“For sale”
god i fucking love people like right now someone is kissing their baby on the forehead for the first time and someone just went into a french bakery and is deeply inhaling and someone is dyeing their hair the color of the sky and someone just confessed their love to someone and you’re reading this post but you are alive and you will be okay and you will be happy
I needed this
Shout-out to people studying with a mental illness.
You’re doing this with half your brain tied behind your back and that’s pretty badass
You are all strong, and powerful, and I know that you will do great things.
skfbdnd they're just babies
actually, growing up is feeling like i turned sixteen two days ago. i’ve been eighteen for years. fifteen year olds seem so young. wasn’t i fifteen just a few weeks ago? all my friends and i are still twelve. i’m closer to thirty then to being a baby. i never got to be a kid. i never grew past eight. i can’t talk to my mom. i want to sit in her lap forever. the week is going by so slow. an entire year has passed. i want to decide everything for myself. i need someone to tell me exactly what to do.

Sneak Peek: Emotional Permanence
I wanted to share a sneak peek from my upcoming book Too Much & Not Enough.
This chapter is about emotional permanence. It's about the way happiness and love can feel like they vanish the second they’re out of sight. It’s one of the hardest parts of living with BPD, and one I'd like to see talked about more. '
“When the good moments vanish, it doesn’t mean they never happened.”
One of the hardest things about BPD is how emotions seem to slip away as soon as they fade. A happy moment can feel powerful while it’s happening, but the second it’s over, it’s like it never existed. It’s like trying to hold smoke in your hands.
Think of babies playing peek-a-boo. They don’t understand the person is still there once hidden. That's called object permanence. For us, it’s the same thing, but with emotions. If love, joy, or security isn’t visible right now, our brain insists it’s gone.
If I can’t feel it right now, how do I know it’s real? If I don’t feel loved right now, how do I know anyone actually loves me?
It’s not that we’re ungrateful or forgetful. It’s that our emotional memory is unreliable. For someone without BPD, joy leaves a soft echo they can carry forward. For us, joy often vanishes the second it ends. And that crash can feel unbearable.
Happiness feels gone forever, and with it, our sense of security.
I can laugh with a friend one day and by the next, convince myself they don’t care. I can feel deeply loved in the morning and by evening, sitting right next to my partner, feel like he’s pulling away.
It’s like Buffy Season 6. Sure, you know things probably get better later, but in the moment it feels like it’ll be miserable forever. (And no, you don’t get a musical episode to help process it.)
That’s why reassurance matters so much. It’s not about testing people or being dramatic. It is about trying to hold onto something our brain keeps insisting has disappeared.
Building Anchors
We may never fully erase this struggle, but we can learn to ground ourselves when happiness feels like it’s slipping away:
Keep reminders. Screenshots of kind messages, notes from friends, or objects tied to good moments.
Practice recall. Describe a good memory out loud or write it down, even if it feels hollow. Over time, this builds emotional muscle memory.
Ask openly. Reassurance is okay to need, The key is to ask in a way that invites connection.
Notice the waves. Feelings don’t last, but that includes despair too.
Sometimes, honestly, half my coping skills are just me tricking my brain like it’s a toddler: “Look, here’s proof someone likes you, now eat your snack.”
This is an excerpt from my upcoming book Too Much & Not Enough, which explores what it’s like to live with BPD, trauma, and the ups and downs of healing. This isn't the entire chapter. I've pulled bits and pieces out of a few sections, but this was a topic I thought I'd like to share a bit about!
when it comes down to it everything is about ghosts except ghosts, which are about love
every single person you know has something in their life and past that is probably worth collapsing to the ground in an uncontrollably sobbing heap over, so be nice to each other and tell good jokes
having so much love in your heart is beautiful and amazing right up until you’re alone in your bedroom clutching at your chest and whimpering like a wounded dog
you can't come to my birthday party? aw dang, (remembers it's bad to guilt trip people) this doesn't matter to me at all (remembers to demonstrate that i am affected by you to affirm your positive presence in my life) but while you're away i will die (remembers not to guilt trip again) unpreventably. unrelated to you. don't worry about it. (remembers to express care through actions and not just words) you're in the will.

"The customer is always right"
wrong: The customer is literally always correct, in factual matters, and cannot be disputed. correct: The customer is always right in matters of taste. If they're here to spend money and want to buy the ugliest thing you've ever seen, you must not argue them about it. correctest: In every person there are two souls locked in eternal combat - one is the disciplined, good-willed, and financially responsible one, and the other one is The Customer, who will always yearn to buy some stupid shit. Your job is to side with The Customer, and do your best Emperor Palpatine "do it" to persuade them.
