TV and Film have endless problems not only when it comes to representing diversity but also with acknowledging/celebrating the diversity it has during award shows. No arguing that, but you can’t transplant the problems of those industries over to music. The Recording Academy is not the same as say the Academy of Motion Pictures because the number of minorities in their member roster is significant and their yearly Grammy nominations and wins always show it. This year the five most nominated artists were POC: Beyonce, Kanye, Rihanna, Chance, and Drake. All black. Throwing around the word “racism” for instances like these only cheapen the meaning of the word and make people take it less seriously in circumstances that really matter.
