Most of these people aren't nazis, and this does actually help when you try to relate to people as fellow human beings and there is a lot of commonality to be found. You'll be hard pressed to find a single unwavering political opinion among regular people, or anyone who describes themselves as a conservative with a hard C among working people.
"As for people who are politically backward, Communists should not slight or despise them, but should befriend them, unite with them, convince them and encourage them to go forward." -Mao Zedong
In this period of historic unpopularity with both parties, this is the exact wrong opinion to have. I happen to fully agree with arguing on this In regards to securing the right to medical privacy because forces like the supreme court don't want to be having an ideological referendum on the finer points of our theory (definitely none of us should either) and none of this is a compromise, the blame for making it feel like it is that can be levied entirely at the feet of democrats. A lot of your neighbors are conservatives because their parents were and when you see failure after failure come from the opposition party.... you're not above these people.
