Imagine that, in the universe of project Hail Mary, tumblr is just as obsessed with the actual Hail Mary mission as we are with the book/movie once the beetles arrive and the PHM fandom develops much as it is in our world. Once Grace confirms that he’s alive from Erid, the world organizes a mission to get him resources from earth but also news of how the world developed in his absence. And one of the things they send him is a sort of social media snapshot to show him the various trends and whatnot. And he checks out all the social media sites and sees some stuff about the Hail Mary, but also a lot about the wars and ecological disasters. And then he opens tumblr and the first thing he sees is an incredible drawing of himself making out with Markiplier.
