself as a realist. Yeah, it was possible this person could try to dig up something about Sutton or the mayor. But it was still possible she just wanted to reconnect, in a sense. Hearing her out and letting her explain, Kyle nodded. “Well… maybe once you meet her, if you choose to, you can get some more answers. I’ll go with you if you want. Whenever, whatever. But until then, let’s not think about it. Alright? I’m gonna drag you out of this place if I have to. We’ll go find something to do. Clear your head.”

Sutton didn’t know if she’s ready yet to really talk to this woman. Sure they’ve met when she first come up to Sutton and dropped the truth bomb, but Sutton quickly dismissed the woman saying she needed time before she’s ready to see her again, and she wasn’t lying, but the thing is she didn’t know if she could ever be ready to faced the woman who abandoned her 22 years ago. “I’m not sure I can ever be ready,” she admitted, “But I think I’ll have to see her eventually right? To talk to her? It’s not like I can avoid her forever. When I’m sure about it, I’ll tell you for sure. But thank you for being here for me though, I appreciate it.”

Marissa knew what she  hoped was the answer. She hoped that Stton was just going to tell her to stop worrying and that he had told her that he was busy… but then she heard what it was that she had to say. Marissa shook her head as Sutton spoke… but she quickly realised that she had no idea if he was in trouble or not. “No … I mean. I don’t know.” She shrugged her shoulders with a sigh. “I haven’t heard anything from him in a long while is all..” 

Sutton’s eyebrow rose up slightly but she became a bit more alert of the situation, something is wrong especially when Marissa said she haven’t heard from Isaac for a while. The familiar feeling sinks inside of Sutton as her face fell but she tried not to think of the worst. She grabbed her phone from the table and tried to texted her best friend, but none was even read, so she tried to called and it was off. She couldn’t believe this happened once more. “I’m sure he’s just busy,” she said trying to be positive but she still texted one of her people to check if Isaac’s number is still on.

Hearing the knock on his door, Zachary sat up from where he’d been reading articles on his phone. He stretched out and went to open it, hearing the voice from the other side telling him it was Sutton. “You know, if I wasn’t home, you calling out would make no difference at all other than you’d stand here a little longer,” he told her as he crossed his arms and leaned against the frame of his door. “So, what’s up? You wanna come in or something or just got lonely?”

Sutton’s mind wasn’t exactly here right now so even when Zach opened the door and started talking, Sutton was pretty much distracted and didn’t realy registered what he said, “What?” she looked at Zach dumbly, “Good you’re home. I need your help,” she said, stepping inside the place, “I need you to come with me to stake out my birth mother’s work place. I need to know more about her.”

Hearing her words, Kyle nodded. Unsure if it was good or bad at this point. Maybe good for the fact that she had answers? But he wasn’t so sure it was the answer she was looking for. When Sutton turned her phone to let Kyle see, he glanced between the pictures and her. There was definitely a resemblance. “What do you mean, appears to be? They still don’t actually know? Or?” The look on her face was a bit crushing. Defeat and pain. This wasn’t how someone was supposed to find out about their parent. Sutton shouldn’t have had to turn to a private investigator to find out the truth in the first place. Chewing on his lip, Kyle looked back to Sutton. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what would have been the better outcome. Or if there was ever really a good one to start.”

“Well the guy I hired was sure, I mean all the pictures and the documents support that fact, but...” she shrugged her shoulders, “She could be a damn good forger, a conman, whatever she is,” Sutton still trying to deny the blatant truth about her birth mother, “Who knows what she really wants. She could try to dig something about me, or worse about the Mayor...” she shook her head, it’s easier for her to think this woman is just some grifter and not her birth mother. After being quiet for a while she let out a sigh, “Honestly though, it’s just so much easier if she’s not my birth mother. If she’s just a grifter. I’ve been waiting for that feeling you know? Like that instinct of knowing she’s my mother, any joy or something like that, but,” she shook her head, “Nothing.”

               briar rose  looked  at  the  blonde  before  her.   but  her  mind  was  dizzy,  therefore,  she  frowned  with  the  question…  ❛  Yeah...  It’s  just  hm…  My  key  isn’t  working.. So  I  can’t  get  inside  of  the  lift. ❜   she  slurred  her  words,  sighing  deeply  disappointed  with  her  key  (  that  actually  was  her  credit  card ).  she  rested  her  head  on  the  wall,  but  remained  sitting  on  the  floor.  to  be  clear,  she  wasn’t  sure  if  she  is  able  to  stand  up  at  the  moment.

