Hunter Rose

“I’m not that good Nils, but im glad we are on the same page though about me working” Rose replied with a smile as she thought of her baking and how it has helped her cope with everything. She also thought of how much Nils seemed to enjoy it as well considering he was her taste tester most days and she normally left him a small dessert in his lunch that she brings him once a week. 

Magnus met his sister eyes with a small smirk, he knew what she was doing and he was glad that it seemed the little fiance was starting to crack under the pressure. He was curious as to why she was silent though, her parents most not approve or something. 

Rose could feel the eyes on her as she stayed silent, she could only imagine what they must be thinking about her the longer she stayed so quiet and closed off. She knew Nils could feel her through the bond all she wanted to do was hide away somewhere and cry or better yet just hug Nils and cry as he comforted her like he always did. Rose gave him a soft smile as she nodded, she gave off a more relaxed emotion to reassure him that he had said the right thing though she knew that her conversation with Gunner later would lead to the story of their death. 

When Astrid had heard why the poor woman was so silent and closed off tot he question her heart broke. To be so young and to lose your family is terrible and to not have them for something as important ad your wedding especially as this is something little girls dream about it hurts her. “I am truly sorry for your loss dear” Aunt Astrid said with a sad look to Rose. 

“Well-” Maeve huffed, her lips thinning together. She had suspected Rose was hiding something, but when her older brother Nils stepped in to save her once again she certainly hadn’t been expecting the girl to have the sob story of the decade. “I certainly didn’t know that. You should have told me something Nils, that way I wouldn’t have pried so hard.  I’m not a monster.”

“I did say something.” Nils replied curtly. Maeve’s efforts to avoid blame didn’t concern him as much as Rose did. He stood up to move toward Rose’s side, uncaring how he looked to the rest of his family. “Rose, my darling, I hope I haven’t said too much when it was not my story to share.”  He rested a hand on her hip, looking down at her gently.

“And I would hate for you to leave your job as well. You would be depriving our lovely town of their foremost baker.” Nils grinned up at Rose. He’d tried a great many of her baked goods, and was often her first taste tester when she was making something new. He had great confidence in her abilities and loved how happy it seemed to make her.

“Well I for one am excited to taste this desert.” Gunnar said with a smile as he sat. As if he were somehow the only one that would appreciate Rose’s skill, and his older brother hadn’t just gone to length complimenting her. 

“You’ll have to finish your dinner before you skip straight to desert little brother.” Maeve said shortly, shooting her younger brother a look, then casting her eyes around to the the elder siblings. This was a look she shared with Magnus a lot, the kind that said ‘can you believe him. “I’m dying of curiosity Rose, why so suddenly silent.” Her chilling gaze made it back around the table to Nils’ fiance once again.

“Rose is-” Nils swallowed. He could feel the sudden surge of emotion, painful and urgent, coming off of Rose. There was nothing he wanted to do more than save her. Sweep her out of the room and kiss her in solitude, but that certainly wasn’t something he could get away with in the here and now. “If you must know, and I expect you must because you Maeve are more vulture like then I. Rose’s family has passed and it is a difficult thing to talk about so I hope you will respect our wishes and no longer needle her.” He looked up at Rose, wary expression, hoping he hadn’t said too much.

“Oh, of course that’s right you’re baking. I remember one of you telling me of your fondness for it.” Maeve smiled thinly, happy that all her answers could be answered now in front of her brothers and Aunt. This would save her having to repeat herself later.

“Baking? Oh Rosie do promise me that you will surprise us with something sweet and baked up with love for desert.” Gunnar grinned looking toward Rose. He already seated himself, prepared to be the first person to take a serving of the soup.

“Please!” Nils pursed his lips and looked over his family. “If you would please to stop interrogating my fiance and simply sit down so we can eat and enjoy ourselves as a family.”  He held out the chair for Aunt Astrid to sit first, before he ladled out a serving or soup for her. “Can’t we simply enjoy ourselves?”

“That reminds me.” Maeve said, not missing a beat or minding her brothers little bout of nagging. She lifted her head to look imperiously at Rose. “We’re eating as a family now, but Rosie dear, when will we get a chance to meet your family? I am very curious to see your people”

“Yes i manage a bakery in town, its something I love doing and i would hate to leave my job.” Rose replied to Maeve with a smile as she explain her job to her and the family. Rose turned and smiled at Gunner who had seated himself on the other side of her, “Yes i have something made for desert, so you will get to try my baking” 

When Rose heard Maeve’s next question her heart stopped she knew this was going to come up at some point but she didn’t expect it to be so soon, she took a breath to try and calm herself and to keep the memories away. No matter how hard she tried those memories were so easy to come back, of what happened to them and how they suffered. She knew Nils could feel her through their bond this was one of the few times she was not trying to hide it from him.

