Bio:
One autumn evening as the winds raged overhead and crimson leaves drifted through the air, a station wagon carrying three members of the Summers family barrelled down the empty road. Feathers and charms dangled from the rearview mirror as the small car bounced along, Ivy’s father was a writer who dreamed of writing the next America’s great novel and her mother who sat in the passenger seat with a dogged-ear map spread open wide in her lap was an artist, content to take herself where the wind blew. It mattered little to them how the fog rose to enshroud their car and the goosebumps that prickled on their arms, their nervous system screamed at them to turn back but they had drank enough espresso to kill an elephant that day and were used to living with a high-strung nervous system so they paid the magical barrier of Lunar Cove no mind as they sang Cell Block Tango at the top of their lungs.
Checking into the Slumber Inn, they were greeted by a werewolf who clung to their mug full of black coffee and apologized for their sleep-exhausted state with the explanation that it was the full moon yesterday and so they were out all night running through the hills of Echo Acres. Ivy’s parents fell in love with the town of Lunar Cove in that moment alone, they always desired to encounter magic in its full richest experience and couldn’t believe what they had stumbled across. From the hotel room, they dug out their laptop and searched for a house to rent. Finding a modest bungalow, they made an offer and it was accepted. Ivy grew up on that porch in Shadow Lake and although there were challenges for growing up human in a supernatural town, it was home and she knew that if she crossed the boundary line that she would forget everyone that she knew ⸻ her parents would remain but her neighbors and her friends would fade away.
As Ivy grew, she began to stay out all hours, enjoying the late night parties and ichor that would circulate ⸻ there was nothing like conjuring a summer storm after four shots of tequila. She had fun in her twenties but as her thirties began to approach, she wanted to do more than serve tables at Peggy’s Diner, an establishment that had always been good to her and where the fellow waitresses felt like family but with every plate of waffles that was served up, she could feel the sand in her human hourglass begin to drain. If she was born with magic and had more time than her human lifetime, then she wouldn’t have felt the prickle of death over her shoulder and wouldn’t have been so panicked over the passage of time.
Miss Summers wanted a career and so she applied at Town Hall and was hired as Town Hall Secretary. She dedicated herself to her job, attended every function and accepted every work invitation, grateful to work with the Mayor as their assistant and grew closer to Meena as she respected the powerful woman and recognized how lucky she was to receive the job opportunity. Meena paid quite generously and so she was able to afford a place on her own in Celestial Hills.
The Night at the Magnolia Inn changed everything as Ivy was attacked and wounded fatally by a wolf, Meena found her and Ivy begged the vampire to save her life. Ivy is adjusting to her new undead life, burying herself even further in her work by joining the clan and offering her services as secretary. She has lived among supernaturals all her life and magic is as common as the air she breathed and yet the grief has hit her hard for the human life she left behind, she is determined to hold her head up high, to not make Meena regret siring her and to keep her emotions bottled tight.
