Rocky has been so, so alone for so, so long and meets this creature who makes so much noise all the time, and even though they're sort of talking over each other it must be such a comfort to just have something to talk at, to have something talk at him. imagine if Rocky had known that Grace was apologizing for being the sole beacon of sound and life Rocky has come into contact with in five decades.

My dad got the days I was coming mixed up and thought I was actually arriving tomorrow, not today, so he was confused and felt so bad when I called him from the airport. I told him twice over the phone this week that I was landing on Thursday, not Friday

My brother-in-law forgot when I was arriving and panicked for a split second when I entered through the garage, where his wfh office is. I don’t know what his face did (I was too focused on greeting the dog), but it was notable enough that the people he was in a virtual meeting with that very moment asked. I messaged both him and my sister when I both took off and landed

I’m about halfway through the PHM book and I think one of the most underrated parts of it is that Grace is genuinely going “oh golly gosh oh geez” in his narration, and it seems like that’s how the entire book will be, toned down kid friendly language the entire time. And I accept it right away because I assume it’s so the book can be as all-age friendly as possible

Only for Stratt to waltz into the story like 30 pages in like “s’up asshole let’s do some fucking science”

(Before you say “don’t forget he’s a teacher:” I am obviously fully aware of that, it is like the third thing we learn about Grace. I’m talking about the Doylist reason for his language, not the Watsonian, and how that set up a subversion for the reader. I thought the fact he was a teacher and therefore used toned down language was Weir’s excuse to make his book more marketable, hence my surprise when swears popped up anyway)

I would like to personally apologize to the hornet that got stuck in our waiting room that I spent ten minutes playing chicken with, which included me physically throwing boxes of printer ink at it, trying to get it to chase me so I could lead it outside, panic shouting “come on stupid idiot stupid stupid this way idiot come on” while holding the doorway open, and sprinting across the waiting room every time it got too close to me

You deserved a more dignified death than being whacked repeatedly with a bl manga that my coworker borrowed from me after watching this shameful display

So in other news, despite my display yesterday, my coworkers have unanimously decided that I am now The Bug Guy

I overheard them say my name around a corner and then one of them summoned me to one of the patient rooms over the walkie-talkie we all use. She pointed at a decently sized centipede and told me it was now on me to handle it now please and thank you before there were tears and screaming

I did manage to catch it in the small tray we use to carry urine cups, so I at least got this one out alive

(To be fair, I guess I Have earned this reputation. Enough people have caught me babytalking spiders as I catch them with sticky notes and empty urine cups to release outside, and I memorized “The Fly” by William Blake, alongside some other poems, specifically to troll a couple of my coworkers who hate poetry.)

#I’m pretty sure Inside Bugs die very quickly after being sent outside but hey. I say let them get that sweet sunshine before they die #saves me from having to clean up bug guts add #yes I babytalk the bugs I catch and release it brings a lil Whimsy and Goofiness to the day y’all should try it