“She left a considerable impression.” Nils interjected into the story of how they met. Although he hardly needed to as Rose was doing a wonderful job. It wasn’t the easiest sort of thing to share with family, considering the turbulant circumstances. “Now this is a wonderful idea Aunt Astrid. I’ll bring the food.” He set about doing just that, making sure to gather up enough trivets and pot holders for the hot soup.

“Ahah! Now you have me curious about these circumstances but I will wait until after we eat. That smells far too good for my mouth to be occupied by conversation.” Gunnar kept smiling. Choosing not to help set up the dinner and just becoming the unofficial door holder. However, seeing Nils’ home was more open concept there wasn’t a whole lot for him to do so he ended up mostly standing around with his hands in his pockets. 

“If you are done with your questions little brother then I have a few of my own.” Maeve moved easily around the table setting a place for everyone, hardly a hair our of place since she shifted back to human form. “Rose, is this what you intend to do after you’re married? Cooking and keeping house? Or are you a career woman of some sort?”

Rose laughed a tiny bit after Nils made his interjection about the story because it was true she did leave quite an impression considering she had him at knife and arrow point most of the time. “yes tha’ is probably ah good idea, don’t want to ruin anyone’s appetite now do we” Rose said with a smirk giving Gunner a bit more to think on and get excited about as her accent came out a bit more now that she had relaxed a bit. Rose soon found herself helping set up the table with Maeve, even though she wasn’t that hungry due to the nauseousness she was feeling she still needed to eat to keep appearances up. 

Rose was a bit surprised Maeve had questions as she could have asked them at any point during her stay before they had arrived but rose was willing to answer them. “Though i do not mind staying home and keeping house i would prefer to work and keep my job at the bakery” Rose replied smoothly as she sat down at the table with he rest of them, sure that was not the career she had wanted not by far given that she was to go to collage to become a dancer that dream was out of the question now and she was happy baking. Though there is her father’s company she could run as well but she didn't know much about it hence why her father board was managing it now for her and she still got money from it.

“Thank you Aunt Astrid. You are correct, she’s made me very happy. Whoever she reminds you of I am sure is exceptional.” Nils beamed, his eyes back on Rose. He thought Astrid must be thinking of a friend from her own life, and hadn’t given it a second thought. Although perhaps it was Rose had one of those faces, as she’d seemed familiar to him at first as well.

“Did he now? Hah!” Gunnar clapped his hands together, laughing freely as he pat Rose on the shoulder. What was to be the first of many absent minded touches he planned to share with Rose. “Did he fly with his full black vulture regalia? He can be very intimidating can he not? Such a big bird and such a bad omen. I heard that you were human. Did that scare you to find out what he is?” Gunnar’s smirk grew lopsided as he fired out questions from all sides. Ignoring his older siblings looks, both Nils and Maeve, as they glared and frowned at him.

“Magnus I’m so glad that I’m not the only one in the Ravn family that’s lost my head. As exciting as Nils and his young bride may be. I’m starved.” Finding the soup bowls she gathered up a few in her hands. “Should we go bothering moving to the dining room or just eat here in the kitchen?”

Rose was starting to like Gunner, he reminded her of her brothers. “Actually i didn’t find out about that part of him till later that day, though i didn't actually see him till much later.” Rose explained with a small smile as she remembered the first time he showed her his form and how beautiful she thought he looked. “Yes i am human, to be honest when he told me i didn’t know how to respond given the circumstances but he explained and it didn't bother me anymore” Was all Rose said on the matter as she remembered how frightened she was when he said he was a shifter and having no idea they different then werewolves and then much later finding out that she wasn't completely human as her mother was a shifter.

“It couldn’t possibly my dear Auntie Astrid. Even I couldn’t forget you. It was only that I didn’t want to put the whole family out and come to America. If I knew you were able to come with such little trouble I would have invited you forthwith.”  Nils smiled so warmly at his elderly aunt. “But I already know and love you my Auntie, the person who I am excited for you to meet is Rosalie, my fiance.” Nils turned to look behind at Rose, smiling until he saw Gunnar sidled up close to Rose.

“Since the day you met? Now that sounds like an interesting story Rosie. Was it love at first sight for you two lovebirds, or was my older brother Nils the same taciturn prude he always was?” Gunnar smirked, stepping closer and leaning more intently toward Rose. Maeve just sighed and rolled her eyes in the background.

“Has everyone forgotten about dinner besides myself?” Maeve started rifling through the cabinets to find where they kept the bowls.

