A Wrong Digit (Pt 6)
Main characters: Tom Sturridge, Reader
When you came home that day, you couldn't help but bring your hand to your lips. A smile appeared on your face. Mia was right. You'd realized it yourself.
You like him...
It wasn't really right for you. To love someone older than you. You never dared to love anyway but your opinions changed after meeting Tom. It was as if a completely different life had opened up before your eyes.
Different ideas
A different lifestyle
Different requests.
You changed your clothes. For some reason, you seemed happy. You were normally a bored girl who didn't enjoy life. You were the kind of girl everyone hated, the one who didn't even want to talk to anyone. Now it was as if someone else had taken his place.
Comfortable pajamas and a messy bun. That was you. You looked at yourself in the mirror. At that moment, you truly felt valued. You sat down at your desk. You took out your books. You started studying. The small light illuminated the room somewhat. At least you could see what you were reading. That was enough.
You looked at the clock. It was getting late. What had Tom done? He'd probably fallen asleep. Or maybe she's thinking about a kiss, just like you.
The screen's light flashed. You thought, "Tom." A huge disappointment. Mia. You joined the conversation.
"Hey girl, where did you disappear to? We've been looking for you! Where did you go with Tom?"
Your fingers moved quickly across the keyboard. You pressed the send button. She was going to ask a ton of questions again. Typical best friend behavior.
"We were just bored at the party. There was too much noise. We went to the park too."
She was probably giggling on the other end of the phone. That's why she was replying so late.
"What did you do?"
And yes. Questions... You took a deep breath.
"Nothing... We just chatted, that's all."
"Do you think you can fool me? A voice inside me says you've done more than that, Y/n."
You remembered the kiss, a smirk appearing at the corners of your lips. Mia was probably waiting for you excitedly.
"Just one kiss."
You smiled while waiting. The books were forgotten. Studying was forgotten. You were only curious about what Mia would write.
"Wow... Wow... Wow... You're faster than me, girl."
"Mia..."
"What? I'm telling the truth. You only met twice. And you immediately kissed him on the lips. You're fast."
A giggle spread across her face as she read it. The gentle sound of rain outside calmed his soul.
"I hate myself for this."
"Hey, don't say that. After that idiotic ex-boyfriend, this is amazing."
That's how Mia was. She always badmouthed her ex-boyfriend, in every situation. No matter the topic. You sighed.
"Anyway, I have to go, I have classes to study."
"Couldn't you take a break, Y/n? You're always working anyway. Anyway. I wish you all the best in your work."
Red heart. You hung up the phone. Of course you couldn't work. Thoughts. Oh, these thoughts... Tiring...
Tom
Kiss
Mia
More things. It was all exhausting to think about. You made yourself a steaming hot cup of coffee. Maybe that would help. You put your phone on airplane mode. You didn't have to put it on airplane mode. Besides, who would be texting at this hour anyway? You looked at the clock one last time.
2 AM
You took a sip of coffee, picked up your pen, and began to work. The pen lingered between your lips as you read the article. You were tired. Working after the party was really tiring. It would have been better if you hadn't gone to the party, but you couldn't refuse Mia.
If you hadn't gone, there wouldn't have been a memorable moment for you. There wouldn't be a moment to make you smile. You wouldn't have fun.
Your eyes were slowly closing. The pen fell to the floor. It woke you up. You were really tired now. You fell asleep at the table before going to bed.
—
You slowly opened your eyes as the alarm suddenly rang. The morning light illuminated the room. You looked around. You looked at the clock.
No message. Just two unnecessary emails.
You sighed, went to the kitchen, and made yourself some coffee—ice-cold coffee to wake you up. You went to the bathroom. You took a hot shower. You wrapped the horn around your body.
Classic routine
As soon as you got out of the shower, you grabbed your coffee and went to your room. You got dressed and put on makeup. A simple floral dress and your hair tied up.
When you received a notification on your phone, you approached the table where your phone was and picked it up.
Why were you looking at it? It was probably an email. You unlocked the phone using the button. The time appeared. A couple of emails and a message at the bottom of the email.
Tom: "Good morning, madam."
Your eyes sparkled. You smiled. You've entered the message. Her slender fingers moved across the keyboard.
"Good morning. Did you wake up for me, or are you waking up at this hour?"
You grabbed the keys to leave the house while waiting for a message. Just as you were turning off the lights, a message notification sounded.
"Did you forget? I'm an actor. I wake up early to go to the set."
"Oh, right. I forgot. I'm sorry, university has been a bit stressful lately."
"Ah, I understand. You don't need to apologize, ma'am. My job is very tiring. I memorize a hundred sentences a day."
