I am a PASSIONATE commenter on fanfiction, but sometimes it slows down my reading because I don't want to read if I don't have the mental energy to leave the long comments I want to
Still, as an author, I know even a short note can mean the world.
So, I put together a little guide with different âlevelsâ of comments, so itâs easier to leave something without overthinking!
something that I feel like is missing from fandom nowadays is the idea that you dont have to have a unified, chronologically/tonally consistent interpretation of your favorite work. your fics dont have to fit within the same version of canon, even if theyre all canon-compliant on their own. your headcanons can contradict each other. be a multishipper. write metas that take two totally different interpretations of the same plot point. write a character as a villain and then write them as the hero next time. write a character as a lesbian and then write them as straight next time! engage in hypotheticals and drop them when you get bored! make up the rules as you go!! have fun with it!!!

all media mentioned in pete wentzâs blogs, 2001-2015
heyyy! so, iâm starting a project where iâm collecting all the media (music, movies, etc.) from pete wentzâs blogspots & livejournals. which sounds slightly insane. itâs currently under construction, but iâve done 2001; if you want to track my progress the document link is here, but iâll reblog this post with more detailed updates! also, please comment on the doc if you notice any mistakes, cause iâm definitely no historian! i just love internet & music history so iâm loving doing this :3c
sooo, for 2001 there was a lot of bands mentioned, mainly those he played shows with (as part of both arma angelus and fall out boy) but also some he was inspired by/listening to. apart from michael jackson, the cure and slipknot, this playlist has some real forgotten & hidden gems of the scene! the playlist is here, and the list of artists will be right at the bottom. for the playlist though i added what would have been the mentioned artistâs latest release at the time (with some exceptions i noted in the doc), plus obviously any albums and songs specifically mentioned.
also mentioned was âunrestrainedâ magazine and âhanging like a hexâ fanzine, both of which as far as i know were fairly niche but some archived versions can be found online. archives also exist of the websites superherohq.com & armaangelus.com on the wayback machine. loyola radio station was referenced too but i didnât really do much digging there, it might be the university radio or it might not be, iâm unsure. either way i assumed there wouldnât be much content regarding either arma angelus or fob, just felt it was worth mentioning.
for films, iâm expecting more to appear in later years, but the only one mentioned was lord of the rings (which based on the year was almost certainly âfellowship of the ringâ). iâve started a letterboxd list (this will include films from all years, compared to the playlists which had to be split for length) but itâs literally one movie so far soooâŚ..
anyway thanks for reading my rambles! as promised the band list is under the cut. expect more updates here soon :p
byeee!!
here is a full list of the bands he mentioned. as i said before there are more detailed notes in the doc itself about specifics of when/why they came up, etc. most of these are on spotify with a couple exeptions. enjoyyy
2002 is completed! in the posts masterdoc i'm using (found here) he stopped posting on july 8th 2002, and posted again on january 8th, 2003, so its only half a year's worth of media. but there is a lot, so let's get started!
[ my doc / 2002's spotify playlist / letterboxd list ]
detailed notes on each specific artist, movie etc. (such as how they were mentioned or why i picked the film i did if there were two with the same title...) are in the doc. this is more of a summary post!
again, most of the music mentioned is from people he played shows with, with some that he listened to aswell. i excluded artists which had been mentioned in 2001 and had not had any new releases by the time of the post they were mentioned in, as well as excluding arma angelus and fall out boy. and, as above, i added the artist's latest release, as well as any albums or songs specifically mentioned. more detail is in the doc, and the full list of music is at the bottom of the post.
there were no magazines mentioned, but website-wise the deadtofall band website was mentioned, as well as spookycityusa.com, which the wayback machine had no info on so i'd appreciate any input on that one! miscellaneous mentions were of banana republic the clothing retailer and hellfest, a hardcore music festival which ended in 2005 but returned this year with some major bands like korn, judas priest & the sex pistols! (unnecessary info but i thought it was cool XD)
i don't have any way of compiling all the tv shows in a playlist or whatever, but since there have been so few so far i assume it will stay that way and will just list them in these posts. mentioned this year were MTV show "the real world" and "the incredible hulk".
finally, there were a lot of movies mentioned this year--not all of them positively, but i included all of them anyways. again, further notes are on the doc, but a chunk are superhero movies/comic adaptations as he ranked them, with not many of them being what would have been new releases at the time. specific notes for the dates they were mentioned are on the letterboxd list (linked above), and the full list of titles is down at the bottom along with the music!
thanks for reading! expect more updates, although probably at a fairly slow pace with school starting again. this is just for fun so i'm not pressuring myself to do this quickly at all. you can keep updated more frequently if you check on the googledoc itself, where i'll be updating as i go along before i compile the stuff from that year and post it here as a reblog.
byeee!!
full band list is here! if they aren't available on spotify they are still listed here. there will be duplicates from the previous list, but those repeats may or may not be on the playlist. again, more detailed notes in the doc itself!

