We consider the importance of a curatorial statement within exhibitions. When applied to our audio callout, this may be more vital than first anticipated. Itâs how we translate the exhibitionâs original question. With the nature of the proposed exhibit we need the audience to be aware of our thoughts and ideas before they view the works. This is especially important with presenting online and itâs how we get that statement across in an accessible way without diluting the exploration itself.

When writing this callout we had three things in mind; extensive collaboration, challenging a set of visually dominant platforms and growth in ourselves as practicing artists/curators. We are looking to talk to artists on a deeper level about their practice and work, creating dialogues that can lead to a collaborative and intimate digital exhibit. This about being a part of something organic, more than just put your work on our page. We want to tackle a problem and find solutions, we want to learn and grow our knowledge on audio-based art. We want to talk to individuals more actively about how they would present as an artist whose practice is being shown. We want to know whether there are platforms we as a collective could access to make it more inclusive for all disciplines. We can't stress enough that this is about growth and learning. We don't want to just put you on our platforms, we would like you to become a part of the platform and have taken part in a project that isn't just simply making a post for you on the day. EVERYTHING we have said is up for discussion with the artists, that is how we want it to be, we want you to challenge us and tell us whether there is a better way! We cannot stress enough, we are not asking for you to just come, show work and tell your audiences about us. This is a collaboration, in some ways a group show discussing how it is that we present audio online without having to have a nice picture to go with it! This is not just going on Instagram we are challenging multiple platforms; Websites, Tumblr and Instagram.

We are looking for audio based artists or those who are experimenting with this medium, to take part in a 5 day âresidencyâ. We are asking for a minimum of 5 audio works from 6 artists to post on our Instagram, website and Tumblr over weeksâ period, resulting in 30days of purely audio work.

Is there a bigger art platform than Instagram? Is it the best place with the opportunities it provides?

If we are told all throughout our art school experience that social media is the newest and most effective marketing tool for ourselves and that we should all be posting our work online on platforms such as Instagram, how are we to stand out from the rest?
Disclaimer- We donât hate Instagram at all! What weâre about to say and what we have focused on is an artist's perspective, and we currently find ourselves at a wall in terms of the variety and quality of content we can produce on this platform in particular. We fancy having a rant about it because itâs relevant to the current state of social platforms for artists mostly, and these thoughts are very much going through our heads NOW.
With Instagram being such a two dimensional platform, ideal for posting still imagery, how does this work for different disciplines that may not focus on a final image? Yes, we can use video as well as still imagery, however this still only offers things to a certain limit. How do people show, for example, theoretical practice through still or video based imagery? Itâs restrictive and it forces them into parameters that may not suit their way of thinking or exhibiting. The obvious thing some might say is donât be on Instagram then, but I think that is simply disregarding the point. Instagram could offer these platforms for writers and critics in the same way Tumblr offers a range of media all to be posted on one feed. Instagram now being what it is, it's not out of their reach to simply offer some small design changes that in the long run will bring in more users, and more artists in turn creating a bigger network of multidisciplinary artists.

There is no official date of authorship as i have had these thoughts and feelings for far too long unaddressed and undigested.
I am in a state of constant disruption
I work hard and dedicate time to my practice
However I'm financially unsupported
I am told this won't happen until Iâm establishedÂ
When will I be âestablishedâ?
Am I âestablishedâ when I feel âestablishedâ?
Or is it down to those that control the institutions
And those with an engaging audience?Â
It disheartens me to know that these feelings may hold true
I can no longer be a cog in the machine
 The thought of an algorithm drains me of all life
So when do I become âestablishedâ?

How many options do we have for posting visual arts online before all forms become exhausted? Weâre working on a lot more writing based content for the near future with the options available to us for presenting being a lot more varied than with visuals.
What next? Weâve been thinking about the ideas of where social media can take us and what they offer as a site. What platform is best or most relevant? And how does one stand out from the crowd?What do you think?

Why is it that every week there seems to be a new digital gallery or a fresh art platform based around social media presence and building an âonline audienceâ?
Disclaimer- We are aware that the examples given in this article have been done in some places previously, what we aim to highlight and discuss is the lack of consistency and the impact it could have had if these had been utilised to the fullest all along.