"Wow... Quite a lot."
He smiled as an emoji. You smiled. You continued writing.
"Did you learn how to use the phone?"
"Yes, I know almost half of it. I'll learn the rest of it too. Dean is helping and, of course, teasing. It's so frustrating."
Laughter escaped your lips. He probably would have been angry if he had seen that. You hung up the phone. You went to university.
—
Tom got up. He made coffee and drank it. This time he neatly combed his hair. He put on his shirt and tucked it into his trousers. He put on his black sunglasses, which everyone loved so much. He left the house.
He was tired from filming. He drank water. In his new film, he played a man's friend. That's why it was boring. At least, that's how it seemed to him.
Exhausted in the final scenes He wasn't in a state to think about anyone. He just wanted to go home and sleep. It would normally be like this, but he thought of you. Your lips. Your smile. He had recovered somewhat.
—
You had barely spoken for a week. His film work, your university. He didn't even cross your mind anymore. Mia's boring speeches and invitations to the party were typical, normal things.
You wanted something new. Strange. Diffrent. That's why you went to the bar. You don't normally drink, but it's university. The exams had exhausted you.
You walked through the bar door. You sat down in one of the swivel chairs and asked the waiter for a drink. The waiter placed your drink in front of you. You looked at the drink. You picked it up and immediately drank it in one gulp.
Actually, it wasn't just one glass. More followed. Two? Three? Four? Maybe 5 glasses at most. You checked your phone. There were no messages from anyone. Just... The diploma slot is full.
You looked up from your phone when a man sat down next to you. You looked at the man. He looked like someone who was only a few years older than you. He ordered a drink. Because you weren't in your right mind, you looked at almost every part of the man's body.
You bit your lip. You drank the last sip in the glass. The man looked at you.
"Hey hey, what are you doing? You can't just suddenly start drinking like that."
You looked at the man. Your eyes were closing from the alcohol. You were staggering because you weren't used to it. Your gaze shifted to the man. He had been worried about you.
"I'm fine, no problem."
You stood up and stumbled, bumping into someone. They looked taller than you.
"I apologize. I...-"
When you looked up, the man seemed very familiar. You widened your eyes. No, it can't be...
Tom....
He was looking at you in surprise. He was surprised you were drinking like that. You told him you weren't drinking. You whispered to yourself.
"Damn it!"
"Y/n, what are you doing here? Come on. Let's go, I'll take you home."
To your house? Did he know your address? Mia had probably told him. Oh, Mia.
You got into a taxi carefully. You was muttering something. It was incomprehensible. You rested your head on his shoulder. He looked at you. Oh my God, it was embarrassing.
He pulled you out of the taxi and paid for what was probably a very cheap fare. He grabbed you and pulled you towards him. When you reached the front door of the house, he managed to take the key from your pocket.
You walked in. He put the key on the table, closed the door, and held you. His steps were slow. He led you to the bed. He put you to bed. You writhed in pain. He simply carefully removed your shoes and threw them on the floor. He didn't touch anything else.
Tom came closer to you. He sat on the edge of the bed. You were still muttering something. He pushed the strand of hair that had fallen across your face aside, behind your ear.
For some reason, it felt warm, as if I'd known you for years. It's as if you've met before in your previous life. He withdrew his hand. He stood up. He wanted to leave. He couldn't stay here. Just as she was about to leave, you grabbed her arm. Your eyes were closed, and you whispered something.
"Stay..."
It's just a simple phrase, but it carries thousands of meanings. Should he have done it? Or should he have gone home? He had never been so indecisive in his life.
Finally
He lay down beside you calmly. Tom didn't do anything. He just stood there. He watched her face. He was going to leave early anyway.
You clung to him like an octopus. His eyes remained open. For a while. Then he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer.
What have I done? He muttered to himself.
Tom sighed. A moment later, the sounds of their breathing mingled together. Peace. There was only peace in the middle of it all and two people embracing each other.
End of Chapter 6
A Wrong Digit (Pt 5)
Main characters: Tom Sturridge, Reader
Notes: I liked this look for the reader. I think they suit each other.
Did you really like him? You shook your head and looked at Mia.
"No, just an ordinary person. Not my type."
"You're fooling yourself, Y/n. You liked him, just admit it. Your eyes are sparkling with joy. We've been friends for six years. I know you."
You sighed wearily. You finished your coffee and picked up your bag. Your friend stopped you immediately.
"Okay, I won't talk about him. There's a party tonight, are you coming?"
You opened your bag, took out your lipstick, and held the mirror steady as you applied it to your delicate lips. Mira waited for an answer. Your lips gleamed with lipstick; you put both in your bag. You looked at Mira with a bored expression. You pursed your lips.
