"you're taking forever," she grunted, coming behind him and wrapping her arms around him, surrounding herself in the cloying scent of her mate.
"well, then take this opportunity to watch and learn how a drink is prepared in a real kitchen," he snarked, earning him a whack on his side. he laughed, nudging them off as he turned to another counter, grabbing a mug and some hot chocolate mix before busying himself once more.
she hummed, a tad bored but content to watch her mate work, leaning by the radio set on the kitchen windowsill. casting a look over, she fiddled with the dial, settling on a classical station which was currently playing a holiday jazz medley, the mellifluous tones soaking into the room and causing sam to look back at her with a grin.
once he had some water heating in the microwave, he extended a hand towards them, sweeping into a playful bow.
"line-dancing? no thanks," she snorted derisively, earning a scowl from the disgruntled vampire.
he surged forward and swept her in his arms, planting her feet on top of his and shuffling across the room.
"try to do something romantic and this is what i get," he muttered, but when she met his eyes, they were alight with something that was most definitely not irritation.
she buried herself in the crook of his neck, allowing her muscles to relax and meld into his, feeling his arms wrap around her and secure her in their grip. he started to hum along with the song, deep, timbrous vibrations massaging her temples.
unfortunately, this was broken by the microwave sounding its completion. sam gave her a wry smile before mixing the powder with a flick of his wrist.
"catch." he tossed something over his shoulder, and she obediently held her hands out to receive a miniscule marshmallow. she chuckled and popped it into her mouth.
"couch?" he asked, holding two steaming mugs of chocolate. she nodded and followed him into the living room.
he set the cups on coasters nearby and flopped onto the couch, tugging her down with him. he kissed her temple, and settled happily into the quiet moments they now shared.