Sutton’s frown deepened, a little confused but she realized the other woman was beyond intoxicated, “You only need to push the button though,” she said and pushed the up button on the elevator to called it down, “And that’s a credit card, sweetie. Come on, let me help you,” she said and helped the girl to stand on her two feet, “What floor are you going?”

Lilja laughed, putting her phone away in her pocket. “It’s okay, I usually just ask one of my nephews or my niece whenever I’m having tech issues. The oldest is only 14 and yet they seem to know soooo much more about these sort of things than I do which is a bit embarrassing.” She shook her head, grinning. Back when she used to choreography young kids they would also show her how to use all the latest apps and gear. Or would at least try to. Something she never really caught on well to.”

Sutton shared a laugh with the other woman, “Those youngsters are always more savvy in these kind of stuff. The kid who takes care our social media is only 21 years old,” Sutton told Lilja with a small nod, “It does make me feel somewhat inadequate,” she chuckled.

“No shit.” Emilia said with a tight smile, considering they were both in a coffee shop it would be a bit weird if they weren’t getting coffee. “Not too bad, getting on with things. You know how it is.” Emilia gave her order to the barista and moved down to the pick up counter, following the other blonde. “What about you, anything of any actual interest going on? Her words sounded like she cared, but her tone showed that she didn’t, she was actually very distracted. 

Sutton raised her eyebrow a little at the woman’s respond but she shrugged her shoulders and smiled a little, “Yeah,” she nod her head before gave the other woman yet another shrug as she couldn’t exactly tell the other woman what’s been going on after all, “My life is as boring as it can get honestly. It’s just work and more work, I’m the poster child of workaholics,” she said with a small chuckle.

Doutzen scrunched her face. She wasn’t a fan of kicking a dog while its down, but she knew no matter how she said that the girl was being loud, it’d more than likely come off as rude. So she took a deep breath and just said it, making sure to lean closer towards the blonde so not to make a scene. “Hey. Just so you know, everyone can hear you. Not sure what you’re dealing with, but if its personal, you’re making it common knowledge right now.”

Sutton almost jumped when someone suddenly leaned closer towards her, “What?” she crinkled her eyebrows a little, she didn’t think she was talking that loud, sure she sounded urgent and insistence, but she didn’t think she was talking that loud, “Well I was just asking someone to make sure of something, not exactly revealing state’s secret,” Sutton said with a forced weak smile in the end, she would know about revealing state’s secret after all, she once take care of someone who did exactly that when she was still a fixer.

Emilia made her way down the street near to the hospital, her face set in a slightly pale mask with empty eyes. The surgeon was still in shock from seeing Cormac brought into the ER earlier that day, and she’d stepped away from the hospital while they ran a couple of tests on him to grab a decent cup of coffee and take some air. Pushing into a cafe next door she was already in the line when she realized the person she was behind also lived at Queens. She was trying to keep herself together, lips pressed together, as she decided on her drink silently. However, when the other turned around she gave them a small smile, nodding in greeting. “Hey, how’s it going?”

Sutton had just ordered her coffee and was about to move to the pick-up counter when she turned around and recognized the face, “Hey, just getting some coffee,” she greeted back, the coffee shop wasn’t her regular, but she was just stopping by before she went to the hospital near the cafe to see someone. She stepped out of the way for the other woman to order, “How have you been doing?” she asked.