"I'm completely exhausted."
"Come on Y/n, I don't want to go alone. Um...I met someone new."
You smiled immediately. In the end, unlike you, your friend had met someone new and fallen in love. You had also met someone, but you weren't in love.
"Oh... Now I understand. He invited you, didn't he?"
"Yes. And his friend is coming too. That's why he said to bring his friend as well."
"Mia, you know I'm not interested in men anymore."
Mia opened her eyes wide, like a tiny kitten, and looked pitiful. She pouted. You sighed inwardly.
"Okay, fine... I'll be there. Now I need to go home. I have classes to study."
Mia opened her arms wide with joy. She hugged you. She smiled.
"Dress stylishly"
You started walking home without saying anything. You had to go to that party to avoid upsetting your friend. You had no interest in men.
—
Tom left the set looking exhausted. His phone wouldn't stop ringing. Because of his friend. He opened his phone with a weary sigh and checked the messages. His friend had written a lot. He had begged him. He had only replied with "okay."
The moment your friend exited the messaging app, their eyes landed on your number. It seemed like they wanted to invite you too. But they hesitated. After all, you weren't used to parties. You were a well-behaved girl. You studied, you didn't drink alcohol, you didn't smoke.
He hung up the phone. He went straight to the party without going home. He was already dressed appropriately for the party. He walked through the party entrance. A noisy and crowded party greeted him. He started looking for his friend.
He saw his friend from a distance. He went over to him. Dean smiled as soon as he saw him. He hugged him. Tom was unhappy. He had only come for his friend.
"Hey, smile a little, buddy. My girlfriend and her friend will be here soon. I don't want them to think badly of you."
He sighed; he had no idea why he was at this boring and tedious party. He felt like going home and sleeping; his eyelids were tired.
"Hey, here they come!"
Tom Dean's loud voice pulled him out of his thoughts, and his eyes shifted to where his friend was pointing. He stared in surprise. Had he seen wrong? You... You were coming.
Your eyes widened when you saw her. Your heart started racing. Mia was walking beside you, completely unaware of what was happening. You approached them. You were still surprised.
"You...."
You said, laughing. Mia and Dean stared at you, completely bewildered. Finally, Mia spoke, breaking the eye contact between the two of you.
"Wait a minute, do you two know each other?"
You were about to open your mouth when Tom interrupted. He smiled.
"Yes. We know each other."
You froze. You were breathless. You drank the beverage in the glass in front of you in an instant. Tom grinned as Mia and Dean still watched you in astonishment.
"I didn't know."
"Me too" Dean added.
This was exactly what Mia wanted. A foursome date. But you weren't very interested. Mia leaned closer to your ear while Dean and Tom were chatting with each other.
"Or is that man you call Tom... this man? He's more handsome than I thought."
You remained indifferent. How could such a coincidence have happened? Or was Tom right? Was this your destiny?
Mia giggled while you sipped your drink. You were still in shock. You looked at Tom. He was handsome again. Just like the day you met. You couldn't help but think about it. The curve of his lips, his gaze, his smile...
You looked away from Tom and pushed your thoughts aside when Mia nudged you. You swallowed. Dean smiled and looked at the two of you.
"So, tell us about it. How did you meet?"
You both dropped your mouths. Mia and Dean laughed. Tom continued.
"She misspelled the last digit of the number. She wrote it to me. That's how we met."
Mia laughed along with Dean.
"Wow, it's completely a coincidence."
Mia grinned, looking at the two of them after Dean left.
"Love thrives on coincidences, doesn't it?"
You nudged Mia.
"Mia!"
Mia looked at you and frowned.
"What?"
You fell silent. Tom laughed. A beautiful romantic song started playing at the party. Things calmed down. The noise subsided. Everyone invited their partners to dance. Mia and Dean joined them. You sipped your drinks while watching them.
Tom approached you, extended his hand, and smiled. He clearly wanted to invite you to dance.
"Would you do me the honor of dancing with me, madam?"
A smile involuntarily appeared on his lips. You took his hand and walked onto the dance floor. You started dancing. His hand was on your waist. You rested your head on his shoulder and closed your eyes. You swayed. It was very romantic. You could even smell it. A faint ocean scent. Clean and beautiful.
Mia and Dean were giggling and watching you, but you were both engrossed in dancing. You didn't notice. Tom grinned. He inhaled the scent of your hair. The smell of shampoo.
The dance is over. You've taken your seats. You whispered in his ear.
"Very beautiful dance. Thanks."
Tom smiled mockingly, leaned closer to her ear, and whispered.
"You are thanking me very much, madam."
