i think that rylan grace being an elementary school teacher was the only way for this whole thing to work, especially communication with rocky. i feel like most any one else would have lost it, or just barely managed to get thoughts across to each other, but its becuase grace was used to teaching the youngest, most easily troublesome population that alowed him to figure out a way to talk

Hot tip for future parents: you actually have to guide your kid to adulthood. Feeding them and waiting for them to grow up is not enough since they are not house plants. A little more thought and care is required.
