Who put my son in the suicide squad?? I didn’t sign his permission slip.

I know we have Suicide Squad: Raise the Flag (or whatever this mini series is called) at my store in the warehouse. I just haven’t had the opportunity to hunt it down. I simply must so I can do a study of Owen during this time. I’ve recently been on a kick called “what would these character’s lives be like if, you know, the universe didn’t reset.”

I don’t recommend doing this. I am very sad.

Will never get over the fact that Leonard saw a gossip magazine that said Owen was Digger and Lisa’s child and *immediately* was like “well this is my nephew now.”

Man met Owen at Digger’s funeral and like the cat dad he is took in another stray. Len and Owen’s relationship is so important to me, which is also why Blackest Night upsets me so much. Typical response to breaking of a Rogue Rule (besides Roscoe’s whole deal) is that Cold just like roughs you up a bit and cuts your pay. Makes me wonder if the writers justified Cold murdering Owen solely because Owen technically wasn’t a rogue anymore.

And the reward for most fumbled character ever goes to Owen Mercer, because how on earth do you set up a character so great that has an entire arc reforming himself to become a hero, relapsing into joining the Suicide Squad and being so desperate to belong that he is convinced that feeding his zombie dad people will bring him back.

Yes I’ve been stewing about what I think Owen’s apartment would look like if he was allowed to be happy. In a perfect world where he didn’t die during the events of Blackest Night, what would his apartment look like??

Thinking about the types of plants he keeps on his balcony. Something to focus on that’s not hero/rogue related. Maybe he has a cat?? A companion since he’s been searching for belonging his entire life.

On the walls pictures of all his friends. Selfies with Axel and LaShawn. A blurry picture of him with some of the older rogues. Probably Evan and maybe Len. Len looks like he doesn’t want to take a picture but there’s absolutely fondness in his eyes. A picture of him with his dad. Probably the only picture they’ve taken together before Digger died. The one where you can tell Digger and Owen are related. Pictures of him with the Outsiders too. Dick Grayson, Roy Harper, Supergirl, etc. His hero family.

If he retires from hero/rogue life I can see him memorializing his costume in a box similar to how Brides will store their wedding dresses. Probably has a couple boomerangs on the walls to keep the aesthetic of “Captain Boomerang”.

Maybe the Flashes find out who his mom is. Maybe they connect him with Bart. Maybe Wally feels responsible for checking in on the kid every once in a while.

The closet overflowing with dumb graphic tees from his time with Supergirl and his friends’ clothes. Old game systems on the TV stand. Pillows and blankets strew across the room from the last time Axel spent the night. The home feels lived in. A place where Owen knows he belongs surrounded by all the people who love and cherish him.

Okay okay maybe that was cringe I’m done now. Sorry lol. Owen’s the light of my life and I think about him like he’s my dead wife

Your honor I love the Absolute Rogues. I, like Boomer, did not have Jesse and Lisa as a pair on my bingo card but I’m not upset about it. Would that ship name be GoldenTricks? Lisse? Either way I love their vibes of beating the crap outta eachother and then kissing eachother better lol.

Other than that my theory that Absolute Pied Piper was the last member of S.T.A.R Labs was apparently wrong (BOOOO) but Absolute Ray Palmer is cool too!!

Listen I understand character development exists (and no one really cares about pre-flashpoint anything anymore). But how did we go from this to current Wonder Woman issue #12.

I have many many many things to say about reboot Owen Mercer. They took his swag away and completely altered that man's entire motivation as a character. I think him being a tech guy is an interesting take but also his personality is just completely different in a way that feels like they took his name and some of his defining features and went "no this is Owen Mercer don't worry guys". It's kinda unsettling to be honest.

Like I really want Owen to show up in current Flash but I'm *terrified* that instead of my "I think my dad reserves respect even though he's a bad guy. Also, I'm on my own hero's journey to discover who I am and I think I wanna help save people as Captain Boomerang" complex man I'll be stuck with "god my dad is such a loser and I hate him. He should die." This is also coming from someone who personally believes Owen was fumbled since his first appearance because I truly think he should be the more popular Captain Boomerang just because I think he's a much more compelling character than Digger. That's just me though. The concept of him being Meloni Thawne's son. Bart's half brother. I do also consider him Barry's half grandson. Like why wasn't that expanded on?! Bart and Owen's only connection to their mom so far in the future being each other. How insane it would make the Flash Family when Owen shows up to family dinner because he's technically a Thawne. Sometime before flashpoint Owen "lost" his super speed but I don't like that decision, especially since we never got closure as to *how* he lost his super speed.

At the end of the day, I just miss Owen. I miss all the legacies honestly and I'm hoping we can one day have a version of Owen that actually looks like him.
