julian scoffs , even as an unbidden smile steals across his lips .  â the world has seen enough of me !  iâm prone to doing stupid shit around people with their phones up . â  thereâs a beat of silence then , and he continues ,  â letâs just say thereâs a video of a teenage me , surfing and wearing real loose shorts .  and iâm like , mid-riding this fuckinâ huge barrel !  and then - boom , completely knocked out by the wave .  i was in the belly of a water monster and my shorts , well ⊠ got eaten . â  why is he telling her this ?  sometimes he doesnât know when to shut up .  â had to walk out the water hiding my manly parts with the board , but well - i could only cover the front , right ? â  eyes lower in embarrassment , and he takes a careful sip of his own wine , raising an eyebrow slightly at her hand .  the way she traces her own palm , slowly and delicately .  heâd like to feel her touch .  how can he say no now ?  â fine , fine !  read my heart line , tell me whatâs in storage for my heart . â
Meadow listens to the story with wide eyes, her teeth sinking into her bottom lip. The girl has a track record for taking an interest in athletes, especially when theyâre as physically appealing as this one. âI am definitely googling that when I get home. Would it be âcute surfer loses shortsâ or is that too on the nose?â Sheâs pretty and she knows it and because that fact, the influencer has a habit of frequent flirting. But whatâs the harm in having a little fun? Who knows, maybe this guy is a better kisser than storyteller. He finally relents; Meadowâs expression brightens and she holds out her hands for his. âGreat! Iâd, like, love to do the honors.â She looks down at his hand and then back up at him through her lashes, a mirth-filled smile brews at her lips. âIs there anything I need to know about you love life before I dive in?â
leilaniranâ:
A planner by nature, Leilani has found Meadow to be sort of like an excitable puppy that she is very pleasantly surprised to have found herself sharing a house with, and also very unequipped to handle. The important part, however, is that she really likes Meadow, and instead of her enthusiasm being overwhelming (so far, at least) itâs actually turned out to be extremely motivating and inspirational. Sheâs laughing as Meadow directs her, expounding on her grand ideas, filled with so much determination itâs hard not to believe her. âI think itâs brilliant. The salt cave setting is really what makes the vibe impeccable. Iâve never been to one, are there even any around here?â
Meadow puts a hand over her heart and gasps. If it were anyone else, the action might have been a facetiously exaggerated one. But itâs Meadow and sheâs completely serious. âYouâve never been? What do you do when youâre stressed? Or sad? Or... bored?â The influencer knows how to put up dramatics in front of the camera but ultimately, the persona she posts online is true to herself. âI really hope there is. I donât know what Iâm supposed to do on Sundays otherwise.â She fans herself with one hand, as if the thought worked her up. âI mean, like, I could do normal yoga but the salt cave is just so much better.âÂ