Lilja held up her phone so the front facing camera was directed at her face. Pressing at the screen she spoke in her native tongue though she put on a bit of a funny playful tone, “Ég elska þig líka. Þú kjánalegt björn” She spoke to the phone before sticking out her tongue and smiling. Once she finished recording the snap, she glanced down at her phone to press send before she heard footsteps and realized someone else was now in the room with her. A bit of embarrassment washed over her as she glanced up at the person, a sheepish smile moving to her lips. “Oh hi… I swear I’m not crazy just making faces at my phone. I was just sending a snap chat to my niece. Or at least trying to—I still don’t know how to work this thing too well.” She said, chuckling softly.

Sutton couldn’t help but to let a small chuckle when she went to the courtyard of the apartment and found Lilja making faces towards her phone, “Hey don’t let me interrupt you in making weird faces to your phone,” she joked with a small laugh, “Well don’t ask me, I’m not that tech savvy, also why we have people taking care the City Hall’s social media, or I might screw it up.”

               briar rose  just  arrived  from  a  bar  &  she  was  obviously  drunk.  hell,  she  couldn’t  remember  how  she  managed  to  get  out  of  the  bar.  she  took  her  credit  card,  trying  to  passing  it  on  the  button  of  lift,  as  if  she  was  paying  something,  but  reality  she  wanted  get  inside  of  the  lift,  so  she  would   be  able  to  get  on  her  floor. ❛ Ohhhh!!  Why  nobody   told  me  the  lift  is  broken ?  ❜  the  hollywood  star  slurred  her  words,  slamming  her  fist  on  the  doors  of  the  lift,  sighing  deeply,  sitting  on  the  floor,  with  her  purse  &  credit  card  on  her  hand  (  she  was  holding  it  as  if  it  was  a key  to  enter  on  places ) ,  looking  at  the  door’s  of  lift  quizzily  as  if  she  was  trying  to  think  in  a  way  in.  she  refuses  walk  12  floors.

Sutton let out a small yawn and cracked her neck as she walked across the lobby towards the elevator and a little surprise to see someone slumping in front of it, “Hey, are you alright?” she asked the girl, “Do you need help?” she looked at her with concern.

Coming around the corner, Kyle nearly ran into Sutton, stopping just short of collision as he immediately picked up on her conversation she was having over the phone. It wasn’t that he was intentionally trying to listen in or anything but it was hard not to. And as soon as she lowered the phone from her ear, he walked around her a bit, stopping by her side. “Double and triple checking? Is this about your biological mom or something else entirely?” He recalled her having mentioned a woman getting in contact with her that was claiming to be her mother, but he hadn’t seen Sutton since to know if she found anything out. Whether it was legit or not. But by the sounds of it, maybe the person she had looking into it found something.

Sutton turned her head and see Kyle there before she let out a heavy sigh and nod her head weakly, “It is about that,” she told Kyle, after all Sutton had told Kyle her dilemma about her birth mother coming to see her, no one really knows her real motives and Sutton just can’t be too sure. “The P.I got back to me and well she’s my mother,” she said, showing the pictures she got on her phone to Kyle. “At least she appears to be,” she shrugged her shoulders, because until now she still doesn’t feel it. She had imagined of this moment for a hundred times, meeting her birth parents again, and she thought she would’ve feel something more, she would’ve feel at least something, not this.

Toni was one to be nosy and for that, she didn’t care if people called her out on the busy or not but she found it exciting and fun for her entertainment to mess with others. So when she was passing Sutton and hearing an odd phone call she couldn’t help but laugh. Once the woman realized that Toni was standing close to her, Toni rose her eyebrows only to have a rest on her natural bitch face. “Triple check what? Hope this is a very very very important thing” She mocked with a grin. 

Sutton sighed heavily as she kept looking at the picture, she was so young, probably the last picture taken when she still have both parents, before they abandoned her completely. Her train of thought was interrupted by a woman’s laugh, she turned her head, looking at the woman, not completely oblivious to her mocking way, but this isn’t the kind of fight Sutton want to waste her time on, she has other battles to fight, so she let it slide, “It’s pretty important, yeah,” she nodded, “It’s about my birth mother,” she dropped it with a small shrug.
