So I’m teaching a demo on animating illustrations tomorrow and decided to make a little piece of Over the Garden Wall fan art for the occasion. It started as just wanting to animate steam from a teapot, but I opted to put Jason Funderburker in instead of tea. One thing lead to another...

My 27th year has been one of the best in a long time. I rang in my birthday last year surrounded by friends, sparkles, and ABBA songs. I visited California, passed my graduate review, completed my thesis, participated in my first (or hopefully many) anthology, and got my second tattoo. I’ve also had so say goodbye to some incredible people in my life who have moved on to different corners of the country since graduating, which is hard considering my own time in grad school is coming to an end in a couple of months. For the first time in a few years I’m not sure what my next step is or where I’m heading. I know I have collaborations planned, cities I want to visit, cons I want to attend and a smattering of weddings added to my planner. I have no idea what 28 will bring, but I know it won’t be boring.

I read articles about the importance of getting up early or justifying being a night owl, but I’ve found a magical stretch of time between 10-2. Outside of that I’m pretty much useless.

Hermione Granger would be a fire type trainer, even though on might expect her to pick something more sensible like flying or normal type. Instead she’d want something to better fit her strong will and determination. Plus a glowing light for midnight reading wouldn’t hurt.

For the past year, every break from school has been spent exploring the incredible world in Breath of the Wild. I’m so excited to get to go back to that version of Hyrule in its sequel

It’s easy to feel directionless and burnt out with so much going on in day to day life. But sometimes, you can find a few quiet moments and remember what true north is to you.

Above all I hope that 2019 is a year of growth and opportunities.

I made this one for Christmas for a dear friend with whom I share TV tastes. I wanted to make more art for people but this is the only on I got done between work and being sick. Here’s to a new year, hopefully filled with more fan art.
