@intoxthextrees / for thaniel.
    the scene starts with a boy walking out of a friendâs home. heâs got a smile painted across his face but a glossy eyed look that screams heâs not in his right mind. he walks as straight as he can but canât help a few stumbles as he walks down the path and into the driveway where his motherâs car sits parked. he had begged her most of the day to take it and now that he had his license, he was always eager to borrow his parentsâ rides.Â
heâs got liquor on his breath. told his drunk friends that he was fine to drive because he only had a few and it took way more than that to get him wasted. like drinking water he laughed and they let him take the keys to his motherâs car and walk out the door without a second glance. theyâre not very good friends, in the end.Â
the road is quiet and empty, because itâs late and most everyone is asleep by now. but, in codyâs mind, those people donât know how to have a good time. but, this good time is almost his last.Â
he canât quite recall how it happened. maybe he saw something in the road. maybe he dozed off for a second. itâs all a blur in his mind and it ends with the front end of his motherâs car completely smashed against a thick trunked tree, the sound of sirens from a cop and an ambulance parked on the road beside him, and his face bleeding and body sore.Â
he got lucky, they claim. who knows how long he would have been there if it werenât for a man finishing a late shift at work and driving past the wreck. itâs amazing he didnât die and only emerged with a few stitches in his forehead and a cracked rib or two. but, as they toss him in the jail cell and tell him to make his phone call, he keeps those details away.
     â dad? â he sounds tired and heâs got the tone in his voice that screams heâs done something wrong.  â i... â whatâs he supposed to say? how does he word this in a way that wonât freak his father out?  â youâre gonna be super pissed about this but i... iâm in jail. â he swallows, hanging his head in shame already.  â i need you to bail me out... â
