Happy birthday, George Habash! (August 2, 1926)

A founder and leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and one of the most prominent Christians in the Palestinian struggle, George Habash, also known by the name al-Hakim meaning "doctor" or "wise man," served as General Secretary of the PFLP from 1967 to 2000. Born in al-Ludd in the British Mandate of Palestine, Habash was a medical student when the Nakba began and his family became refugees. Habash was influenced by Arab nationalist thinkers, and became active in political struggles while working as a doctor in Jordanian refugee camps. Habash was a proponent of ending Israeli settler colonialism by any means necessary, and founded the Arab Nationalist Movement to bring the Arab world together for that cause. Fleeing Jordan after being implicated in the alleged coup attempt of 1957, Habash founded the PFLP in 1964 as a regrouping of the ANM's Marxist elements, and in partial opposition to the Palestinian Liberation Organization under Yasser Arafat, who had sidelined Habash politically. The PFLP under Habash declared itself a Marxist-Leninist organization in 1969, and became prominent in the radical side of the Palestinian movement. Habash was a hardliner against compromise with Israel, adamantly opposing a two-state solution as acquiescence to colonialism. Accordingly, the adoption of the Oslo Accords led to the PFLP totally severing ties with the PLO, with Habash accusing Arafat of selling out the Palestinian people. However, the PFLP's influence diminished with Islamist groups gaining prominence on one side and Fatah on the other. Habash resigned his positions in 2000 due to failing health, although he remained influential in the PFLP and popular among Palestinians. He died in 2008.

Three days have passed without a single donation. Three long days of refreshing our fundraiser, hoping to see even one act of kindness, but all I see is silence. It’s heartbreaking to feel like our cries for help are slowly disappearing 💔

My mother survived her heart surgery, but her battle isn’t over. She still needs her medications, follow-up treatment, and hospital care. Every day I worry that without the care she needs, her recovery could become even more difficult. As her daughter, there is nothing more painful than watching her suffer while knowing money is the only thing standing in our way😔

We need just $500 more. If only 20 kind people donate $25 each, we can almost reach our goal together. 20 people that’s all I’m praying for 🙏

Please… don’t tell yourself, “Someone else will help.” Be one of those 20 people. We are not asking for luxury, a better life, or anything beyond basic medical care. We are simply trying to help my mother heal after everything she has endured 💔

We've all had friends and family fall ill before, whether that's been the flu or something more chronic. Nader's father has cancer, and him and his family are still in Gaza living under horrible conditions.

Please, if you can, consider donating to Nader and his family to help them get through this incredibly difficult time. Their fundraiser is currently at 81% -- they're getting so close!

For the past three years, since I was 25, I have been searching for a future for myself and my family. I kept hoping that life would change and that things would become better for us.

But sometimes everything in front of me feels dark and uncertain. Still, I keep going, because my family deserves a better life than this.

Even in the middle of all this, I feel grateful for the people who stand beside me, who listen, who care, and who remind me that I am not alone. Your support means more than you know.

On my birthday, I don’t wish for anything big. I just hope that this year will finally bring some light into our lives, and that my family and I will find the peace and stability we have been searching for.

6-year-old Souad has been anemic since birth, and starvation and disease due to the IOF assault have caused her severe additional health complications. In September she fell unconscious and was admitted to the hospital. She has since been comatose and fluid is building up around her brain.

Medical staff have worked very hard to reduce the swelling. But despite their efforts, Souad's brain is now hemorrhaging (bleeding). The swelling has been too persistent, and the pressure is rapidly bursting the cells of her brain, causing bleeding. This will kill her. Little Souad is dying.

She needs to be evacuated outside of Gaza, but this is extremely expensive. The cost for transport through the Egyptian border, medical care, and associated expenses comes to $6,000 usd, about €5,000 EUR. This is a devastating setback, but all we can do is push forward.
