Big Sun, Christophe Chassol’s brilliantly-dazzling fourth album, crowns his trilogy of ultrascores (a method he elaborated for harmonizing, symphonizing real life, the ‘here and now’), which started out in Creole-speaking New Orleans (Nola Chérie, 2011) before pursuing its route through India (Indiamore, 2013).

Sour Soul is the collaborative album from Toronto jazz/hip-hop bandBADBADNOTGOOD and Staten Island rap champ Ghostface Killah. Inspired by 1960s and 70s music - taking inspiration from the recording techniques and production of that era, and eschewing sampling in favour of live instrumentation, BBNG with producer Frank Dukes have created a dramatic, cinematic musical staging for Ghostface’s vivid storytelling.

Reigle has an unblushing love for old, grainy horror movies and while Barrow is a slow-burn love-letter to that obsession, it’s also an archive of his past and a journal of the life he currently possesses.

Kosmische Musik- meet German 1990s Indie Electronica concept album evolves around the idea of creating a new, home-like place to live, through a tough process, without the guarantee to succeed. Terraforming develops from the dawn of Techno and Electronica towards exciting melodic textures that could well be the soundtrack of some Armageddon sci-fi movie from the early 1980s.

Lustmore is loosely based on the experience of hypnogogia, a transitional state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. Listeners familiar with his 2011 debut, Nostalchic, will know that Stuart Howard’s woozy, infectious rhythms, enveloping textures and unfamiliarly familiar melodies conjure that territory perfectly.

Every year anew, during the Rauhnächte (those harsh nights between Christmas and Twelfth Day), the Wild Hunt (Die Wilde Jagd) rides across the country: raucous, jeering hunters from the netherworld, whose path it is better not to cross. This is an ancient Germanic myth, which, in slightly varied form, is known in many parts of Europe and whose name Ralf Beck and Sebastian Lee Philipp have aptly chosen for their new project.

Escape From Evil is a cinematic, tonally rich work. The sounds are clean and warm. The pulse of the album is strong. Melodies are potent and songs are physical.