NOTE: from now on i'll be including all the info under the cut rather than just the bands etc., so there's less scrolling. i edited 2002's post but i can't edit the original post, sooo sorry about that.
as above: the masterdoc i'm using is found at this link. his first post of the year was january 8 2003, and the last post is december 9. the links are as follows:
[ my doc / 2003's spotify playlist / letterboxd list ]
a note on one thing i wrote in the doc & previous post, which i have since edited - i wasn't sure what "that one saves the day song" was referring to but @saturday-is-so-two-years-ago mentioned the song might be "jodie", as apparently the members of fall out boy (pete included) really liked saves the day at the time and jodie was a song with a significant impact on both the band and the scene itself! as always its a best guess but it would fit the best, so thanks saturday!! as i stated, though, the playlist hasn't been amended, but the doc has.
detailed notes on each specific artist, movie etc. (such as how they were mentioned or why i picked the film i did with the same title...) are in the doc. this is more of a summary post!
here we go!
there were plenty of repeated mentioned, so the playlist isn't quite as long this time (see the previous post for why i omitted or re-added certain artists to playlists!) the full list of music and films mentioned is at the bottom as always.
there were no magazines mentioned this time. website-wise, there were only three. there were straylight run's band website, throwingstarDNA's livejournal ("my friend guav's live journal") which had pictures of the two in new york (i couldn't find the exact post and pictures on the wayback machine 'cause the link had been trawled about three times, but if anyone knows what post/pictures were mentioned please let me know!), and finally absolutepunk.net, where he was doing guest recommendations.
a fair few mentions fit into the miscellaneous category, and were the following: the books "harry potter and the order of the phoenix" and one not mentioned by name, but likely "fugitives and refugees" by chuck palahniuk; the radio takeover concert tour; music producers M2, fuse, island records and def jam records; the Q101 radio station; and the lifetime channel. as always there is specific info on the doc!
one tv show was mentioned: "life with busey" a.k.a. the one-season show "i'm with busey". fewer movies were mentioned this time, but it was generally positively. more details are on the letterboxd list, too, and the full list is at the bottom.
finally, music he mentioned was a mix of artists he played with and listened to, with this time there being a fair amount of 70s-80s music and 2000s rap. this time i included fall out boy songs mentioned by name in the playlist, but as always i excluded them and arma angelus from the playlist in general.
without further ado, here are all the artists mentioned, available on spotify/on the playlist or not. there will be duplicates from previous lists if the mentions are repeated, and more info is on my doc!

("isola" by kent)

my life with morrissey
glengarry glen ross
the blob
the thing
the howling
thanks for reading! again, these posts are going to be pretty infrequent but if you want to see more consistent updates you can follow along with the googledoc before its compiled.
i'm back! just before we start:
if you can't find the other playlists through my spotify profile its because i don't use spotify to listen to music anymore; for the sake of continuity i'm continuing to use it to make playlists for this project specifically!
again, the masterdoc i'm using is found at this link. his first post of the year was january 9 2004, and the last post is december 31. the links are as follows:
[ my doc / 2004's spotify playlist / letterboxd list ]
no edits this time, but i have been doing this sporadically so i may have missed something that i DID edit. there is a LOT here. all the media mentioned is under the cut, and as always:
detailed notes on each specific artist, movie etc. (such as how they were mentioned or why i picked the film i did with the same title...) are in the doc. this is more of a summary post!
magazine-wise, only alternative press was mentioned as FOB were on the cover. there were the most websites mentioned so far, including band websites for nightmare of you, the point, and christopher strange (i think? though this site couldn't be crawled on the wayback); merch stores for clandestine industries and fuelled by ramen; and the following miscellaneous sites:
trustkill.com, a top ten list for music in 2003 as far as i could figure
tim biedron's, a friend of pete's, art website
fuelledbyramen.com/journal, with images he couldn't upload to his blog
a job predictor website
heychris' livejournal, with images of the FOB cover of alternative press
an mtvu contest to win a trip to LA and sit in the studio with FOB (SHOULD'VE BEEN ME!!!)
books mentioned were the boy with the thorn in his side, great expectations, the stranger and the heart is deceitful above all things; authors mentioned were edgar allen poe, albert camus, chuck palahniuk, sharon olds, and roald dahl; and the book characters ferdinand the bull, max (where the wild things are) and willy wonka were also mentioned.
videogames mentioned were knights of the old republic (1 and 2), the lord of the rings: the third age, grand theft auto: san andreas, and "star wars jedi academy ii", which i took to mean either jedi knight ii: jedi outcast or jedi knight: jedi academy. console-wise, there was the atari, xbox, and ps2.
finally, other miscellaneous mentions were calliope cafe ("a sandwich joint on diversy"), oven fresh and MTVU (cable channels, as far as i know), heychris' zine (couldn't find a specific link or anything for this), earthlink (internet/phone provider), and hot topic (the american store).
five tv shows were mentioned: aqua teen hunger force, the american music awards (i know its not technically a show, but whatever), home movies, arrested development and tom goes to the mayor.
this time i'll list the movies mentioned first since there is a LOT of music mentioned. as i said, all of these are on the letterboxd list with dates and quotes, with more details on the doc.
amĂŠlie
the triplets of belleville
dawn of the dead
flight of the navigator
harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban
release the bats (mentioned in reference to behind-the-scenes stuff and prescreenings, as the dvd wasn't actually out yet)

