I believe that Chrollo's resentment and disdain towards Kurapika is severely underestimated. However, to be fair, they only had one real interaction and barely have a dynamic, so people usually interpret them on a very surface level. Being thematic parallels doesn't equal an actual dynamic and they don't even have a traditional shounen rivalry. Kurapika's true rival is the spider as a collective entity and not just Chrollo. They are gorgeous parallels of each other but that’s it. Still, a lot can be extracted from their brief interaction and I deeply disagree with most of the popular takes out there.
I've seen countless people say Chrollo isn't actively chasing Kurapika down because he secretly understands or even forgives him on some level and I couldn't disagree more. During the course of yorknew, Chrollo never even considered Kurapika as an actual person to begin with, let alone recognised him as a mirror. The reason is simple, he just didn't care. Their interaction shows that Chrollo only viewed him as an annoying external anomaly, someone who had managed to disrupt the PT and not as some fated rival. A mutual pointed out to me that in the original JP text, Chrollo exclusively refers to Kurapika as "kusari yarou" (chain user/bastard), which totally depersonalises him. This is why I think that Kurapika is entirely insignificant in Chrollo's eyes.
During that car scene, Chrollo realises Kurapika is emotionally volatile so he deliberately weaponises his own indifference to toy with him, effectively denying Kurapika any real sense of closure regarding the massacre. Chrollo might not give a fuck about Kurapika's trauma but he is great at understanding emotions and in a way, his behaviour could be read as psychologically getting back at him. Even if he didn't show it outwardly to Kurapika, Chrollo was furious about Uvogin (his tears and the requiem prove that). His attitude in the car can be considered pure pettiness to hurt the guy who killed his friend. Which yes, is truly hypocritical considering that he and his group of friends genocided Kurapika's clan but Chrollo isn't the type to lose sleep over his crimes. He has never regretted the life he chose, so why would that change now?
While I believe that Chrollo has zero interest in Kurapika as a person, I also think he holds a massive grudge towards Kurapika for the deaths of Uvogin and Pakunoda who were his closest companions but Chrollo is a pragmatist. His philosophy dictates that the survival of the spider comes before any personal vendettas. He doesn't hunt Kurapika now for the same reason he doesn't hunt Silva, pursuing them would cause the spider more harm than good and neither of them are currently active threats to the group.
When Kurapika was an active threat though, Chrollo was way more angry and emotional. This panel is so unique because it's incredibly rare to see Chrollo look this visibly frustrated. It highlights his habit of internalising blame but it also shows the deep yet quiet resentment he carries. If an opportunity arises where he can eliminate him, Chrollo will absolutely kill him or steal his ability without a second thought.
So yeah, what I mean to convey is that while Chrollo barely cares about Kurapika as a person and has no interest in understanding his motives but he still holds hatred for what he did to the troupe. I theorise that this will become way more apparent if they cross paths again. Especially considering how Chrollo is right now, seeing Kurapika would just reopen his old wounds.
Chrollo considering Kurapika to be "just a cog that stands in the way of the Spider" but at the same time resenting him is amusing and reminds me, in a way, of Sukuna barely acknowledging Itadori but at the same time being annoyed by him because his existence conflicts with his philosophy.
And both are parallels of the other if they had been born in different environments; the difference is that Gege makes this very on the nose, and besides, the philosophical rivalry between Sukuna and Yuji is a core theme of the manga, and they have more frequent interactions than Chrollo and Kurapika.
I love this connection so much!! I'm terrible at finding connections between different series so I always love seeing other people make them. Especially when it's about jjk and hxh. I still think about the parallel you made between Kurapika-Pairo-Sheila and Nobara-Fumi-Saori all the time because it lines up so perfectly. I do kinda hope Togashi makes the Chrollo-Kurapika situation a bit more explicit at some point though. It is funny (and sad) to think that Kurapika basically planned his entire life around avenging his clan only for Chrollo to just not gaf about him on a personal level. I'm so serious when I say Kurapika should've beaten him up more, but the fact that his friends' lives mattered more to him than killing the head of the spider says so much about his character. Kurapika at his core, is just ridiculously full of love despite everything that's happened to him 🥺 Woble is going to make it clear as day to him and I'm betting on everyone's souls that Kurapika is surviving!!

Happy pride month!! I'm using this occasion to yap about Sheila x Oito's hypothetical dynamic and share some relationship headcanons! And yes I'm crossposting this from my twitter because I had so much fun writing this so I had to share this here too.
YES I KNOW THEY'VE NEVER MET, WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO SHEILA BUT SHUT UPPPPP I DON'T CARE. They're my fave women in the series!! And I, for some reason LOVE this pairing and I like what my dumbass brain came up with so here we goooooooooooo.
The defining trait of Sheila's character imo is her pursuit of freedom. She has always chased independence and refused to follow the path that was laid out for her. Oito contrasts this beautifully, she grew up in poverty and eventually married into royalty, only to discover that becoming queen placed her in a gilded cage.
The birth of Woble is what changed Oito's perspective. She realised that her daughter's future has already been decided by forces beyond her control. But instead of accepting that fate, she chooses to refuse to follow it. Just like how Sheila did.
Which is why I think Sheila and Oito would understand each other so well. They both came from poverty and they both know what it's like to have their lives shaped by their circumstances. Most importantly, they both reject the idea that their futures are already written. Sheila would never judge Oito for the choices she made because she would understand exactly why Oito made them.
Another reason I love this pairing is that they balance each other out. Sheila longs for adventure and is always moving forward in search of something new while Oito is more grounded, calm and has a presence that puts people at ease. Sheila could teach Oito how to let loose and embrace spontaneity, while Oito could become the one constant in Sheila's life, the person she would always return to.
They're also both incredibly intelligent!! I can imagine them having long conversations about the world around them. At the same time, they're both a little silly, which makes the dynamic even better. Another thing is how they both respond to power. Sheila rejected system that tried to define her, while Oito is trapped within one and gradually learns to challenge it from the inside. They arrive at the same conclusion through completely different paths, which is why I think they'd end up bonding...
Now onto the relationship headcanons!!!
1. They're both femmes and absolutely love seeing each other dressed up.
2. Sheila is surprisingly amazing with children and she earned Woble's trust pretty soon.
3. Seeing how Sheila cares for Woble is one of the things that makes Oito fall for her.
4. Sheila reads stories to Woble while Oito watches them like they hung the moon.
5. Chrollo is their wingman (the guy nobody invited LMAOOO).
6. Sheila loves doing Oito's hair.
7. Oito loves searching for books she thinks Sheila would enjoy.
8. Oito finds Sheila's rat gimmick hilariously cute.
9. Sheila is extremely awkward when it comes to romance despite appearing to be the more confident one, when it's actually Oito who is more open it comes to expressing her feelings.
10. Sheila teaches Woble games and stories from her travels.
BTW I like that the ship name could be ratroach lolol
