* I'M THE ONE AT THE SAIL.

      rook’s all smiles all the time. well, most of the time. still! at this very moment he is smiling and looking like he doesn’t belong in this general area at all. it’s hard not to stick out when he’s dressing in such vibrant clothes and speaking as loudly as he is.  “ you, ”  he points to gain the attention of who he’s made eye contact with.  “ i need help. ”

         he’s a mess most of the time. okay maybe all the time. but some days are just a little worse than others. today he’s found himself on the streets nursing a hangover that seems to have lasted all week with his breakfast coming back up and all over this poor man’s shoes.  “ oh fuck, ”  he manages once he stands back to his full height.  “ my bad. ”

      the coven is always busy. it’s loud, it’s bright, it’s a party that never ends. sire’s always found on the balcony looking over the dance floor. a perfect view to watch people destroy their lives. but, sometimes he likes to join the party and mingle around. his hand circles around a thicker tattooed wrist and he eyes the man he’s stopped from reaching out any further.  “ you don’t wanna drink that one. ”

       “ hm, i’d personally tell ‘em to bite me but -- ”  she shrugs and it’s that kind of talk that makes people wonder how this girl comes from high blood.  “ i could teach you. ”  her legs swing from where she’s perched and she picks between her teeth with a fingernail.  “ i’ve had such proper training after all. ”

      “ unfortunately i am not that lucky. ”  he looks to oddleif and gives a shadow of a teasing smile. it’s all he can do to try and keep from being so grim. odd makes it easier.  “ this is oddleif, just a good friend. ”  he picks at the rations given to him. it’s not much but he knows better than to complain when he’s aboard a ship taking him to safety from the blight.  “ my wife passed years ago. ”

he takes his food quietly, only barely glancing up to alyssa.  “ i’m sorry about your brother. ”  he finally gives because he knows he’s not the only one here who is grieving.  “ and i’m sure your mother didn’t mean the things she said to you. ”

        after watching her stand to her feet, he shifts idly in his spot, not yet ready to join her. it’s moments like these where he misses aldis most. he thinks she would know how to speak to alette better in moments like these. those sort of woman to woman talks that he never really understood. he won’t force her to open, in that he knows better. eventually, in moments that feel like minutes instead, he nods and rises to his feet with a wince. the cold weather aches his joints.  “ come then. ”  he brings her closer to him as he guides her back to the tent, if only to comfort her and feel more helpful.