“You know i would have done anything to be here Nils, all of us would have just to see you happy again” Astrid said with a smile as she looked at her favorite nephew. Her attention then turned to the woman that he looked at with such love and devotion, the same look he once gave Klara. “She’s beautiful Nils, she’s good for you, i can tell...though she reminds me of someone i just can’t place who” Astrid said with a soft smile to Nils as she looked at the girl no woman in front of her. 

“It is a very interesting story indeed, you could say he flew in to my life and hasn’t left since” Rose said with a smirk as she remembered the day they met quite vividly, she remember threatening him with her trusty knife as well as trusting him as she bled out. When She heard Nils mention her name she looked over and gave him a smile, “It is very nice to meet you ma’am, Nils had told me so much about you”

“Aunt Astrid!” Nils couldn’t have been happier to see her in the moment, especially as she put a damper on Gunnar’s (completely inappropriate) teasing. “So glad to see you’ve made it safely. From the way my siblings acted I would have thought we’d forgotten you.” He smiled widely and steped away from Rose, after giving her one gentle squeeze before he crossed the room to Astrid. Taking his elderly aunt’s hands in his he kissed them gently, as a shifter she managed age better than any human. “I am glad you could make it.”

“No thanks to you of course.” Gunnar just had to but in, his eyes half lidded and not even focused on Nils or Astrid. “It was Maeve who brought us all together.” He smiled slowly, moving closer to Rose now that Nils had left her all alone. He extended his hand with a warm smile. “Pleasure to meet you Rose, I do hope my brother has been taking care of you.” He turned his head to Magnus, giving a little nod of acknowledgement. “I think I might have found my someone to talk to.”

“As if they could forget me, that simply wouldn't happen” Astrid said to her favorite nephew with a smile she could tell how much happier he was now. “Of course i would make it, i wouldn't miss this Nils though i am a bit mad that you didn't invite me in the first place” Astrid said with a frown at her young nephew but it changed just as quickly as it appeared. “But that’s in the past now, we are here together to celebrate this happy occasion. So are you going to introduce me to your fiance or just stand there?”

“Yes, it’s just as Magnus said. We’re simply watching over the food for you so we can all enjoy it in time.” Nils smiled gently over his approaching family. Though, considering one elderly body was missing he too was growing concerned over the absent Aunt Astrid.

“Magnus, Nils, and this lovely creature must be your fiance’s younger sister. How horrible of you to keep a beauty hidden away.” Gunnar brushe dthe sandy blond hair from his eyes as he breezed past Maeve. His only sister only frowning at him. “Speaking of hiding, where is this Rose I’ve heard so much about?”

“This is Rose.” It was Nils’ turn to frown at Gunnar, his arm tightening around Rose. The first hint of possessiveness he’d felt starting to rise in his belly.

Rose watched as the siblings interacted with each other, it reminded her of her and her own siblings being nice and civil but yet also being a bit mean. Rose did a quiet head count and she thought someone else was supposed to be joining them, she knew of Nils siblings coming but what about his aunt. 

Rose rolled her eyes an giggled as who she assumed was Gunner began to flirt with her, she did not mind it was harmless and her heart belonged to NIls but she could tell it was bothering him as she felt his arm tighten around her. She smiled and lifted up onto her feet to kiss his cheek hoping to relax him a tiny bit. “Its a pleasure to meet you Gunner” Rose said her accent coming out as she smiled at him. 

Magnus watched as his youngest brother flirted with Rose, he had a feeling this would happen and Nil’s should have too. He had a feeling that Gunner could be of more use then he realized especially if they wanted this to end Gunner could help he was younger and closer to the girls age.

“Yes, my sentiments exactly.” Nils smiled over at his older brother. He had the opportunity to discuss what Magnus said in Danish, but he didn’t take it. There was nothing Magnus said that he could refute nor did he want to. There were so many things he could have done better after Klara had been attacked and fell into her current state, and he’d done none of them and had to bear the consequences. At least the sound of Rose’s welcoming, her voice sweet and charming as he ever found it despite Magnus’ dour take on her. 

“Speaking of the rest of the family, from the smell of things dinner is almost ready. I should-” Nils never got the chance to finish his thought before the sound of Maeve entering the back door shut him up. She always had to make an event out of every time she made an entrance.

“Nils, Magnus, my darling brothers you’re not keeping this delicious smelling food to yourselves are you? Gunnar and I are so lonely out here.”

“And I’m Rose Donovan, It’s nice to meet you Magnus” Rose said with a smile as she introduced herself to his older brother with a smile, her accent ever present. Rose tried not to make a face when Maeve entered the home, she knew it was her as she had gotten used to Maeve making an entrance every time she come into the house.

“Then I must also apologize. I should not have been so scare.” Nils for his part looked properly shamed by Magnus’ words. “After Klara, after what happened with her you must understand why it was so difficult to think of anything back in Denmark. It was so much easier to start anew. Still, I know-” He shook his head, then remembered Rose was still in the room and overhearing their conversation in danish. He smiled at her, then back up at Magnus. “I should not have ignored my family like that. I am sorry.”

