Supes and Wondy are āmetasā, āsupersā, not normal people but with extraordinary abilities and powers. Yet, when it comes to their relationship, they behave like every normal human would around each other. Yes, arguably a thousand feet above ground, but anyway.
On the contrary, when they are with theirĀ ātraditionalā, preordained human love interests, it is the human who the writers make look like something special, like being witter, better at their jobs, always with a sassy retort in their lips, smarter in some way than the meta and with some ability or characteristic which puts them above average human beings, even above their meta partners. The super must be dumbed down in order to coexist with that human and itās not able to do the things he/she normally would. And this isnāt a casual happenstance, this Ā is a permanent situation: it happens all the time. All.The.Time. Which makes the humans not special, but annoying. Itās like the writers are constantly sayingĀ āHey! But this is not any human. Look at what he/she can do!ā.Ā
I compare it with what we all think when we see a man with an extraordinary car. Yes, we all think heās trying desperately to compensate for something small in his life. His ego, of course! ;-). Same here: writers want to overcompensate for the obvious shortcomings the human has when compared to the super and they end up being too predictable. They force the situation to ridiculous degrees, like when Batso makes his disappearing trick in front of people with enhanced senses, people who can hear a caterpillar walking a dozen miles away, and everybody seems baffledĀ āOooh! Where did he go! Itās magic!ā. Itās not magic, itās stupid.
Speaking of overcompensating, have you ever noticed Batso canāt do anything normally, like having sex on a bed? Heās got to do it on a rooftop, on a stormy night (every time she climaxes, a thunder strikes) , surrounded by flying bats and in the middle of āworkingā hours. Masked, of course. A kidās idea of coolness.
Back to making my point. When a couple ofĀ āsupersā are together, specially when Clark and Diana are, we have so much more resemblance of ānormalityā than when they are with a human love interest, not because of themselves, but because theĀ ānormalā people must be constantly put on a pedestal to be able to belong within the life of the meta. To me, this makes for rather boring and repetitive reading. It may be funny once or twice, but not always.