It takes Auggie a moment to realise that not only is Summer no longer dancing with him, but sheâs also stepped out of his arms. He comes to a less than graceful stop, the combination of the sudden ceasing of dancing, the prosthetic and the rock of the water below them causing him to wobble. In truth, the look on her face had just as much of an impact. He hated seeing her like that, looking so small and defeated and all because heâd not wanted to rush her into anything. It had never occurred to him what that would look like on her side of things. âAs far as Iâm concerned this has been a done deal for me since you didnât run away screaming at the sight of my stumpâ It was a joke sure, Auggie really couldnât help it, but it was also deeply sincere and he was sure that must be reflecting in his gaze. Having to share that whole side of his life had been daunting for him, afraid it would be too much for anyone really but particularly anyone he was going to date. So Summer reacting the way she had, it had put all of those fears to rest âI mean I was pretty certain before that, but it was definitely what sealed the deal.â
Heâs gentle as he reaches out to her to bring her back closer to him, deciding now definitely wasnât the time to keep holding back on his actions but still not forcing anything on her. Everything just felt better when she was close to him âYou kissing me was the best thing that has ever happened to me so, I would like to do that again. A lot. Itâs pretty much been all that Iâve thought about since.â A little bit of heat flooded his cheeks at the confession. âIâm sorry if it came across as anything other than that I-â He smiles a little sheepishly, a hand raising to cup her cheek while his thumb ran back and forth idly on the skin there âwell I didnât want to rush you into anything, I was happy just to treasure holding your hand and remember how soft your lips are while we got toâŠwell this point I guess.â
âBut you didnât say anything.â Hearing her own words, makes Summer feel like an overgrown child. Maybe itâs too old fashioned -- she canât expect everyone to match her own ideals. Sure, the romantic in her that wanted some extravagant confession or conversation but Summer doesnât explicitly need that from August. Some affirmation would have been nice. âI mean, you said lots of very nice things all the time but --â She looks up at him like a wounded puppy, unsure how to articulate her feelings. Heâs looming over her, equal parts earnest and open which is so uncharacteristic of him. Her fingernails dig into her elbow slightly, now feeling guilty for worrying him. She slumps a little, her arms dropping to her sides. âHow was I supposed to know how you felt?â She asks weakly. âPeople say things all the time and just end up disappearing.â It finally comes out; her words hang in the air and sound like static. Taunting her about everyone in her life that couldnât stick around or didnât even try.
As humiliated as she is by the complete emotional oversharing, she craves to be close to August and moves into him instantly. As usual, sheâs completely enamored by his everything; overwhelmed by the August of it all. Heâs saying all of the things sheâs been dying to hear since the open house party (and honestly, probably since the day she moved in). Summer can feel the insecurities dissipating; the embarrassment loosens and makes way for a more favorable warmth. The kind she has only ever felt in the presence of the man standing in front of her. âOh.â She says brilliantly, trying to process. âYouâre a lot more patient than I am.â She finally says, moving a hand to gently grasp the one he has on her face. She smiles softly, allowing herself to drown in his eyes. âI really donât think I can survive on remembering what it was like to kiss you anymore, Captain Prattes.â
sumncr·:
âyeah, i guess.â liam nods before a soft chuckle escapes under his breath, clearly a bit caught off guard by the request. itâs not that he minds being in her company for a while longer, he doesnât â heâs just doubtful heâll be that interesting to her. surely there are other people she would rather hang out with ? âyou must be really bored if you want me to entertain you.â he replies with a self-deprecating smile, hans tucked inside his jacket pockets like he suddenly doesnât know what to do with them, ââŠ. but uh, sure. i was just killing some time before a tattoo appointment. you can come if you want, the studio isnât too far away from here.â he says, a soft smile on his face as he gently takes the book from her hand.
âBored?â Aspen echoes, shaking her head. Boredom isnât really the right term for it. More like sheâs greedy. Aspen understand that, much like herself, Harry is out on the town meeting as many people as humanly possible. Sheâs hopeful to make some connections with people that donât know her brother. Itâs hard to share friends with the twins, especially given that she usually hates everyone that Harry hangs out with. She yearns make a circle that doesnât involve Harry; thatâs the best part about moving to a new town. She gets to be just Aspen (that is, when she isnât cleaning up her twinâs mess). âNo. But you should feel lucky. I donât make these kind of offers to just anyone.â Aspen smiles, biting on the corner of her bottom lip. Her eyes sparkle when he mentions the tattoo parlor. Old Aspen would never get a tattoo but Old Aspen lived in New York, so maybe New Aspen would be more inclined? âSounds fun. What are we getting?âÂ

if there's something about the cove that juli absolutely loves , it's the beach .  no matter where you are in town , you likely have a beautiful view .  off the vine is no different .  and while he's more of a cheap beer kind of guy , the wine he's drinking isn't half bad .  â this is pretty good , right ? â  he attempts small talk , but the woman clearly has other plans .  and so , a brow lift .  â palm reading , live for thousands of people to watch ?  yeah , hard pass .  what if you end up telling me i'm gonna die in two weeks ?  first , it'd be a hell of a spoiler .  i like to live in the moment and knowing when i'll die will totally ruin that for me . how am i supposed to enjoy life if i know exactly when i'm gonna die  , you know ?  and second - dying âŠÂ dude ,  that'd really bum me out . âÂ
Meadow canât help but giggle at the man in front of her. How fortunate to find a Los Angeles nine in the complete boonies that are South Carolina (at least to her -- anywhere that isnât a major city is practically nowhere). âAw, come on! You need to open yourself to the world.â She holds out her hands, inviting the stranger to place his own. âNo life line reading, I promise. There has to be something you want to know about your future. Something about your public image? Or wealth?â She traces the sun line on her own palm to show him and then moves to the base of her thumb, circling the mount of Venus. âOr your heart line? Everyone is a little interested in romance, right?â

The twin struts into the vineyard, sunglasses on and oversized sweater hugging his torso. On his feet were his casual shoes: the Yeezy Foam Runners. Tonight was a relaxed night. Wine and cheese. Today was a nice day, so he decided to buy one bottle to drink there.
Harry moved through the grass and stopped as he felt a camera on him. He loved the camera and he quickly straightened up to look at the other. âHuh.â An amused hum slips through his lips. âSure. I guess. Whatâs your handle?â He asks, sitting beside her and pulling out his phone.
âItâs at meadowdreaming! Iâll tag you.â She responds instantly, smile equipped at all times. Socials are her golden egg goose; the very foundation of her wealth and success. She looks her companion up and down. âI like your shoes,â Meadow offers. âCan you guys see that?â She turns to her propped up phone and points at the Foam Runners. âI bet you have a water hand. What do you guys think?â The comments flood in; Meadow squints to read them under the sun. âHarry Montgomery?â What luck that her collaborator is someone in the industry as well? Meadow holds out a hand for the other to put his in, ready for the reading. âWow, it must be fate.â

