eventually, susan married arthur “art” whitlock-holmes, the handsome, difficult heir to the whitlock-holmes funeral home. he was the love of her life and the worst man she ever knew, a man she mourned deeply and survived completely. officially, arthur died peacefully in his sleep after years of heart trouble. unofficially, carroll has never been brave enough to ask susan how peaceful it really was.
