“not that i can remember.” cole amends because maybe he had gotten a shadow when he had become more human and just never noticed it or maybe it had shown up when he had arrived at the park. he stares at the dark mark on the ground and moves an arm out, watching as the movement was mimicked. “i’m mostly sure. i know that other people have shadows but being a ghost...” his lips purse together before he continues. “i never had one.”

❝At some point we have to let go.❞

he gives her a small smile in return. “i am glad, it has been a long time since i have had a friend.” of course, most of the inquisition members were his friends but they weren’t here and even if they were, he was sure they would be busy. “was, i’m mostly human now but i can still hear the voices.” the one’s that let him know things about people, that let him help. “i hope so as well, modesty.”

cole returns the smile, just a bit, before speaking again. “i’m still adjusting to being human,” he starts slowly, “i’ve heard people talking about films but i’ve never seen one...”

“i will.. definitely let you know.” it was tempting to say that he already wanted to kiss more but he wasn’t sure if that was just because it was new to him.

“you sound like the iron bull.” and the words are a compliment, even if the other probably doesn’t know that. the only change in demeanor as he says it is a small smile. “just one, i suppose. i’ve never had alcohol before. i don’t know how it will effect me.” but he had seen how it effected others.

“i think ill just keep you company while you drink.” cole responds, softly, tilting his head slightly to the side as he studies the male, focusing in on him more than was probably proper or polite.

cole is silent for a moment before explaining. “when i first came out of the face, i thought that i was a human.. and then my friend told me that i was demon and told me that we could no longer be friends.” the silence stretches as he considers that, “and then the inquisitor and varric told me i was a ghost but there was a moment when..something happened and now i truly am human.”

“i’m still not used to it.” brows furrow inward briefly. “having a human body hurts sometimes and you need to remember to eat. i never needed to remember that before.” his rambles are soft before he looks at the boy again. “i can’t hear people as well anymore, it makes it harder for me to help them.” though he still did whenever an opportunity presented itself.

“that wasn’t bad at all,” cole speaks softly, taking a moment before he can open his eyes again and look at the other. “i see why people like doing that.”

“i hope that you are right. i would like to be your friend.” cole responds after a moment, there’s still that glimmer of doubt and he wants to tell her the truth so badly but it’s not his place. “magical? no, the boy before was magical and they treated him horribly so i vowed not to use magic.” a pause. “i am - or was - a ghost.” and it’s weird to say it in the past tense, to remember that the inquisitor had helped him becomes more human. “if anyone ever hurts you, please let me know.”

cole is used to feeling other people’s emotions, which means he can tell that scorpius is agitated even if he doesn’t know why and not knowing why means he can’t come up with a solution. still, perhaps a distraction - the boy leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to the other’s nose before pulling away and tilting his head. “what’s wrong?”