You smiled shyly. Mia and Dean were engrossed in their conversation while you looked around. Tom's hand was close to yours. They were almost touching. Your little fingers were touching. You both noticed, but you did nothing. You didn't say anything.
"Should we leave here? It's too noisy. I have a headache."
You looked at her. Actually, you wanted to leave too; there was too much noise. You shook your head. You left Mia and Dean to their own devices. You both walked out. You felt relieved.
You stepped forward, spread your arms, and looked up at the sky. Tom chuckled from behind. You turned around and frowned.
"You laugh a lot."
"Laughing is a good thing, Y/n"
"Yes, but laughing at funny things."
He came closer to you. He wanted to leave as soon as possible. He held your hand. You gasped, you swallowed. He pulled you aside.
"Hey, wait, where are we going?"
"Be patient, madam."
You giggled. You followed him. He hadn't let go of your hand. His hand was incredibly warm. He liked it. Actually, I didn't care about anything.
He brought you to the park. To the place with the swings. You smiled.
"I'm not a child, Tom."
He put you on the swing. He started swinging you. You burst into laughter. Everything felt right at that moment.
"Adults need to have fun too, madam."
You both burst into laughter. He kept shaking you. Fast.
"Stop, I'm getting dizzy, stop, okay."
Tom giggled. He stopped you, you got up and sat on a bench. He came and sat next to you. You laughed as you looked at each other. He came closer to you. His eyes were sea blue. It felt like you were drowning in them.
"Can I ask something?"
"Of course."
"You said you're an actor. You didn't give your last name. I'm curious about the TV series you've been in."
Laughter escaped his lips, then stopped. His gaze was fixed on you. You felt humiliated.
"I know I've made a fool of myself."
"No, no, don't worry. My last name is Sturridge."
It stumbled over its words. It was a difficult word. You could barely pronounce it. He couldn't help but giggle; it was funny. You didn't react much to it. You didn't get angry, you didn't roll your eyes. On the contrary, you laughed.
You drew closer while laughing. You fell silent; your lips were so close.
"You're different, Y/n. Of all the women I've seen."
You said nothing. You moved even closer. Finally... a sweet, quick kiss. For the first time in your life, you were kissing someone on the lips. A real kiss.
End of Chapter 5
A Wrong Digit (Pt 4)
Main characters: Tom Sturridge, Reader
You hadn't understood anything they said. He spoke in riddles. A playful smile appeared on your lips. You took a sip of your drink and looked at him.
"You speak in riddles."
He shook his head slightly, mockingly. He grinned. He parted his lips slightly.
"Never mind, sometimes I just talk nonsense."
He rolled his eyes. You didn't believe he was talking nonsense. It didn't seem that way at all. Especially for a 40-year-old man. You smiled slightly. As you took a sip of your drink, your eyes drifted to his lips. You couldn't help yourself. Why did this man look so familiar? You'd never seen him before, you didn't know him.
You continued talking without noticing the time. Your gaze was constantly on his lips. The curve of her cheeks, his face, everything was wonderful. Tom noticed you were looking at his lips. He broke the silence between you by initiating a conversation.
"Are you studying or working?"
"I am a student. At Oxford University."
Tom was surprised. His mouth dropped open in shock. He wasn't expecting it. The women or girls he met were always unemployed, idle, and had their eyes on money. They were after other people's money.
"Wow! I wasn't expecting that. You give off the vibe of a lazy girl who's always at home."
He fell silent when you gave him another stern look. He continued listening to you. Every now and then he would take a sip of his drink.
"I met my ex-boyfriend at university too. We ended up in the same faculty."
Tom's jaw tightened when you mentioned your ex-boyfriend. You noticed this but you didn't say anything.
"I broke his heart. I think he's cheating on me..."
You took a deep breath. Your gaze fell on the patterns on the table. You looked at the patterns as if you were remembering that moment.
"A girl like you deserves everything."
You stared at him in astonishment. You gasped. Was that a compliment? Tom cursed to himself. He had already begun whispering to himself.
Damn it! What am I saying? Get a grip, Tom. She's just a girl.
Simple.
Ordinary.
"Do you live alone?"
Tom opened his eyes in surprise. He hadn't expected this question. What was this girl's intention? Was she also greedy for money? Or perhaps self-serving, he thought.
He parted his lips, ready to answer.
"Usually yes. I used to live with my fiancé. We were happy. But then she moved into her own house. My friends come over sometimes. We have parties. My daughter comes twice a week. Her mother drops her off."
He paused. He took a breath and continued.
