His voice is soft as he nods, “sorry, my cop brain” he grumbles as you smile, shifting to open your eyes and look up at him. “It’s okay my love” you lean up to kiss his lip gently with a content hum. He hums and pecks your lips as you retreat back to your pillow.

“Can I sleep just a little more?” you ask as he nods, kissing your shoulder through his police academy tshirt. “I will read a bit and go back to sleep” he mumbles, the sound of the rain and your hand laced with his around your waist already making him tired.

 Sammy didn't hear the bedroom door creak open three hours later as Nick dragged his blanket to your side of the bed. His giggles from the end of the bed is what woke you.

Richter lovingly licking his face with a happy tail, you smile, “hi bub” you whisper. Nick looks over at you, startled by your voice. “H-Hi, I'm sorry I woke you..” you shake your head sitting up and moving Sammy’s arm gently.

“No problem bub, you hungry?” You ask as he moves to crawl into bed beside you, your arm wrapping around the four year old gently. He nods against your chest, "I'm bored,” he admits as you giggle. “Wanna take Richter outside for me and then we will make breakfast? Let dad sleep a bit?” You ask as both of your eyes fall to Sammy who remained asleep beside you.

He nods happily, sliding off your lap and encouraging Richter to follow, who does happily. You lean over and grab your sleep shorts off the chair and kiss Sammy's temple, following the boys.

“What do you want for breakfast Nicky?” you ask at the counter, turning the coffee pot on and setting Sammy’s mug beside it.  “Uh, pancakes!” he cheers from the yard, you smile and look at him through the screen door, “okay bub, pancakes it is”. 

A knock at the door pulls you from your thoughts and Sammy from his slumber, he groans, reaching over for you huffing when the bed is cold.

You frown and make your way to the door, opening to find Ben on the other end. “Ben” you smile at him which instantly turns to a frown at the look on his face, “you okay?”. He sighs, hand on his hip as he looks at you with a soft sniffle, “bad shift”. You frown and pull him in the door and shut it behind him. Sammy is making his way down the stairs slowly.

“Untle Ben!” Nick squeals from the kitchen table as Ben is scooping him into his arms. “Hi big guy” you smile, watching the two of them. If it wasn’t for Ben, this wouldn’t have been your life. You met Sammy through him, as Ben was your best friend.

“Can we go play (y/n)?” Nicky questions in Ben’s arms who grins at you. You can tell the little boy brought his spirits up, kids did that for him. “Did the rain let up?” you question Ben who nods as you smirk, “you can, be careful please” you scold and watch as the boys run out the door.

You stand there happily watching as Ben chases after Nick. You don’t hear Sammy make his way back down the steps, he smiles as he watches you at the door. Richter was beside you, your hand gently massaging his ear something he noticed you did out of comfort.

He grabs the pot of coffee and pours himself a cup in the mug you set aside and makes his way to you. His arm around you startles you slightly as you sigh and lean into his chest. “Ben had a bad shift” you mumble, running your fingers along Sammy's freckles. He shrugs, kissing your temple gently as his hand moves to rest on your belly. “That’s alright, he loves Nicky” he whispers as you hum in content.

“Feelin okay?” he whispers, setting his mug aside, wrapping his other arm around you to fully close you in his embrace. “Take your vitamins?” he questions as you smile and nod. “I did honey” you turn to kiss his temple as his hands rub at your swollen belly.

He nods, kissing your head as his eyes falling out to the boys in the yard.
