Iâm embracing the natural, no make-up trend.
Iâve been having skin issues lately, likely due to recent poor eating habits, no exercise and the onset of dry winter weather. Iâve also been fighting a cold for the last month, and as a result Iâve turned my attention to my overall health.
One aspect is my skin. I realized that I am exposing my body to so many chemicals, so Iâm rethinking the products that I use regularly.
I think itâs important to note that Iâm a bit of a beauty junkie and never leave the house without make-up on. But it was a nice confirmation when my boyfriend honestly did not know the difference between me with and without make-up. So why am I putting all of this crap on my face!?Â
The movement started when I tested an all-natural deodorant. I was skeptical that it would work as well as my tegular (Dove) but was pleasantly surprised that it does! I didnât notice a difference at all. No chemicals, no compromise.
Next, Iâm switching to oil cleansing, a beauty trend thatâs picking up steam. Based on research and the endorsement of a trusted friend who swears by it, Iâm going to start cleansing with pure, cold-pressed jojoba oil, adding rose hip when my skin is sensitive, and moisturizing with argan oil.
I found this overview by the Oil Cleansing Method describes the benefits and process really well.Â
Finally, Iâm reducing the amount of make-up I use, especially the foundations and powders. I found this article from Vogue very encouraging about embracing natural beauty the way the French do. I think theyâre on to something:
âThe biggest thing about French culture is to accept who you are, love you and the way you look, and play with it,â she insists. âFaults are so charming and make you unique.âÂ
Even the dark circles that I try to cover up most. Hopefully with the new cleansing routine and clean diet, I can say good-bye to uneven skin tone and blemishes and stop wearing full-cover make-up all together.Â
Baby steps, I think Iâll start the transition with the Dior Skinflash booster pen they suggested.
Starting today, will report back on the results!

Fashion, beauty meets art. The use of bold colour here is stunning.

âStarting a girl gang of girls aggressively supporting other girls so reblog if you want in because if we get enough people weâre getting jackets.â
Almost every successful person begins with two beliefs: the future can be better than the present and I have the power to make it so.

Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.

The sign of intelligence is that you are constantly wondering. Idiots are always dead sure about every damn thing they are doing in their life.

Do not wait; the time will never be âjust right.â Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

ââŚlast year this photograph of children looking at their smartphones by Rembrandtâs âThe Night Watchâ in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam [went viral.] It was often accompanied by outraged, dispirited comments such as âa perfect metaphor for our age,â âthe end of civilizationâ or âa sad picture of our societyâ.
âŚIt turns out that the Rijksmuseum has an app that, among other things, contains guided tours and further information about the works on display. As part of their visit to the museum, the children, who minutes earlier had admired the art and listened attentively to explanations by expert adults, had been instructed to complete an assignment by their school teachers, using, among other things, the museumâs excellent smartphone appâŚ.
The tragic thing is that thisâââthe truthâââwill never go viral. So, I wonder, what is more likely to bring about the death of civilization, children using smartphones to learn about art or the willful ignorance of adults who are too quick to make assumptions?â JosĂŠ Picardo, Medium

I love looking at the stars, when I can see them. Itâs a gentle reminder that the world is huge and magical. Itâs humbling.Â

Womenâs emotionality is a sign of health, not disease; it is a source of power. But we are under constant pressure to restrain our emotional lives. We have been taught to apologize for our tears, to suppress our anger and to fear being called hysterical.

âMy wife passed away last January. Weâd been married for 62 years. You caught me at a time when Iâve been thinking a lot about love because Iâm reading Shakespeareâs sonnets. The definition of love is elusive, which is why we write about it endlessly. Even Shakespeare couldnât touch it. All the greatest love stories just seem to be about physical attraction. Romeo and Juliet didnât know ifthey liked the same books or movies. It was just physical. After 62 years, it becomes something different entirely. My wife used to say: âWe are one.â And believe me, she was not the type of person to overstate something. Now that sheâs gone, I realize how right she was. So much of our lives were linked. We were very physical and affectionate. But we also shared every ritual of our life. I miss her every time I leave a movie and canât ask for her opinion. Or every time I go to a restaurant and canât give her a taste of my chicken. I miss her most at night. We got in bed together at the same time every night.â