"Her mother and I are like friends. We only meet up for Elena's sake. Even though Elena is only 11 years old, she understands everything. He understood. Her mother and I separated; we didn't get along. Her work, my work... it just didn't work out."
You were listening carefully to everything. A life story. Adventurous. Love, separation, children, loneliness.
"I think I've talked too much."
You nodded your head.
"Oh no, no. It was nice listening to your life story. Complex but understandable."
You both laughed. Not a normal smile. Laughter. You were laughing genuinely for the first time. You looked at the clock. It was late. You were completely engrossed in the conversation. You hadn't even noticed the time.
"Oh, I think I have to go. It's getting late."
"Okay. The conversation was enjoyable. Would you like me to accompany you to a taxi?"
"No, no. I'll go myself. Thank you."
You had been doing everything yourself since you were 16. You didn't need anyone's help. You got in a taxi and headed home. A smile appeared on your lips.
Tom started walking home. He kept thinking about the girl who always attracted him. This time he couldn't resist. He inserted the keys into the lock and turned them. He entered the house.
For someone living alone, of course the house was messy. Everything was everywhere. He sat down on the sofa and spread his legs apart. He picked up the drink from the coffee table and downed it in one gulp, without pouring it into a glass.
When he closed his eyes, your smile's image came to mind. He picked up the phone and dialed your number. His finger went to the call button, but he didn't. He didn't want to bother you. He didn't want you to think he was a pervert.
He logged out of your number and put the phone aside. His eyes were fixed on the ceiling. The yellow light from the window illuminated the room slightly, shining on his face. As usual, he lit his cigarette. He took a drag.
A girl living alone, studying at Oxford, with brown eyes and long, bushy hair. He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard the notification sound on his phone.
"Tom, there's a party tomorrow night, are you coming?"
He sighed. It was his friend who wouldn't leave him alone. The friend who was trying to set him up with girls. He didn't write anything. He put the phone aside. He extinguished his cigarette. He leaned over and stared at the ceiling.
Instead of turning on the lights when you got home, you lay down on the bed in your clothes. You stared at the ceiling and laughed. You picked up the phone and clicked on the number that said Tom.
Without fear.
Without hesitation.
"Thank you for tonight."
Nothing, just a red heart under the message. Your heart started beating faster. You turned off the phone and lay down. You stared at the ceiling again. You laughed. You shook your head. A whisper escaped from between your lips.
"Idiot!"
—
Tom slowly opened his eyes when that cursed alarm clock rang every morning. He turned it off and looked at the clock. He got up looking bored. He made some coffee and drank it.
He was going to do his usual routine.
• Get up
• Coffee
• Go to the film set.
• Meet your friend at the party tonight.
• Come home and sleep
Simple.
Without bothering to comb his hair, he quickly put on just a T-shirt and pants and left the house. He was running late.
—
You got up. You got ready. You had tea and headed to Oxford University. Boring, simple classes. Your ex-boyfriend hadn't come. You didn't care. You kept thinking about him during the lesson. Boyfriend? No, Tom.
For some reason, you wanted to learn more about him. As if you were in a relationship. Of course you weren't. It was impossible. He was older than you. That wasn't really the problem. You simply didn't trust anyone.
You left university. You met up with your friend for coffee. A smile was on your face. You were giving too much away.
"You're smiling."
You snapped out of your thoughts and looked at Mia.
"Hmm? What?"
She giggled as she sipped her coffee. She slowly placed the cup on the table.
"Tell me about it. Who are you thinking of?"
You shook your head. Of course you would deny it.
"None..."
"Y/N!"
You sighed.
"Okay, fine."
Mia laughed. She began to listen to you carefully.
"I wanted to text my ex. I typed the last digit of his number wrong. Someone else answered. We talked. We met up."
"Wait a minute, did you text your ex? Y/N! Anyway. My girl, this is so romantic, very romantic. I wish happiness."
Mia giggled. You gave her a stern look, and her smile faded.
"Okay, fine. What did you talk about? How old is he and what does he do?"
"Um... well... He's 40 years old."
You bit your lip. You looked away.
"Wow....Don't you think he's a little old?"
"Yes... But he looks young. He's an actor."
She smiled.
"Beautiful.... The actors are handsome... What's his name?"
"Tom. I don't know his last name. He didn't tell me"
"Or were you going to investigate?"
You sighed. You glared angrily and snapped at your friend.
"MİA!"
She was scared, but she kept giggling.
"I'm just trying to gather more information about my brother-in-law, Y/N."
"Don't talk nonsense."
"I'm not talking nonsense. Your eyes are sparkling with joy. I've never seen you like this before. You liked him, didn't you?"
You didn't say anything. You just stood there, frozen.
Did you love him?
