Shan Yu has an elderly aunt who loves Mei as her own niece. The Elite and the hun army respect her a lot. (She's closest with the elite)

My inspiration for this character was based off the poor unfortunate women of the Chinese brothel houses who are tragically not acknowledged or speaking of enough.

My AU is basically where Yu succeeds in killing the emperor and returns to the steppes to establish trade routes. He met Mei along the way while in China. She herself is technically an exile so she has no loyalty to the kingdom that shunned ans hurt her.
