I grew up surrounded by the lush green rainforest and the mountains. There are only rain and shine all year through because Borneo is literally where the equator runs through, the beauty of it is that on a hot sunny day, the condensation will happen and soon enough the clouds would gather and a quick shower of rain would fall, literally cooling the world down. I didn’t realize how unique that was how specially land was until my Australian business partner Hans Peterson made that remark about how our rain actually cools down the temperature while it isn’t really the case in his country. I am truly blessed, I guess. It is so easy to take the variety of conveniences, 24 hour eateries and 24 hour deliveries at our finger tips on mobile apps, the smorgasbord of food from various cultures worldwide converged on our plates and one thing that most are not aware of is that we love our food and we are pretty flexible when it comes to our tastebuds, we eat almost anything from the world! If you visit Malaysia, the food trail adventure is one that is worth going for, you won’t regret it! The different colors, the different languages, the different tones and all these differences made us Malaysians, Hans said he didn’t know much about Malaysia before he visited, only heard of the Petronas Twin Towers but we have so much more that isn’t known to the world. I took a look at him, gave him a meaningful smile and said Maybe it’s better that way. Only those with affinity will visit Malaysia. There is no mystery in why we feel so deeply for the suffering of certain people while we don’t resonate at all to the suffering of other people or certain issues in the world. Just like how people don’t feel connected to all 7 billion people in the world and only with a small group of people they met… one cannot feel the pain of hunger or even start to understand how hunger feels like until you have had experienced hunger yourself in the first place. If you have been through hardship and pain, chances are you would understand the pain someone else is going through when undergoing a similar predicament or situation like yours. It’s important to be discerning and not bond out of “trauma bonding” - where the connection is made because you are solely connected in the pain that’s shared, with very little effort to get out of the loop of suffering. No pain, no gain. True empathy has a tinge of compassion for yourself and the person who empathise with… NOT toxic suffering which perpetuateD the pain and hurt longer than necessary. Well meaning advices over the years told me not to be too showy because I would be under the limelight, blinded by the spotlight and I won’t be able to see “the enemy” who remains in the dark. People are malicious and will bring me down, I was told. I was told I was too naive and too trusting so I am fair game to conmen out there. I exposed too much too soon, apparently. Over the years, I’ve had my share of experiences where I suffered from betrayal, cheating, a lot of pain and still I choose to trust in people. With each experience, I grew firmer, longer roots, I became more grounded. Come what may, I know better now. I am less reactive now. If they continue to run their mouth, it’s their mouth, it’s their free will. I just don’t associate with them that much or at all. Especially when they are “family” or relatives, I learned to be stoic and calm in the face of the storm and for once the guilt tripping didn’t work and they “lost” the power over my heart. When I don’t feel bad for making that choice, they knew that I am no longer under their control. No more emotional blackmail. No more guilty conscience. No more manipulation. I don’t blame them. I am not a victim. They didn’t know any better. I know better so I choose to remain firmly grounded. The Chinese proverb literally translates to; Big Tree Attracts Wind. We can’t stop the “wind”, the only way is to go deeper, grow stronger roots and be so still and firm in your own core being that no matter how strong the wind, you will never falter, you will never fall. When you put out the vibes and someone answered, magic happens! I surely believe in magic. Someone I’ve never met physically before made me fall in love with him more than 18 years ago and I am still married to him. I’ve never met many of my clients in person, maybe zoom calls, and that’s it but the connection is real. This is only the fourth time I physically met Kriska Pineda and we successfully conducted a Divine Feminine workshop this weekend! It actually immediately evolved into a beautiful sisterhood and tribe of younger and older women (the participants) coming together to support each other. She said “yes” to me from the get go. When Kriska asked me why did I trust her so easily, I just said “You’ll get used to it.” This is me hahaha. Love and trust first. Those who stays are meant to stay.