“Well, Rose and I are happy to welcome you to our home.” Nils switched back to English, and smiled down at Rose again.

Rose smiled up at Nils, she wondered why he stopped short all of a sudden but she didn't dwell to much on it, she was more worried about the other family members that were due to come in any moment now. “Yes we are, and i hope you enjoy your stay while you are here” Rose said to Magnus with a smile even though she already knew they probably weren’t going to get along. 

Rose smiled as they kissed a few seconds longer before breaking apart for air. A soft blush appeared on her cheeks as she just stayed in his arms, she looked around when she saw that Nils had spoken to someone. Finally her eyes landed on the older man who must be Nils older brother, she gave him a small embarrassed smile before looking down. Her eyes went wide as she heard what nils said it took all her strength to not laugh.

“And it appears you have as well dear brother, she seems a bit young don’t you think?” Magnus says back in danish, if his brother wanted to play that game then he could play as well. “At least you haven’t lost your touch in the kitchen i see” Magnus said as he smelled the air in the kitchen.

Nils rolled his shoulders, standing upright as he stared down his brother–affronted. He kept his arm around Rose’s shoulder, protective and affectionate in the face of Magnus’ judgement.

Rose giggled again before kissing him back, she missed these kisses. The ones that showed all the emotion and and passion in them. Rose stayed in his arms the whole time she didn’t want to break the kiss or leave his arms.

Magnus watched for the doorway, he wondered when his brother became so sappy. Maybe it was the new wife but he can definitely see what Maeve meant by young, she looked like she was young enough to be his daughter. He had no idea what goes on in his brothers head anymore maybe its the formaldehyde fumes finally getting to him.

Nils relished those giggles, he especially liked it when her mouth seemed to flutter around his own. Any sign that Rose was happy delighted Nils, doubly so when he was the cause of this happiness. His tongue slipped into her mouth, just barely swiping over her open mouth. He pulled back with a sigh for some air, about ready to toss the whole kitchen chores aside and just pick her up onto the counter and make out like they were a pair of teenagers until they were interrupted.

Rose giggled a bit as she heard her talk to basically no one. She just smiled and enjoyed the closeness of them hugging, she just felt so much calmer and relaxed even the smell of his cologne made her feel more at home. Rosalie had missed this so much since his sister had arrived, she always felt like she was being watched so she never got to enjoy time with Nils unless they were about to go to bed. “I wont ever stop giving them then” Rose said as she stayed in his arms enjoying it.

Nils oldest brother was done flying for now he wanted to meet Nils new wife, whom his sister had told him is very young. After hearing that he was even more curious, once inside he looked around for them, then home was alot bigger then he expected but it would do. He soon found them hugging in the kitchen, he chose not to say anything but just observe from the doorway.

“I Iike that idea alot, besides you have to help me in the kitchen remember?” Rose said with a blush when he kissed the top of her head. She loved having him close to her he always kept her calm and relaxed. Smiling Rose took his hand and lead him to the kitchen for a bit more quiet time before the family came in. Once in the kitchen she hugged him, she wanted to just enjoy being in his arms for a bit without his family watching with preying eyes trying to dissect her every move

“The kitchen is very important. Very important things to do there.” He spoke as if his family on the other side of the glass could overhear them, but he didn’t bother to look. He followed closely behind Rose, after having his little sister in the house for so long he felt a bit starved for Rose’s closeness and affection that they had when they were completely alone. Like the hug she gave him, unexpected but warm and welcome. “My goodness Rosalie,” he hugged her back just as hard, pressing their bodies together, “I never tire of your hugs.”

“I’m sure i’ll be fine, you’ve made me danish recipes before remember” Rose replied with a small smile as she remembers all the dishes hes made her as well as the ones her own mother and grandmother made her. The brunette calmed once she felt Nils hand on her back, it helped her remember that she wasn’t going at this alone and that Nils was going to be by her side. “I had noticed love, but they are not inside as of yet so im enjoying the quiet” Rose said feeling kinda bad for saying it but she meant it ever since Maeve arrived its been a bit interesting around their home.

“It’s just a simple potato soup, my darling. An old family recipe that is sure to delight this crowd we’re hosting at least. Very danish so I hope it won’t be too European for your palate.” Nils smiled as he looked down at Rose, his hand caressing her from his shoulder along her arm till he moved and rested it on the small of her back. “My family has already arrived actually, my love.” Nils lifted his head to look outside their large back windows to the ‘murder’ of crows gathered in the back. They cawed happily and hopped from lawn furniture. “That’s them darling, right outside and being rude of all things.”
