@Lil_Henstridge : Instagram Story (May 22nd, 2017)
andrew-hale:
There it is. Andrew slowly nodded. To be fair, if she hadn’t responded in the way that she did, it would have almost felt wrong. He had grown used to her teasing, and usually reciprocated it if he wasn’t the one starting it in the first place. Trying to hide the ever-growing smirk, he folded his arms, placing them on the surface before him and leaned against the counter again, burying his face as if in defeat. He let a moment pass while he still had his face buried, shaking his head slightly before popping back up. “It feels great. My crops are flourishing. My skin is clear. However else that meme goes… Might have a fever though. That one’s debatable. I always feel hot, so.” There was no keeping a straight face after that comment, a laugh slipping from him. But when he finished his thought and got the question out, he wasn’t quite expecting that response from her. “Oh?” he echoed her choice of word. Maybe she hadn’t thought much about it either. It hadn’t dawned on her. Which was possibly a good thing then, considering that would put them both on the same page. But really, just in the three months they had been dating, their emotions had been just about everywhere. A lot sort of happened in those months. Not that Andrew was trying to think of an excuse why he hadn’t taken Lydia on an actual date. But it was overdue.
“Wait, why does that make you feel like a crappy girlfriend?” Andrew smiled at the perfect pairing comment. They made the perfect nontraditional pairing, really. Because there wasn’t much about their relationship that seemed typical, and Andrew was more than okay with that. After all, hadn’t they both agreed that normal was boring anyway? “Oh, so you’re thinking now too, huh? How does it feel?” Andrew mirrored her stance, folding his arms with a grin. “Do people still, what? Go on dates?” He furrowed his brow. “I think so. I did see an elderly couple holding hands the other day, so that was cute. But I’m a bit rusty too, it’s fine. It’s not like anyone’s grading us on dating etiquette. We probably would have already failed. Clearly.” Andrew met Lydia halfway as she took a couple steps forward. Did he have something in mind? “I might. And believe me, I am looking at you.” He knew she was only kidding around, just the same as he was when he referred to himself as ‘hot’. It wasn’t that they had huge egos. Far from it. Lightly brushing a hand over her cheek, Andrew bent down to kiss her, gently pulling away with a smirk. “I think we need a cheesy idea. That cheesy first date where you’re getting acquainted, you know?” Just about anything could technically be considered cheesy, so the possibilities were endless. Andrew didn’t mind one way or another. It was with Lydia, and no matter what they seemed to do, they could always make it interesting.
For the time being, Lydia tried -- repeat: tried -- to somewhat maintain a neutral expression on her face. But as soon as Andrew answered with a meme, she completely lost it. The more she tried to stop herself from laughing, the harder it was to contain herself and the less she wanted to try. At first, she simply stared him down. The rest was history. Her glare morphed into a grin and the next thing she knew, she burst into laughter. “Wow. Okay. The only thing I deciphered from that is that you’re a farmer. Congrats.” To top it off, she even did a round of applause just because she thought she was hilarious. The comment about Andrew always feeling hot earned an eye roll from on Lydia’s end but she meant well, the smirk remaining. “Yes. I know. That’s why I use you as my human radiator. Obviously,” She said, her tone deliberately sounding sweet for the ‘innocent-like’ effect. It was something they would never grow out of, teasing and poking fun at the other at any opportunity that presents itself. They were like the same person at times in that way. And the funny thing was, they never got tired of it. And honestly, she couldn’t imagine ever getting tired of it. What was also funny is the fact neither of them had realized that they hadn’t even been on a date. Why was it so amusing to her? Because they had been together for three months and yet it only just occurred to them. It was the sort of thing people did before they were “officially” couples. Or right at the start of any relationship, really. As for Lydia and Andrew, they dove right into it. And the three months they’ve been together had been a rollercoaster, ranging from one emotion to the next, the ups and the downs and the in between. She wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hearing him repeat her reaction back to her, almost questioningly, she nodded slowly, unable to wipe the smile from her face. She didn’t feel like elaborating. ‘Oh’ was enough. A thought, a realisation. It seemed appropriate. At the next question, she shrugged nonchalantly as she tried to think of a way around explaining what she wanted to. “Why does it make you feel like a crappy boyfriend?” She shot the question back at him in the hopes that his response would help her clarify what she wanted to say. Noticing the way he mimicked her position, Lydia tilted her head a fraction, narrowing her eyes for a brief moment like she was trying to suss him out. But the fact he basically took her jests and turned it around on her... she shouldn’t have expected anything less from him. “Ah, you know. Feels great. Flourishing crops, clear skin, yadda yadda yadda.” If he could do that to her she could turn it back on him. Her eyebrows rose subtly, as if silently challenging him, a cocky smirk on her lips as if to say ‘what’s next?’ But even she couldn’t help but aww at the thought of an elderly couple holding hands. It was sweet. “’kay. Rude. I’m going to pretend you never said that. Or that I never heard it. Because where grading is concerned -- or not -- I, Lydia Collins, do not fail. Ever. So, keep that in mind.” Lydia shook her head, tutting at him. The grin never once left her lips though, evident that of course she was still joking. Although, it was mostly true. The not failing at anything part to do with grades. “We’ll be good. Who knows? Maybe better than expected. Whatever is expected, that is -” She laughed, “Or not expected. Whatever.” By this point, Lydia wasn’t sure if she knew what she was talking about. Just rambling.
