SUMMARY; Every Halloween, you look forward to meeting up with the boy with the horns, Soobin. He doesn’t talk much about himself, and you can never seem to find him on any other day of the year, but trick-or-treating with him has become an important personal tradition. As time wanes on, though, your lives grow further apart, and it becomes apparent that meeting once a year may not be enough to sustain a lasting friendship.

Age 5

It was the very first Halloween you could remember.

The houses in your neighborhood were decked out in full seasonal glory; jack-o-lanterns and plastic gravestones and cloth ghosts transformed the regular homes of your little suburbs into a spooky wonderland. Your mother walked some distance behind you as you and your best friend skipped along down the sidewalk, gleefully bounding up one porch after another to ring the bell and make your shrill cries of trick-or-treat. Even the adults who passed out the candy seemed as delighted to give it as you were to receive it, some of them dressed up with a little witch hat here or a set of plastic fangs there. Your costume for the day— a pretty pink princess dress with a plastic sword swinging from your hip, because as you insisted, princesses need swords— made you feel unstoppable.

It was perfect. And it was the first day you met Soobin.

If you had to pick one thing about Seungmin that you liked the most, it was him in his entirety.