Trey was enjoying a wine tasting at Off the Vine when he heard one of the other patrons speak out. He fought the urge to laugh as she suggested that she do a palm reading on him for instagram live. âOh, would they?â Trey asked with a raised brow. As a attention starved B list actor, the thought of exposure was promising, but he wasnât sold on it, âHow do you even read a palm?â Trey asked skeptically.
âOf course!â Meadow chirps immediately, turning fully toward her new friend (sheâs decided on her own that they are friends -- sheâs got a habit of doing that). She sets her glass aside and smiles openly. Thereâs always a few critics when it comes to inviting strangers to her videos. âItâs not too difficult! I can walk you through it.â The brunette holds out her hands for the other to place his. âWouldnât it be reassuring to know what your future is like?â She winks.

Davis had been stood up. Well technically this hadnât been a date; heâd simply been here to meet up with a work colleague. But she was a no show, and she hadnât even texted or called to tell Davis she wouldnât be there, which honestly frustrated him (though he also hoped she was okay). So now he was alone at a winery. It wasnât a place Davis would have chosen, but he decided heâd wait a bit longer to see if his coworker arrived. Sitting at a small table alone, he hadnât even realized that the girl at the next table was speaking to him at first. But there was no one else around really, and Davis turned to her, and he asked, âPalm read me?â as if he had heard her wrong. Looking down at his hand, Davis was intrigued enough to say, âWhat the hell, go for it,â and he moved to join the woman at her table.  âThis is for Instagram, you said?â he clarified. Was this girl an influencer or something? She did look vaguely familiar.
âYay!â Meadow grabs the others hand eagerly, hoping to be gentle but it is hard to contain her excitement. A willing participant is her favorite and her audience loved these lives. They spiked her viewership up like a rocket. âYep! Instagram Live. Say hi everyone!â She smiles at her phone and waves. âToday we are joined by --â She looks at her companion to supply their name, doing a little shoulder dance. Meadow is particularly fond of getting the older generation getting in touch with social media. Her own dad is a total dinosaur when it comes to this stuff. It made talking about her career with him difficult. She takes a deep breath for theatrics and examines the palm. âOoo, interesting! You have an Earth palm! We donât see a lot of those here.â

Ivanâs eyes immidiately light up at the sound of palm reading. He loves divination and hearing things about himself mostly. âOoooh, palm reading might just be what I need. I love watching those videos!â Showing his hand to her before retracting it back to his jeans pocket. âWaait, but you would keep me as anonymous right?â
âPerfect!â She claps her hands together in excitement. If thereâs one thing Meadow likes, itâs people that match her energy. âOh my god, me too. Now I get to make them, how incredible is that?â She sips down the last of the wine in her glass, feeling very content with the state of the universe. âSure. If thatâs what you want. Itâs a shame, though, my followers would love to see a heartthrob.â The audience loves a pretty face. Meadow has her own to thank partially for her following and she knows it. She holds out a hand and smiles invitingly. âCâmon. Donât you want to know what your future will hold?â

closed starter â @sunriseichorâ location â outside her house, early morning
Auggie had put a lot of work into making sure Summerâs birthday, her first here in Lighthouse Cove and the first spent with him, completely blew her mind. Heâd barely been able to sleep the night before in all the excitement, everything laid out neatly on the kitchen island ready to go. Heâd waited until midnight, so he could be the first to send her a happy birthday message (using the confetti message effect too which was just a very Auggie thing to do), before heâd allowed himself to even think about sleep.
By the time heâd woken up, gotten ready and wrestled first with the prosthetic and then the bunny costume it was only just 8 oâclock. Was that still too early? He was far too eager to delay any longer, so packed up all the gifts and a grabbed a cane just in case and slowly made his way over to Summerâs house. He made a few kids days walking around in the costume, got a few odd looks from their parents but he was so excited to see Summer that they all just washed over him. Once he arrives he makes quick work of tucking the presents out of immediate view and sends her a message, only just now realising she may not yet be up and heâll just have to linger outside of her house in a bunny costume like a weirdo. Heâd cross that bridge when he came to it.
Itâs her birthday and sheâs twenty-eight. Eight and twenty, as they used to say. Summer likes celebrating things. Even with her mostly sober lifestyle, she knows how to have a fun. Still, since twenty-five thereâs been a lingering hesitancy around her birthday. It feels like the world is turning faster than she is ready for. Almost thirty, no novels, just a bunch of short stories and a bartending career that lasted much longer than she ever intended. Difficult to not think about it. Summer isnât the type to believe she would change the world or anything, but she did expect to be a little farther along in life at this point.Â
Sheâs in the middle of feeling sorry for herself -- sheâs allowed to today at least, of all days -- and then thereâs a man dressed in a bunny costume at her front door. Or rather, she gets a text about a rabbit suit donning a certain boyfriend (boyfriendboyfriendboyfriend -- she can call him that finally and now she never wants to stop) of hers. Doesnât even fully comprehend it before racing down the stairs and throwing the door open. She stands, a little out of breath, just looking him up and down for several long moments. And then a smile sparks from her lips and she laughs, full and hearty. âMy very own Prattes special?â She phrases it like a question but she already knows itâs true. She wants to run into his arms and tackle him in a hug but is wary of his prosthetic. âWow. If only I had some chocolate to go with this. Itâd really be the best birthday surprise ever.â