“I can see that,” She said, a cheeky smile plastered all over her face when he pointed out that he was looking at her. “Your two eyes are a big giveaway. In case you didn’t know in case for some reason, if there is an off chance that your vision is impaired for some reason unknown to us all, I am looking at you too.” And that was almost a mouthful. Almost. Nuzzling gently into the feeling the touch of his hand against her cheek, Lydia leaned in to kiss him back, pouting as he pulled away. If it was down to her, that would have lasted longer but if that were the case then there was a chance they’d never get on with this date idea, whatever it was. Reaching for his hand, she threaded her fingers in the spaces between his, squeezing gently as she thought over his suggestion with a smile. “Cheesy idea. There’s about a hundred of those. Question is: how do we narrow it down?” She quizzed. “And another question while I’m at it -- how do we ‘get acquainted?’After being together for like three months, you’d think we’re already very acquainted. I think we went straight into that,” Lydia added with a laugh, smiling at him nonetheless, curious to see what he could come up with.

“So, uh. Hey. I was thinking…” Andrew wasn’t sure why he was taking so long to get the words out, pausing and giving time for Lydia to fire back at him if she so desired. Honestly, just the thought alone brought a smirk to his lips. He ran a hand along the surface of the counter as he rounded the corner. Bending over to rest his elbows on the surface, Andrew rest his chin in his hand a moment. “We’ve never been on a date.” His smirk that had only just faded quickly grew into a grin as he pushed himself up off the counter, running a hand through his hair. “Like… a real date. Have we?—I don’t think we have. And now that the realization has set in, I feel like a crappy boyfriend.”
Andrew let out a small laugh. They never had anything to prove to anyone by dating or venturing out in public together. It was like they skipped the honeymoon phase and went straight to married couple—hypothetically speaking, of course. But they had always been so relaxed around each other, there was no need for any added frills. “Would you like to go on a date, Lydia?” He spoke with a lighter tone, smiling. It was a silly question. And one that probably shouldn’t even be asked in the first place. Rather, Andrew probably should have just acted. But while he might have sounded like he was joking, he didn’t want to force her into anything because they didn’t have to go anywhere if she didn’t want to. “I might need to brag to the general public about my girlfriend. She’s pretty great and all.”
Andrew’s pause in after the first comment had Lydia curious. She raised her eyebrows in silent response, the small smirk on her face indicating her desire to make a teasing comment to that. As always, she was on fire and could not be held back at any costs. In feigned surprised, she elicited a gasp, one hand over her heart, the other covering her mouth dramatically, in clear exaggeration. “What... you mean - you? You -- you were thinking? Like... for real?” She deadpanned despite her attempt to look shocked. “Wow, Andrew... that is such a breakthrough - how does it feel? Are you okay? You don’t have a fever or anything, do you?” Knowing Lydia, she could play at this all day. The teasing comments rolled off the tip of her tongue and it was difficult to restrain herself... but she was interested to hear what he had to say and so she decided to reign in the sarcasm for a little bit of time. (Which, knowing her, wouldn’t last very long. Better still, it was worth a try.) He spoke as she almost-very-nearly thought of another comment to throw back in a playful manner, but his statement caught her off guard. “We haven’t?” She said, pensively. That’s when it occurred to her. They really hadn’t.
“Oh.” Was that a bad thing? Lydia didn’t think so. Honestly, she couldn’t care less what they did: go on dates, not go on dates, do whatever. As long as she was with Andrew, the rest didn’t matter to her. “Well - now you’ve said it, I feel lie a crappy girlfriend so I suppose we are both on the same page. Makes us the perfect pair,” She teased, a knowing smile playing on her lips. The thought only made her smile grow wider as he asked the question. Before replying straight away, she crossed her arms over her chest as she spoke, “Hmm... I don’t know, I’ll have to think about that...” Really, what was she going to say? No? Not in a million years. But it was always amusing to poke fun and to kid around. “Sure. I mean, why not, right? Do people still do that? I’ve gotta admit, I’m a little rusty,” She admitted then, eliciting a quiet laugh as she motioned a small space between her finger and thumb as if to make a point. “Did you have something in mind already?” Lydia asked, smiling fondly at him as she took a couple of steps closer. A laugh escaped her at the last comment and she couldn’t help but respond with, “Well I can hardly blame you for that because... you know. Look at me.” Of course, she could be bigheaded and even arrogant at some times. But she never genuinely thought so highly of herself. She simply saw it as her opportunity to poke more fun at him.
and making snow angels on the ocean floor. [x]
"Shoot me." (WHOOPS my fingers slipped again. AU? :))) )
Eyes locking on the man before her, Lydia’s gaze hardened, jaw locked as she stared him down. He was a stranger to her yet he felt so familiar. Why? She knew him. Did she? Anybody she came across posed as a threat to the woman. She trusted no one - was taught that by her father. Trusting gives someone leeway to betray, turn against you, become a threat. Threats needed to be eliminated. No room to make relationships, form alliances. Keep people at arm’s length and stay alert because you never know what’s around the corner. It had been instilled in to her mind for as long as she could remember.
The weeks started to alter that perspective. Her dreams consisted of fragmented memories; pieces of an incomplete jigsaw puzzle where she had no idea what the picture on the box was supposed to look like. She didn’t think to tell anyone, though. Not even her father. Her dad would imply that she’s losing the plot, whilst others may view that as a weakness to exploit as it immediately suggested vulnerability. Vulnerability due to uncertainty. Lydia couldn’t have that.
Andrew. That was his name. People kept mentioning him but she had yet to face him. Up until this very moment. They were all people she didn’t know. People she could have swore were those in her dreams. Her dreams were mismatched. Bits and pieces and glimpses. A different version of herself, as if there were two of her. It was incredibly difficult to describe, and she wasn’t sure if she should. Usually, if she was in doubt, it was because there was a threat looming. And threats had to be eliminated.
