We continue with “The thing with the balcony” is a resource taken from Superman with Lois of course, and that has been used in other audiovisuals and comics, although not only the balcony if it does not roof too. The fact here is that it’s something iconic of Supergirl and Lena too (I might even say I like theirs better) over the seasons we’ve seen Supergirl come in through the balcony over and over again (What surprises me is that she still uses it after Kara has already revealed her identity (Does she really not know that there are doors and elevators to go to Lena’s office like someone normal? ) I mean the identity resource is logical and that’s why the balcony, but if you’re going to continue with the parallelism with Clois you should leave the platonic because it doesn’t make any sense, because it’s a pretty romantic thing and the fact that they use it is like a reading between the lines that they are related in a romantic way (Then CW takes two steps back mentioning on each occasion that they are just friends, because of course with these aspects you have to convince the audience that nothing can be romantic, because you know it has the word friend in front of it)
We have something else, the Clark/Superman and Lois scenes recreated of course with Supergirl/Kara and Lena. I think this is one of the things I decided to do these for, being more specific for the one about the plane to Kaznia in season 4, I mean it’s a decal from the 1978 Superman scene, about the bent glasses of Clark/Kara, Lois/Lena worrying about the clumsy journalist and Clark/Kara saying about how they must have passed out, it’s ridiculously funny, but revealing. This kind of thing is planned and doing it is even insulting because of the way they handle their relationship. Scenes like the one in 5x13 where Lena attacks Kara are similar to Superman 1037 Novaro, but just a reference, however, should be noted, there is also this other scene in Smallville Clark tries to save Lois and this one tells her to let go, it’s similar to the scene of the chemical plane with Supergirl and Lena, it’s something to note as well. And so suddenly we have several scenarios like that.
I think there’s a problem here with CW, about how he’s handling this, there’s no such deep relationship apart from Alex that Kara has, nothing that resembles it, because Kara’s most important canonical relationship romantically has been Mon-El and we know that there’s no such depth (besides the fact that Kara clarified several things about their relationship and that even though he wanted to redeem himself (because of his jerk behavior in season 2) they didn’t last long enough to be real partners or confidants and didn’t really get to know each other, it was a quick rush and that’s not how you love someone, that’s not how love works, love takes time, that’s how falling in love works (they are different things and that’s over)
While we have these two women who have never told each other they love each other, but there is no need because actions show that they do, even their most painful and irrational actions, love is messy and selfish many times, and they have been through a lot, they have been partners (With both Kara’s identities) they have covered their backs and saved each other’s lives over and over again and have long been what they are, they fear for each other’s safety even if they are not on the same team. And yes, they’ve hurt each other, they’ve caused each other pain, but if the connection wasn’t so deep and ingrained in both of them it wouldn’t hurt so much, they wouldn’t suffer in a heartbreaking way as they did in season 5. So if we look at their entire history we will realize that they have a better foundation with romantic implications than many other canon couples (let’s be honest none of them would do everything they did for a friendship (I say I would, but I’ve been in love with my best friend for a long time so that would only confirm what I’m trying to say)). I mean, would they want to see other timelines? Would they want to change the past no matter what complications that would bring? Objectively speaking that is doubtful.
