The one and only real **[whurley](http://www.chaoticmoon.com/company/people/whurley/)** visited [the factory](http://www.creativefactory.nl) the week before the previous week for an interview by [OMT](http://www.onemorething.nl). Obviously having such a guru in the office building we refer to as "home" couldn't go unnoticed which urged a Suprnovaen to feel free to "pick the genius brain" prior to the interview. Truth be told... The [fellow](http://www.chaoticmoon.com/company/people/whurley/) is awesome, his [company](http://chaoticmoon.com) is crazy and his products are "beyond". [He](http://www.chaoticmoon.com/company/people/whurley/) does epitomize innovation and in light of that statement you would understand that Master Inventor and [International Genius](http://ciaobasta.com/2012/11/23/appsterdam-international-genuis-grant-2012-will-hurley/) accolades, among the many others, are hard earned and well deserved. As for us, we've been honored by his presence, his humility and willingness to teach and inspire. We have also fed of the powers radiated from his aura. Yes! We've seriously drawn some of the awesome he uncontrollably radiates wherever he goes -- awesome overdose!
_Entrepreneur is French for Fool_ was the [Bubbleconf](http://bubbleconf.com) 2012 talk title for the illustrious [Mike Lee](https://twitter.com/bmf). The video is chuck-full of Mike's interesting take on the early 21th century startup universe.
Apes Killed Mars is supporting Cal, a Dutch rapper, as live band during de Grote Prijs van Nederland (the wiki description of the event is to be found he-ya) music competitions. We've had the privilege of helping the band out with a fitting tumblr theme and a funky logo.
The Rules.

Letβs skip the smalltalk, letβs get to business. Lately Iβve been taking a lot of udemy/coursera/udx courses and Iβve always been either, doodling in a carbon-based notebook or writing form-less text files on my computer. Gradually I started using Markdown but with the significance of math in my line of work, expressing concepts through mathematical notation is a indispensable luxury. Iβve always been forced to jump to TeX if I really felt the need to get technical and I still think that TeX is awesome but just a couple of minutes ago I bumped into pandoc whilst roaming around the internet in my quest for something more convenient.
Input notes by writing Markdown, add some formulas by enclosing them within the TeX-ish dollar signs and pandoc it into whatever you really want, a TeX file, a PDF, a HTML file or maybe even a Word Document (my least favorite). Bliss!!!
I guess the best way to experience its awesomeness is by installing pandoc and playing with some of itβs awesome features.
As for me?!? Iβm in love. My notebooks are disappearing in a box and Iβm going pandoc. Iβve already rewritten pretty much all of my notes, and my Makefiles are ready to generate whatever my heart craves at the push of a button.
Thank you, John MacFarlane.
Iβm still amped from BubbleConf last Friday in Tuschinksy, Amsterdamβ¦ Iβve heard the illustrious Mike Lee speak (like a demigod) and chatted (2 or 3 sentences) with the notorious Zed A. Shaw (served a talk like a heavyweight boxer) after which Iβve googled these giants like crazy the last few days.
After a refreshing weekend rehashing some knowledge from that dusty chest Iβm back on my coding grind. Yup this weekend Iβve read Learn Python the Hard Way (Zed A. Shaw), done all the exercises and started delving into the web2py documentation. I already knew Python which is the reason why I was able to work through this book in 2 days, but youβd be amazed at how much things you kinda forget after long periods of coding in other languages. In retrospect itβs probably a good practice to flip through some programming guides/books now and then to (re)discover some hidden gems (as long as you try ideas right awayβ¦ practice, practice, practice).
Currently Iβm totally in love with web2py. It is probably one of the most coder-friendly full stack frameworks Iβve bumped my head against and itβs written in one of the most elegant languages ever.
IMHO⦠no facts⦠just opinions. Just needed to get that out.
Iβm also making considerable progress on a couple of Android apps (prototypes) Iβm coding, and Iβve had my first encounters with Objective C.
But that would explain why Iβm amped. Iβm learning a lot, discovering great tools, bumping into legends and looking forward to a adventurous future. Also have a couple of themesongs from my Spotify playlist banging on my eardrums. Iβm feeling like the protagonist from a filmβ¦ my own movie :D β Iβm kinda nutsβ¦ soo nuts, but who gives a hoot.
back to codingβ¦
Stimuli from every direction. In any direction you venture from our office, something inspiring awaits...
At last -- we're home! We've been living in our temporary spot for about 1 and a half week and have moved into our real office about a couple of minutes ago. We're popping a couple of brews with our neightbors on friday to get acquainted. On the 7th of october we'll be having our first Suprbash during which we'll be presenting the driving forces, the envisioned goals and the odd ducklings which drive Suprnovae. Check the facebook event. I'd be there if I were you \*wink\*.
One of our Suprnovaens has just earned those electronics engineering stripes and is currently considering taking some Computer Science courses just for the heck of it -- if he's actually going to do it is another thing but "consider it, he does".

We've had our eyes set on this collosus of a building with a intriguing [history](http://www.rotterdam010.nl/104-Overzicht-04/03/S-Graansilo-Brielselaan-13-08-2008-01.html). In the midst of the south district of this inspiring city, a building that once served as a grain silo houses a squad of creative creatures. We've just signed the contract to dwell among these kindred spirits.
A couple of 1 hour mock-up designs for the fictitious fashion designer Eleanne Krauss. The Didot typeface has been used to recreate the classical feel familiar to fashion-related design work. The placement of the elements and the dark background have been as such to keep the layout uncluttered. The botanic touch is purely because Eleanne is that fond of trees and since she's fictitious we can pretty much say anything about her. The images have been pulled from a [Flickr gallery](http://www.flickr.com/photos/86411706@N02/galleries/72157631370751286/) containing some photographs published for use in accordance to the terms stated in the Creative Commons license (read the caption for each image for the proper attributions).
Well we've spend a full day last week to work on the designs for the ApesKilledMars website. Another couple of precious hours have been spend working on a few mock-up designs for other projects but let's focus on the Apes now.
1:45 AM and someone's still whipping code for buki.co -- refactoring and testing the codebase before introducing new features.
Did our first round of officespace scouting. Had a look at the Creative Factory in Rotterdam -- interesting crowd, amazing energy, fascinating history... all-in-all good vibes.

The first glimpse from one of the designs for **buki.co**.
We have just registered our very own shortlink, urlhack, if you will, which should make finding us online much easier for you. It is most likely known to you that a [supernovae](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernova) is a rather impressive stellar explosion. We're extremely fond of things that cause big bangs and therefore chose this name to suggest that we intend to influence our surroundings in a similar fashion. The word's etymology leads us to the Latin *Super* and *Novae* and our buzzing minds decided that *nu*, pronounced as "new", would be the perfect [TLD](http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CHsQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTop-level_domain&ei=2FcZUPmrIaSw0QWngIGACQ&usg=AFQjCNFYU4sAWnJaH97RRqBDXOIoZibEtg&sig2=G73yXT1v7z1tAI0uHxSKdg) in our case. Our name is comprised of the latin *super* meaning "above, beyond" and *novae* meaning "new" and now you can find us online by using the [URL](http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CHkQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FUniform_resource_locator&ei=R6IZUJWpKufD0QX6zYGICw&usg=AFQjCNFVKoOa_HlcuDeUu8wYS_g70me4Kw&sig2=JJOoSyQnKSAFVLiIfeOi2w) "supr dot new". **http://supr.nu** -- You have to admit... that is *supr* awesome!