âHow do I know you?â Aspen asks. Sheâs been a lot of places and met lots of people. Itâs true, sometimes they are forgettable or just seem familiar but sheâs certain that sheâs seen this man before. âAre you from New York? Or no, let me guess --â She taps a finger to her lips and analyzes him. â-- Youâre in TV, arenât you? Youâve got the face for it.â She nods, confident with her conclusion.Â

âJust picture it,â Meadow says, waving a hand in the air. She uses the other to guide Leilaniâs shoulders. âYou, me, Tyson -- itâs the perfect harmony of creators! The universe truly brought us together for a reason.â Meadow smiles dreamily at her new roommate, high off the fantasy of fame (and a bit from the blunt Tyson had kindly gifted her this morning). âI was thinking for our first collab we should do goat yoga in a salt cave. What do you think?â There probably isnât a salt cave nearby but Meadow hasnât yet grasped that the Cove isnât quite Los Angeles. While excited to start a new adventure, itâs different on this side of the country. Sheâs a big fish in a small pond, but hopefully with Leilani around things will get easier. Thereâs strength in numbers, after all.Â

âHowâs it hanging you most effervescent and radiant of nymphs. Party girls gets first pick of the swag bag you know.â Wally smirked and held out his bookbag for Aspen to pick through if she wanted anything he had pickpocketed over the course of the major events the neighborhood had held since he moved in. He got bored and when he got bored his hands got sticky. It wasnât like he needed anything of the things he took, he didnât sell them for cash. Sometimes he would even take things from one personâs pocket and put them in someone elseâs. âYou know after this I am going spray womenâs perfume on menâs jackets so they get in trouble with their wives and girlfriends.âÂ
âI love being your favorite,â She winks at him. Wallyâs flattery had become one of her favorite things about the Cove, second to his penchant for trouble. Aspen peers in the bag, eyes filled with mirth and mischief. Of course, she could buy any and all of the things in the bag but that isnât the point. How fun would that be?Â
Itâs quite full. Wally really does have sticky fingers. Wallets to keychains to sticks of gum; he really isnât picky at all. Aspen isnât even mildly surprised -- he is the biggest flirt in this town for a reason. Canât resist a beautiful person much more than he could resist taking their belongings it seems. She selects a a silver ring with a dark sapphire in the middle and places it on her ring finger. âOh, Walter! I thought youâd never ask.â She fans herself with the ringed hand and smiles like a cat. âAs fun as that sounds, I feel we can go a step further.â She points to a couple in the corner of the room. âWouldnât it be a shame if the mistress showed up?â

Sheâs surprised at how many faces she doesnât recognize. Upon moving in, Aspen had made it her personal mission to make as many connections friends as possible. Snaking through the thick crowd of people now, she realizes just how many people live in the Cove and how many she hasnât met. Still, sheâs a Montgomery, so she flits around making conversation with the locals. Sheâs always been good at rubbing elbows -- her parents taught her well -- but thereâs so many strangers. When the names start blending together, she knows itâs time to take a break. Aspen reaches for a bottle of water from the open pantry and spots a stray hand doing the same. Curiously, she retrieves her drink and looks over to see a familiar face. âHmm, if it isnât my old friend.â She grins at the tall, dark-haired not-stranger, pleased to see someone she not only knows but enjoys the company of. âYou donât drink but I keep finding you in the most interesting places for a sober person.â She offers the water bottle out to Andrej, grabbing another off the shelf with her free hand for herself. âEnjoying the festivities?â
