STOP calling the main MCU timeline Earth-616! There can only he ONE (1) Earth-616, and the MCU is nothing like the main Marvel Comics timeline.
It's just Kevin Feige's narcissistic ass trying to make his verse sound like the most important one. 🙄
There are only three scenarios where I'd forgive Steve Rogers, or at the very least accept his return:
If Doom kills Peggy and their whole misbegotten family
If everything that happens in Doomsday is his fault for Endgame choice, and he finally has to pay the piper for stealing someone's life
If Endgame Steve was an imposter and the real Steve (and Sharon) has been stashed away by the Skrulls all this time, hence his haggard appearance
None of those things are likely to happen, so as far as I'm concerned, I'm seeing Dune Part 3 instead.

The MCU doesn’t care about anything except adapting hype, moments and aura all while massacring, your favorite characters and trying to label themselves 616 that’s not Dr. Doom and that’s not Steve Rogers that’s RdJ and that’s Chris Evan’s.
Steve’s character was dead to me the moment they made him go back in time during endgame just to dance and get married to a woman who already had a future.
Also, they genuinely think that throwing random superheroes together into one big event, makes it in avengers movie like avengers usually don’t have a set roster or a reserve group of members. If anything we should’ve had a low stakes avengers movie before this where Sam Wilson is Captain America, where he is recruiting new avengers who are going to be the main cast of avengers in the next giant avengers movie.
Dr. Doom should not be the main villain the main villain should have been kang the conqueror they should’ve recast it that role if any character is going to be tripping out about the time line being messed up and how it’s affecting the future it’s going to be him if you wanted a character to have a grudge against Steve, Rogers, and the rest of it’s going to be him.
Having Dr. doom as The main villain played by a non Romani man in a story where the fantastic four aren’t even the main driving force I already know it’s going to be ass this is nothing but slop nostalgia that everyone is going to eat up because they love hype moments and ora. They didn’t even try to have a real story here.
The MCU constantly gives us horrible and bad stories like I’m a person who believes that a adaptation doesn’t have to be one to one for it to be good because I believe you can still capture the essence of characters, but this is genuinely horrible. They’re constantly giving us bad movies and everyone just eats it up that’s why they’re so comfortablegiving us these low effort movies.
Tbh, at this point, citing "comic accuracy" to complain that XYZ isn't in the MCU is a lost cause and a frankly stupid complaint. The MCU has never ever cared about properly adapting the source material, lol. It's not going to start with whatever arc or era or concept you specifically want or heard of.
I wouldn't mind about their complete hatred for the source material if their canon would stick to the MCU. Instead the MCU is trying to claim they're 616, essentially setting themselves as equal canon to the actual canon universe, AND MCU synergy is damaging canon.
Like, I don't think adaptations should be 1:1 because that's lame and usually doesn't work out very well. I just want them to actually *be informed* by the thing they're supposedly adapting. I don't want them picking names and events out of a hat (which is something they literally did for the main MCU Moon Knight villain lol, Arthur Harrow is a one-appearance throwaway villain who Moon Knight never even personally encountered) and treating actual comic references like cute little easter eggs for brownie points (e.g. Jim Hammond or, back to the Moon Knight example, one of his earliest and more prominent villains, the Midnight Man). And then the MCU is just so much more accessible than the comics, so pop culture views the adaptation as the objective version, which is obnoxious when I'm trying to engage with the character that *I* like. For every 20 MCU Bucky posts in the main Bucky tag, there's 1 comic Bucky post, and that's on a good day. Fundamentally, they're completely different characters. The most that they have in common are the names Bucky and the Winter Soldier. I just want to be able to enjoy my thing, and MCU-comic conflation makes that difficult.
And then, like you mentioned, there's the synergy issue. Of my favorites, Bucky got hit the worst by the MCU synergy epidemic (Tigra & Toro aren't in the MCU, Jim's nothing more than a cameo, Moon Knight was and still is being written by Jed MacKay since before the show, and he usually cares about character continuity and accuracy). You can usually tell which comics are more informed by his MCU depiction by whether his eyes are brown or blue, but that's not foolproof (see the bronze age era stories where his eyes are colored blue for whatever reason). He's definitely not the *worst* victim of MCU synergy though. Usually he's *okay*, which means I'm lucky. He's not like, Tony Stark who is now just RDJ, or Kamala Khan who... no, I shan't say. I really just want them to give him back his short hair. I also the push to make Bucky generically (superhero level) tall & muscular when he should be normal human average height & lean. And shoutout to Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier which is a completely indecipherable comic that also straight up traces scenes from the Winter Soldier movie LOL.
It's at the point that I just don't want characters who I like (and who are not already in it) to be added to the MCU. Every time someone suggests putting Tigra in the MCU I shiver.
This perfectly encapsulate my entire problem with the MCU my issue isn’t that it’s not a one-to-one adaptation. It’s the way that they don’t even try to adapt the characters they’re adapting. I feel like you can make arcs for characters or you can switch certain stories around and you can still have the soul of the character, but I feel like the MCU doesn’t have that and it’s even worse because sometimes you’ll get a inkling of the character you fell in love with before it’s completely snatched away
I would tolerate the MCU more if it wasn’t so oversaturated and if I didn’t have to interact with a marvel fan base whose opinions are entirely informed by the MCU it’s genuinely so concerning because future marvel writers might not even try to read older comics or get to know these characters, they’ll only know through their MCU counterpart and it’s starting to show.
You can genuinely tell that Marvel as a brand thinks they’re doing something by trying to toss in MCU synergy like that’s going to make make people want to read comics more if anything it’s making the comic worse.

Once more, MCU fans are blindly talking about how they should have adapted Buckycap without realizing *why* Buckycap worked in the first place. I maintain that the Buckycap era was very much lightning in a bottle and worked for very specific reasons that are now impossible to recreate in the MCU. For as broad as it seems, it's actually an extremely specific concept.
When it comes down to it, Bucky just isn't a good choice for Captain America. He does a good enough job as Captain America, but when he's Cap, the role (and the attached symbolism) stagnate. We're not getting anything from Buckycap that we didn't already get from Steve Rogers. There's no development or notable change. It's another guy from the 1940s who missed out on most of the century, and there's no progress made.
Buckycap as a concept is more character-oriented than role-oriented, and that makes Bucky a fundamentally selfish Captain America (the exception to this being the What If? story where he & Cap don't go MIA in 1945 and Bucky eventually takes on the role of Cap with Rick Jones as his sidekick) because *he* is the one who benefits the most from it. And again, that's not to say that he is a bad Captain America by any means (and he's VERY far from the worst), but his motivations are, frankly, selfish (doesn't trust anyone to take up the role after Steve dies).
And, the specific reason that Buckycap *works* is because it's hot off the heels of the Winter Soldier arc, and it gives Bucky a noble goal to work towards while he stabilizes (because otherwise he would have gotten himself recklessly killed out of guilt and self-loathing). It works because it's character-driven, not an arbitrary choice. It's a very fun era and is some of Bucky's best modern characterization, but the conditions that need to be met are very specific.
That's the tl;dr of it all, at least lol. There's a lot more detail to it that I could go into but I'm not up to writing a Buckycap essay right now. It's just sort of annoying that people *hear* about this era but nobody ever talks about why it was good/notable. It's always "Bucky was Captain America in the comics, why didn't they adapt this" rather than "why was Bucky Captain America in the comics?" And yes, part of the reason MCU Buckycap didn't happen is that the MCU writers don't really care about Bucky, but also because it just wouldn't be good the way it was in the source material.
(And also because MCU Bucky is a *very* different character from comics Bucky. I cannot overstate that enough.)