indiana jones and the last crusade
the ewok adventure
ewoks: the battle for endor
star wars episode ii: attack of the clones

the life aquatic with steve zissou
aaand finally, music he mentioned was a mix of artists he played with, were friends with, and listened to, dominated by the former couple. i included fall out boy songs mentioned by name in the playlist, but as always i excluded them from the playlist in general.
without further ado, here is the insane amount artists mentioned, available on spotify/on the playlist or not. there will be duplicates from previous lists if the mentions are repeated!

if you got here, wow! thanks for reading! i am very on-and-off with this project now but if you want to see updates more frequently than these posts, you can follow along with the googledoc before its compiled.
We should talk more about how much Frodo loves and cares about Sam. I feel like with like in so many fellow samfro posts a focus is put mainly on Sam's love and devotion for Frodo â which is absolutely fair, because it is true and he is always very vocal about it! You can feel his love for Frodo flowing through his every action and word and passage and conversation he has with him.
But, on the other hand, Frodo's love for Sam, while quieter (mainly because he is going through genually terrible times for the biggest part of the story), is no less noticeable.
Frodo is always the first one to take care of Sam and make sure his wishes are fulfilled. He is informed about Sam going with him and his first thought is about how happy Sam would be to see elves, not the hardhips of his own journey. He is always here to make sure Sam isn't overworking himself and isn't carrying heavy lifting more than he should â which is, ouch â he doesn't let other people to treat him unfairly or command him.
He notes Sam with an additional epitet from the rest of the Fellowship and mentions how hard it is for him to leave when he decides to go and finish the quest alone. Sam is the first person he thiks about after waking up in Rivendell, and the only one he calls by name. He doesn't let Sam to sacrifice himself on his behalf on multiple occasions, including stopping him from descending first without a rope just in case "he doesn't want Frodo to fall with him", nor he lets him drink water first in Mordor "in case it's poisoned". He convices seem to eat and sleep and at least once deliberately doesn't wake him up just so he could rest. He was being tortured in the lands of Sauron and yet absolutely refused to move until Sam gets some rest and drinks some water.
He calles him his dearest hobbit and his friends of friends. He thinks Sam is the central character of his story and cherishes the fact he makes him laugh. He wants to hear stories about Sam more than he wishes to hear stories about himself. He is ready to slit Gollum's throat (a creature he repeatedly empathises the importance of mercy for down the line) for hurting Sam. He can recognise Sam's voice while unconscious and in pain and away from him. He compares Sam's voice to sunshine in Shire.
And this is not ever the full list. Frodo Baggins loves Samwise Gamgee so much I am not sure any hobbit has loved another one this much before.

actually yknow what??? mike wheeler is going to listen to good luck babe in 2024 and he is going to wince and look over at will in the passenger seat who is also looking at him going âyou better be fucking glad you didnât fumble meâ
"This has been welling for a while now. Dark magic cloistered within him, desperate for escape; and now, as the injured Party are scattered and half-defenceless against the dirt, the creatures circling them moving slowly, cruelly (if such animals are capable of cruelty), it sees its means of release."
or: a mini fantasy au rewrite of the s5 vol1 finale!!
they really shouldve just given holly's plotline to mike.
imagine the chaos of the madwheeler duo running rampant in vecnas mind.
imagine them being forced to see each others worst memories and recognising the real reason they butt heads so often is because they just cant stand how similar they really are.
imagine they fight because theyre still in denial about their similarities because theyre both self hating idiots, and/or they have some sort of disagreement, maybe about how to escape or maybe max confronts him about how he's treated el in the past.
imagine that right as tensions are highest, they stumble into another memory and max finds out that mikes big secret is that hes in love with will. and he expects her to berate him. to yell at him, say she just knew there was something wrong with him, but of course she doesn't. she just hugs him and tells him its okay. and he's so caught off guard that he doesn't even react at first, but then piece by piece he just starts to break down and cry into her shoulder, because its such a relief to finally just admit it to someone, and the fact that max, someone who isnt very fond of him on a good day, still accepts him honestly just makes her the perfect person to admit it to.
imagine she opens up to him about how it wasn't the music that saved her at all, it was her connection, her love for lucas, and that if he wants to escape he has to accept the same thing for himself. he has to realize what love really tethers him to this world.

mike not saying i love you back to el when she's DYING proves to me that the subtext was on purpose. but why they didn't pay it off i have no fucking clue
one benefit of s5 being bad for likeâŚ.. every ship except stonathan is people probably wonât stop writing fics and stuff for a WHILE. like i am so excited for the finale rewrites đ
