General headcanons:

His name is Boris

He’s an older guy, maybe late 50s early 60s, but still young enough to go out and hunt.

He used to be taller, but in his older years he’s gotten more hunched over, making him around 5’5. He used to be closer to 5’8 or 5’9 though.

He’s a straight man, I don’t even think he’s knowingly met a gay man in his life (in my fic he does lmao but anyway).

I can see him having a dog out in his cabin with him, the only companion he says he has (minus his kids). He treats his hound like family and takes him out hunting with him.

I think he’s the kind of stubborn old man who accepts help from no one. Even if it’s another hunter offering to help him drag a deer back to his cabin, he’d refuse.

He’s afraid of thunder storms and always has been. He’s seen the destruction they can cause, maybe he witnessed something traumatic to make him fear them as a child.

Pre-cataclysm:

He used to have a wife and their marriage ended in divorce. I think he likes being alone because he might have some resentment towards her. Their relationship falling apart could have been either of their faults, but I like to believe they were both extremely stubborn and their personalities just clashed too much.

He also has grown children who come visit him at times. Maybe two girls and a boy. They love him and he loves them but he also secretly favors his son more than his daughters because they hunt together. He’d never tell them that and he refuses to believe it himself, but it’s kind of obvious.

I think the cabin he lives at used to be his family camp, but after the divorce he just lives there permanently. He always secretly preferred to be out there anyway though.

I think he sells the meat he gets from hunting to local butchers, but overall he doesn’t have a job. He likes being self-sustaining.

Post-cataclysm:

He’s lowkey pissed his kids would rather bunker down together closer to their mother than out in the woods with him. He finds it incredibly stupid and stubbornly refuses to talk to them on the phone other than to see if they’re still okay.

When he saw the pale man (pre pale man) at his cabin he was incredibly cautious of him. Mostly because he wasn’t dressed to be out in the woods and looked panicked over what looked like nothing to him. Of course, we know what happened after that.

That caused him to see visitors as something that needs to be taken care of before they hurt other people and turn them into more visitors.

After he lost his gun, he left to go search for another one. Otherwise, he would have hunkered down at his cabin the entire cataclysm.
