Zanka had known what his sister meant, even back then. He had been no stranger to violence—he had grown up in it, even, bearing his father’s punishments, his mother’s training, his brother’s sword and fists, and his sister’s bullets. If a Giver had outed themselves in front of Zanka when he was a child, he would have gone running to Kyouka, and would have taken them for interrogation and then killed them.
“Yea’! I promise!” He had chirped, and Kyouka—serius, formidable, untouchable Kyouka—had smiled down at him, running a hand through his hair to tuck it behind his ear and then, to Zanka’s absolute shock, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
