I do wanna point out that a lot of transmascs do expect to take T and have only a selective few male characteristics that... don't work like they want?
It's okay to want to be a "pretty boy". Hell, I'd fucking love to be one, but it's so fucking funny to see people who have made fun and mocked men who lose hair, who can't grow a beard, who are fat, who have acne become one of these men, then sob and cry about it, because they had unrealistic expectations about hormones. And they can't let go of such white centric eastern beauty standards.
It just doesn't fit in my head that people want to become men but don't.... want to look like what men actually look like? When I started my transition, I never compared myself to these fucking models or actors, because I knew I couldn't look like them - very few people who have a lot of resources can look like them.
I'm balding. I'm losing hair at an increasing rate, looking down at my feet as I towel-dry my hair and there's a part of me that goes "oh gods" whenever that happens, but at the same time I look at myself in the mirror and I think, "Oh. I've got my father's hairline when he was my age." And I think of my dad, with the body hair I have and the same eyes as me and I just have to grin. Because I'm his son, and now I can tell.
I've acne. I've always had terrible acne! But it's come back with a vengeance and it hurts my face a lot - I know it'll pass. I've gone through it before, I can move from that. My beard is also very patchy and not very good, and I asked my dad about it. He told me he couldn't get a full beard until he turned 32. It made me smile. Because it means I will reach 32 to see it, when I didn't even know before if I'd get to 20.
So to any transmasculine people or trans men afraid to go on T or regretting going on T because it's making you not look like Harry Styles or whatever bottox-filled up fucking pop star that you've plastered on your wall........
Look at the men riding the bus. Not the screen. And try to understand that no trans person transitions to be beautiful. You transition to be happy with your fucking self.
HRT is not a cure for your self-esteem, it's a medical process to help you be happy and comfortable. So if you want people to see you as a man, you've to know what a real man actually looks like.
