Dear Neil. Sometimes I think about the strength you must have to answer the fans' questions, I know that a lot has to do with marketing, but it must be tedious, and it must demotivate you a little from your work. Not only you but also the actors. Thanks for the patience.
It's really not about marketing. That's why I like Tumblr, I think. It's too small for marketing. It only works if it's for fun.
I will be the last one here when they finally turn off the lights, because Tumblr is *only* fun for me, in no small part because the Industry Machine hasn't polluted Tumblr the way it has all the other social networks.
I think that's because the Venn Diagram of Weird Tumblr and Not Weird Tumblr is a perfect circle we call a hellsite, and the marketing dweebs are so confounded by what we do here, they focus on other, more predictable, social networks.
I've read about the demise of Weird Twitter around 2016 (gasp), how once Twitter stopped being a safe place to be weird, it rapidly became what it is, now. Interesting people tend to be weird. Creative people tend to be weird. We who love those people tend to be weird, and we like to be around people who reflect our vibe back to us. Why would any of us stick around in a Nazi club full of Incels when we can hang out here and remember the first time we saw Goncharov, or how the Feast of Neil Gaiman is celebrated in our homes.
Oh, and fuckin' WONDER WOMAN brings her loving, supportive, I am your mom and I love you unconditionally energy to every single post. She's the only Tumblr I follow with alerts turned on, because I always feel uplifted after I read something from her.
And Tumblr is maybe the only place on the entire Internet where I can be the best Becky I can be.
That doesn't even touch on all the art and fanfic and vintage photos and the endless stream of Debbie Harry that comes across my dash.
If you're part of the reason I am here, part of the reason Tumblr is special, thank you.
You made me cry, Becky. ❤️
*ok, but what is Jake's stragle?*
Every part, Everywhere (all at once).
one thing you won't know until you experience it for yourself when you create art out of love is how it feels when people receive it with love. when you post a doodle and someone keeps it as their lockscreen, or when you write a story and someone tells you they were thinking about it all day, or when you post a poem and someone shares it with a touching caption. doesn't matter if it was objectively good or not. matters that someone spent time with it, that someone really, really liked it, and you made it. this kind of interaction, i think, it can really sustain you for weeks. it can sustain you through a lot of terrible things. its confirmation that you exist, and that (however briefly) your existence was appreciated by someone else through your art.

I love how despite the claim that Beau is "not a worrier", we had that "delightful" bit of panic during the solstice where they are BOTH worrying lol
And then we have Caleb/Liam providing a lampshade of how often he sees them worried for each other.
For sure, I totally agree!
I think that Beau is very good at hiding her worry, which lends to her ability to not seem "weak" or vulnerable in front of potential foes. Only in safety of those she can trust does she allow herself to openly worry, like Caleb.
I actually find that in general, Beau isn't overly worried about Yasha - not because she does not care of course, but because she knows Yasha can handle herself. I mean, she knows Yasha is pretty much unkillable. And with them both taking frontline roles in combat, they need to have the mutual trust in each other to take care of themselves. Personally, I love that about them and think it's a healthy mindset to have, as opposed to something which could be more of a codependent "I cannot be away from you or you won't be safe" mentality.
What's interesting about that moment of worry in Echoes of the Solstice is that imo, Beau senses that something very bad and potentially world-altering is happening. Her first thought is a need to get back to Yasha. Not necessarily because she thinks Yasha is in danger, but because shit is going down, and there is an impulse to be with the person she cares most about in the world. Then if the world falls apart afterwards, so be it, but she has to be with Yasha for whatever comes next - everything else comes secondary.
Apologies for the wordsoup! Your ask sparked some thoughts that have been swimming in my brain! Thank you for sharing.

tbh shoutout to the over 40s on tumblr, sorry the internet acts like yall belong in the retirement home when ur literally just regular adults with hobbies
I was going to leave comments in the tags, but I decided this was important enough to put on main.
In college, my friend group collectively got into the SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism. They're the people who get really into medieval reenactment, the fighting and crafts and cooking, they have kings and queens and knights and events and a good percentage of them (but not all!) work or have worked at Ren Faires.
I am forever grateful my friends dragged me into that, because it was my first introduction to fandom in older adults. Middle-aged dorks. Elderly nerds. Absolutely as intense and weird and hilarious and fun as any fan in their teens or 20s. I started getting into fandom already knowing there was a road ahead for me as I got older, full of handmade costumes and late night movies and shelves of pewter dragon goblets and mixed-aged road trips to meet ups and conventions.
And it kills me that so many people don't know that sort of community even exists. On both sides, even! I went to Philcon a few years ago, which tends towards older fans, and an older woman I was talking to sadly told me that she thought fandom was dying out, because she never saw younger fans any more.
Over the past decade, there's been a really toxic movement towards keeping different ages strictly separated, both in and outside of fandom. There's this strong implication that if an older person wants to interact with a younger person, there is something inherently predatory about that.
Yeah, that attitude sucks. That drive towards separation and puritanism sucks. Declaring that younger people should have nothing to look forward to and that older people should stay separated and lonely sucks. It sucks and we are all worse for it.
Don't fear age. Don't put an age limit on having fun. Give yourself a damn future.
Beverly passed away in 2019, but she was one of many of my favorite, elder cosplayers that frequent DragonCon and remind all of us to keep playing as long as we can.
